Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island
Chapter 32 I want to take the "sea" with me.
The two of them squatted and stood on the beach, and inexplicably started skipping stones.
After skipping three stones in a row, Choi Jin-ri finally stopped.
Seeing her stop, Li Ran reluctantly withdrew her hand.
She clapped her hands, straightened up, and looked out at the sea for a while.
"I rarely look at the sea that seriously. And I rarely look at the sea simply for the sake of looking at the sea."
Li Ran turned to look at her, "Why?"
"I don't have much free time. Most of the time I just glance at the sea during breaks from work. I rarely actually go to see the sea."
"So what do you think the sea is like now?" Li Ran asked.
She didn't answer immediately, her eyes still fixed on the sea.
"My first impression was how big it was." She looked at the sea, "and as I looked at it, my mind went blank."
"Isn't this great?"
She turned her head, glanced at him, and nodded. "It really is quite nice. Very relaxing."
The wind picked up again, stirring up some sand, and both of them tilted their heads slightly.
Choi Jin-ri pulled her mask up again to block the sand.
She moved closer to the sea, letting the waves crash against the soles of her shoes. As the waves receded, the sand sank in, making her feet a little unsteady. She instinctively took a step to the side.
"Be careful." Li Ran moved her hand, instinctively wanting to help.
"It's okay." She steadied herself and looked down at the wet toes of her shoes.
The shoes were soaked and the color had darkened.
She didn't back away; she just stood there, waiting for the next wave to come.
Li Ran took half a step back.
There wasn't much other person on the beach; occasionally someone would walk their dog in the distance, but they would quickly walk away.
The sound of the waves drowned out everything else; nothing else could be heard clearly except for this vast sea.
Choi Jin-ri stood on the beach for a while, but didn't count how long it was.
When she turned around, Li Ran was squatting on the beach, casually drawing something in the sand with her finger.
She leaned over and took a look.
It's a fish, but it's drawn crookedly, and the tail and body are out of proportion.
"Did you draw this?"
"Hmm." He didn't look up, and made a few more bubbles next to the fish. "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." She squatted down, took a thin wooden stick from his hand, and drew a few lines in the blank space.
It's a cat with a round head, pointed ears, and no fur.
Li Ran glanced at it, "Brin?"
"Mm." She nodded.
"You really like it."
"Of course!"
Li Ran looked down and drew a fish that was twice the size of "Brin" next to it.
"Then I'll feed Brin a fish."
"You can't eat this fish, you pudding. Don't end up eating it yourself."
"Why don't you just come and eat with us, Xiao Hei?"
Li Ran added a few more lines to the sand.
Choi Jin-ri blinked and stared at the drawing on the beach.
Neither of them moved much, just squatted there and watched for a while.
The waves rushed over and washed away a corner of the painting on the sand.
Then another batch came, and it was all gone.
Choi Jin-ri stood up, clapped her hands, and brushed the sand off.
"How about we take a picture?" she suddenly said.
"Hmm?" Li Ran was slightly taken aback.
"This way, we can consider it as bringing 'the sea' back with us," Choi Jin-ri explained.
"Okay." He nodded, took out his phone, and pointed it at her.
first slide:
Choi Jin-ri squatted on the ground, hugging her knees with both hands, and looked at the camera.
the second one:
She stood up, turned to the side, and looked back at the camera.
Third one:
She held her head with one hand and looked to the side.
……
"Tsk." Li Ran looked at the photos on her phone.
"How is it?" Choi Jin-ri leaned closer and looked at the photo.
"Don't you think you're being too professional?" he said, tapping the screen.
She blinked.
"These photos are beautiful, but they don't feel very real."
"Does it feel like everyday life?" she repeated softly.
She took out her phone and stared at herself in the image.
After a while, Choi Jin-ri looked at Lee Ran, a slight smile playing on her lips.
suddenly!
She leaned closer to Li Ran and took a selfie.
"Click~"
In the video, Choi Jin-ri pulls her mask down to her chin, her lips curving upwards in a smile.
The wisps of hair on her forehead were blown by the wind and stuck to her temples, with a few strands falling around her cheeks. Her right shoulder and Li Ran's left shoulder were pressed tightly together.
Li Ran is on the right side of the frame, with most of her body in the shot and her face turned towards the camera.
He was completely stunned. He seemed not to have expected Choi Jin-ri to get so close.
The background is a blurred sea surface, with layers of waves edged with white, and at the bottom of the image, a small patch of dark yellow sand wet by the tide is visible.
Li Ran glanced at Choi Jin-ri, who was looking down at the photo next to her.
"Uh..." He opened his mouth, wanting to say something but not knowing what to say.
"What's wrong?" She looked up at Li Ran, a smile in her eyes.
"It's nothing." He shook his head gently.
She picked up her phone and waved it. "You mean this photo?"
"Didn't you say you wanted a sense of everyday life? Wasn't this picture lifelike enough?"
Li Ran licked her dry lips. "Uh..."
Before he could even speak, Choi Jin-ri immediately nodded. "Ah! I understand, you feel it's not enough!"
As she spoke, she leaned closer to Li Ran again and took several more pictures.
"Click-clack...click-clack...click-clack..."
Li Ran felt the fragrance wafting towards her from so close by.
As the shutter clicked repeatedly, he gradually relaxed from his initial stiffness.
He glanced down at Choi Jin-ri beside him, his eyes carrying a peculiar meaning.
The clicking of the camera shutter finally stopped.
Choi Jin-ri squatted back on the beach, holding her phone.
She flipped through the photos, her wisps of hair falling down her forehead in the wind, obscuring half of her eye.
She casually smoothed it out, occasionally pursing her lips and letting out a smile.
Li Ran also squatted down and tilted her head slightly to look.
On screen, he initially had his shoulders taut and his eyes wide with surprise, but later he gradually relaxed his shoulders and back.
There's a photo of him with his eyes fogged up by the wind, squinting at the camera.
Choi Jin-ri next to her smiled with her eyes crinkling, the two of them shoulder to shoulder, their shadows overlapping on the beach.
"This photo is blurry." Li Ran pointed to the squinting photo.
Choi Jin-ri tilted her head and looked at him. "It's better if it's blurry. Blurry makes it less photogenic and more lifelike, doesn't it?"
Ever since Lee Ran mentioned "the feel of everyday life," Choi Jin-ri has been describing her photos with Lee Ran in that way.
It's like Li Ran is the life of Choi Jin-ri.
Ok?
He was startled by his own thoughts.
He glanced at the smiling Choi Jin-ri in front of him and pursed his lips.
"Why did you suddenly want to take a group photo?" Li Ran touched her nose and asked casually.
"Because I want to take this 'sea' in front of me back with me!"
"Um?"
"If I want to take the 'sea' with me, I naturally want to record everything around me as well."
"Is that so?" Li Ran pursed her lips.
"Of course, there's also the factor of wanting to take a photo with you," she suddenly said.
"We're friends, but we didn't even have a single photo together before this!"
"How can this be allowed?"
Li Ran blinked and looked at her.
