Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island

Chapter 5 Mosquito: You're so high and mighty...

The two of them peeled peanuts together and soon filled a whole vegetable basket.

And before they knew it, darkness had fallen.

In March, the courtyard of the guesthouse wasn't teeming with mosquitoes, but they weren't entirely absent either. Especially when the lights were on, these little creatures, attracted to light, would start bumping into people.

Li Ran rubbed her wrists and glanced at them.

"I used to envy the relaxed rural life. But now that I'm actually here, I can't stand the mosquitoes alone."

Sometimes he wondered if his cheat ability could calm and relax the creatures around him.

Why doesn't it work on them?

Because mosquitoes shouldn't even exist in the biosphere?

Choi Jin-ri's lips curled up slightly when she heard his complaint.

"Didn't you say you wanted to change your lifestyle? What's wrong? You've discovered the new life isn't perfect either, and you're regretting it?"

After the kitchen incident and their subsequent casual conversation, the two of them gradually became much more familiar with each other.

Choi Jin-ri herself couldn't explain why. Even though they had only met a few times, she inexplicably became familiar with him.

Perhaps it's because he gives people a sense of reassurance?

This has always been her obsession.

Li Ran pouted, "Regret is out of the question. Changing my lifestyle doesn't mean I can accept all the problems of a new life!"

He shrugged. "It's unlikely, but who wouldn't want everything to be perfect?"

"If life is destined to be a mix of bitterness and sweetness, I'd rather swallow the 'sugar coating' first. As for the 'bombs'? I'll deal with them when they explode."

He suddenly turned to Choi Jin-ri and asked, "If a lunchbox contains food you like, food you don't like, and food you neither like nor dislike, which one would you eat first?"

"Hmm?" She was slightly taken aback, not expecting him to ask such a question.

"I'll eat my favorite first," she thought for a moment and answered seriously.

"Me too." Li Ran raised an eyebrow. "Looks like we're kindred spirits."

"When I was little, I watched an episode of Chibi Maruko-chan where Maruko was eating lunch when an earthquake suddenly struck."

"She hid under the table and said, 'I should have eaten the pudding first.'"

"I've remembered that sentence for a long time."

"So, since we never know whether tomorrow or an accident will come first, we should just do what makes us comfortable. There's no need to worry about anything else."

Choi Jin-ri pursed her lips. "So why do I feel like you're just spouting platitudes?"

"Really?" Li Ran smiled awkwardly.

After discovering that she was "Shirley", he wanted to see if he could offer her some advice because he didn't know what state she was in.

After all, it was a living being. Although he had previously said he didn't have any intention of "saving" it, Daozhen still wanted to try if given the chance.

Who knows if his magic touch is actually working?

However, it's difficult to strike a balance when striking up a conversation; one wrong move and it can easily turn into a lecture, which can backfire.

"By the way, have I not asked your name yet?" Choi Jin-ri asked, turning to the side without delving into the details.

"Oh, didn't I say that?" Li Ran blinked.

Under Choi Jin-ri's gaze, he smiled and said, "I don't think I actually said that."

"Then let me formally introduce myself. I am Li Ran, 25 years old, and Chinese." He extended his hand.

She pursed her lips and extended her hand as well. "Choi Jin-ri, 25 years old, from the Korean Peninsula."

Choi Jin-ri's hands were soft, not in a superficial, weak way, but warm and soft like a steamed bun.

Li Ran released her grip at the right moment to avoid looking like a pervert.

"Oh right! I remember now, there seems to be an electric mosquito swatter in the house." He patted his thigh, and then, under Choi Jin-ri's watchful gaze, he dashed into the house.

A short while later, he returned carrying an electric mosquito swatter.

"What are you going to do with this? If you find mosquitoes annoying, just go inside." Choi Jin-ri asked curiously.

"You'll find out soon enough." Li Ran smiled and turned on her phone's flashlight.

He held the electric mosquito swatter in front of his phone, the flashing light illuminating the darkness, and mosquitoes swarmed towards him one after another.

"Sizzle~"

"Sizzle~"

Accompanied by the sound, the metal mesh of the electric mosquito swatter glowed with a faint blue light in the darkness.

Li Ran stared at them, a slight smile playing on her lips.

Choi Jin-ri watched for a while, then shook her head. "What are you doing?"

"It's stress-relieving." He didn't even look up. "Don't you think it's relaxing? This voice is really stress-relieving."

Cui Zhenli: "..."

She paused for two seconds, then decisively leaned closer. "May I try it?"

Li Ran handed her the electric mosquito swatter.

Choi Jin-ri took the electric mosquito swatter and, imitating him, held it up to the phone's light. After a few seconds, a mosquito swooped down.

"Sizzle~"

Choi Jin-ri raised an eyebrow, feeling that it was indeed not bad.

Li Ran stood beside her, holding up her phone and watching her.

The light from the courtyard shone on her face, and a smile bloomed on her face as well.

The two of them stayed in the yard for a while without saying a word, focusing their attention on the electric mosquito swatter.

The night breeze carried the scent of peanut shells into the air. Every now and then, a "sizzle" sound could be heard.

After an unknown amount of time, Choi Jin-ri returned the electric mosquito swatter to him.

"It does relieve some stress." Her eyes lit up.

Li Ran took it, somewhat proudly, "I do have a bit of a talent for relieving stress."

Choi Jin-ri glanced down at the shelled peanuts in the vegetable basket. "I'll go put the peanuts in."

"I can do it myself." Li Ran shook her head.

"It's okay, it's just one basket. You don't think I can't even lift a small basket, do you?" She blinked.

Li Ran scratched her eyebrows and waved her hand, indicating that she could do as she pleased.

Choi Jin-ri picked up the peanuts, took a few steps towards the kitchen, then stopped and turned back to ask, "I want to eat roasted peanuts tomorrow. You know how to make them, right?"

"Of course," Li Ran shrugged. "Otherwise, why would I shell peanuts?"

She turned around and continued walking, her footsteps gradually fading into the distance behind the door.

Li Ran stayed in the yard for a while longer, then swatted the remaining mosquitoes a couple more times.

"Sizzle~"

"Sizzle~"

He turned off his phone's flashlight and looked up at the night sky.

The moon wasn't big, but there were an unusually large number of stars tonight.

……

Choi Jin-ri temporarily placed the peanuts on the table.

I was so busy getting the peanuts that I forgot to ask him where to put them. The refrigerator or the cupboard?

It's definitely not okay to put it directly on the ground; what if there are ants or mice?

"Buzz~ Buzz~"

Choi Jin-ri's cell phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket.

She glanced at the screen: "Agent".

She pursed her lips, held her phone, and quietly watched it ring incessantly.

Until it completely stopped moving.

At this moment, Li Ran walked over.

Are you hungry?

She shook her head slightly. "It's alright. It feels like it hasn't been long since that afternoon meal, so I don't usually eat late-night snacks."

"If you don't want a late-night snack, how about some light snacks? I have some left in my room, they're all from home and they're about to expire."

"Could you help me solve this?"

"Where should we put these peanuts?" Choi Jin-ri changed the subject.

"Oh, just put it on any table. I'll take that as a yes! I'm going to get the snacks, you can go sit in the living room for a bit."

Without waiting for Choi Jin-ri to speak, he went straight to the master bedroom.

She watched Li Ran's retreating figure and blinked.
