Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island
Chapter 88 Chapter Recollection
Chapter 88 Memories
When Li Ran woke up in bed, it was getting dark.
He rubbed his eyes and glanced at the time.
6:07 PM.
"Did I sleep that long?"
He sat up in bed.
Li Ran was half asleep and had forgotten what time she went to bed.
But he must have slept for at least three hours.
He glanced at his phone; there were no new message notifications.
That's true, he's not an important person.
The Earth will keep spinning even without him.
He pursed his lips and glanced at the chat window with Choi Jin-ri.
The last message was the same one I sent last time.
Look, these tomato seedlings are almost ripe!
The cherry tomatoes in the photo have already turned mostly red.
The plastic sheeting on the roof had turned somewhat white from the sun.
Sunlight filtered down and fell on the tomato leaves.
Li Ran stared at the photo for a few seconds.
Li Ran had no idea what she was busy with, as she hadn't replied to a single message.
Or is it because she doesn't want to keep her promise to come over when the tomatoes are ripe, so she simply stops replying to messages altogether?
Li Ran started having inexplicable wild thoughts.
He tossed his phone aside and reached up to run his fingers through his messy hair.
I'm a little hungry.
Sleeping for too long can actually make you feel less energetic.
He sat on the edge of the bed in a daze for a while before slowly getting out of bed.
Little Black has disappeared.
It was sleeping soundly in the corner of the bedroom, but when Li Ran woke up, it was nowhere to be found.
The living room was quiet.
Lee Ji-eun seems to still be sound asleep in her bedroom.
He looked around.
"Brin?"
No one cares about him.
"Little Black?"
"Woof!"
A response immediately came from outside the courtyard.
Li Ran walked towards the door.
Little Black was lying on the edge of the steps, its tail swishing rapidly.
As soon as it saw Li Ran come out, it immediately stood up, stuck out its tongue, and ran towards him.
Li Ran bent down and patted its head.
He caught a glimpse of Brin out of the corner of his eye.
It turned out that it had also run into the yard.
Although it had no fur, it still licked its body with its tongue.
"Why did you two suddenly run into the yard?" he muttered.
Xiao Hei circled around Li Ran's legs twice.
It crouched down and stuck out its tongue to look at him.
"Hungry?" Li Ran raised an eyebrow.
"Woof!"
"What can you do all day besides eat?"
Despite her initial disdain, Li Ran still headed towards the kitchen.
The kitchen still smelled of the food cooked at noon.
Li Ran opened the refrigerator and took a look.
Inside was half a box of pickled vegetables, a bag of lettuce, a bowl of tofu, and some pork belly.
"Just eat it as is."
He took out the pork belly.
Xiao Hei sat at the kitchen doorway, gazing at him expectantly.
"Okay, I got it. I'll feed you in a bit."
With it staring at her like that, Li Ran felt a little embarrassed to go and cook her own dishes first.
He went to the corner of the kitchen, got the dog food and cat food, and poured them into their bowls.
Xiao Hei continued to work diligently on his meal.
While Brin was still in the yard, it even turned its attention to the cat food.
"Just eat your own food, that belongs to Brin."
Li Ran washed her hands, glanced at it, and said, "If you get beaten up by Brin, I won't be responsible for you."
Whether the little black cat understood or not, it immediately moved away from the cat food.
He shook his head, not knowing why Little Black was so afraid of Brin.
Logically speaking, it should be larger and stronger than Brin, but it's just so cowardly.
Every time Brin's claws attacked, it didn't dare to fight back and would just slink away.
"Brin, dinner's ready," he called out towards the door.
Meow~
Brin strolled in slowly from outside the door, then squeezed next to Xiao Hei and lowered her head to eat cat food.
Xiao Hei's tail, which had been wagging rapidly, stopped wagging and just drooped on the ground.
Li Ran glanced at it and shook her head.
He went to heat the pot first.
The moment the pork belly hit the pan, the fat sizzled.
The aroma soon wafted out.
Xiao Hei was eating its dog food with its head down, but after smelling the aroma, it immediately raised its head and its ears stood up.
"You really do have a keen sense of smell, as expected of a dog." He glanced at Little Black.
Li Ran picked up her chopsticks and flipped the meat slices.
The oil in the pan suddenly sizzled.
"Hiss~"
Li Ran subconsciously withdrew her hand.
He looked down at the back of his hand that had been splattered with oil.
It's not very serious, just a little painful.
He shook his hand and suddenly remembered that his mother used to get splashed with oil like this when he was a child.
She would always frown and mutter a curse before continuing to cook.
Li Ran remained silent for two seconds.
As a member of the Qidian Orphanage, his memories of his parents became increasingly fewer.
I only occasionally recall it when something happens.
To be honest, he had been used to living alone since junior high school and had no relatives.
His unique experiences have shaped his personality.
He doesn't have any grand ambitions; he's content as long as he can live a slightly more comfortable life.
So when he heard that he had a great-aunt and could even inherit a bed and breakfast, he was somewhat surprised.
It's a pity I never met him in person.
"Damn it, why are you suddenly thinking about these things?"
He muttered something to himself, then looked down and turned the fire down a little.
Lately, my thoughts have been a bit jumbled up.
The little black dog next to him tilted its head, seemingly trying to understand what he was doing.
Li Ran couldn't help but laugh when she saw its silly appearance.
"What are you looking at?"
"Woof woof!"
"You're quite energetic."
Li Ran waved the spatula in front of its eyes.
Little Black immediately wagged its tail again.
"Sizzle sizzle~"
The pork belly in the pot has rendered a lot of oil.
The edges of the meat curled up slightly, and the color turned golden brown.
Li Ran casually chopped the lettuce, threw it into the pan and stir-fried it for a bit, then added some pickled vegetables.
This messy approach doesn't even look presentable.
However, he only made a simple meal to fill his stomach and didn't plan to make a full Manchu Han Imperial Feast.
Li Ran ladled out a bowl of rice, carried the plate to the living room, and then casually turned on the TV.
The sounds of television programs became his accompaniment while he ate.
Li Zhi'en didn't know if she was awake or not, so Li Ran didn't call her.
After finishing its dog food, Xiao Hei came running over happily and lay down at his feet.
It tilted its head back and stared at the meat on the table.
Forget about it, you're not eligible.
"Eek~"
"Playing the victim won't work. You've already eaten."
Li Ran picked up a piece of pork belly and stuffed it into her mouth.
It's a bit too salty.
But it's not a big problem.
As he was eating, he suddenly heard some noise from the bedroom.
The door was gently pulled open.
Lee Ji-eun walked out wearing a loose short-sleeved shirt, her hair still a little messy.
She stood at the door, squinting for a while, seemingly not fully awake yet.
"What time is it?"
"Around six o'clock."
"I slept for so long?" Her voice was a little dazed.
"Mm." Li Ran nodded. "If you sleep a little longer, you can have a midnight snack."
Lee Ji-eun slowly walked to the sofa and sat down.
