All the heavens, starting as the ruler of the universe
Chapter 23 Wasteland World
The abandoned underground parking garage entrance resembles a gaping, dark mouth that swallows all light.
Zhang Jingyuan had been lying prone on the slope at the exit, hiding his body behind half of a fallen concrete slab, for several hours.
During this time, he occasionally watched Ao Qing's live stream, but spent most of his time observing the abandoned underground parking lot.
The most important thing when picking up trash is patience. You can't be impatient, you can't be greedy, and you can't rush in whenever you see something good.
This was the lesson he learned from the three scars he had—one on his arm, one on his back, and one on his leg—that almost cost him his life.
He squinted, staring at the dark entrance. The wind blew through the ruins, carrying a gust of fine sand that stung his face, but he remained motionless.
The parking lot was very quiet, extremely quiet.
There were no footsteps, no breathing, no rustling sounds like something rummaging through trash. But quiet doesn't mean safe.
Sometimes, the most dangerous things are hidden in the quietest places.
In particular, underground parking lots with only one exit can become not only nests for mutated creatures, but also traps for fellow scavengers.
Zhang Jingyuan pressed his face against the ground, feeling the vibrations, but there was nothing there.
He glanced at the sky again; the sun was already setting, and it would be dark in a few hours.
He thought about it and decided to wait a little longer.
He touched the compressed biscuit in his pocket; it was a package he had bought from You Lingfeng last time, which he hadn't been able to bear eating.
He swallowed hard and withdrew his hand. No rush, it'll be better to eat it tomorrow morning.
When it got dark, nothing came out of the parking lot.
Zhang Jingyuan found a sheltered corner, placed the woven bag under his body, and leaned against the wall to doze off for a while. He didn't dare to fall into a deep sleep, keeping his ears perked up to listen to the sounds around him.
The wind was strong at night, making the ruins howl. Something was calling in the distance, letting out a muffled howl every now and then, as if it were coming from underground, but the parking lot remained quiet.
The next day, Zhang Jingyuan woke up at dawn. He rubbed his eyes, then lay back behind the cement slab, staring at the entrance.
There's still nothing there.
He hesitated for a moment, then took out some compressed biscuits from his pocket and ate them. He looked at the sky again; the sun was out, and the light was better than yesterday.
He decided to go in and take a look.
He hunched over, pressed himself against the wall, and moved step by step toward the entrance. The woven bag hung lightly on his shoulder, containing only half a bottle of water and a few rusty nails.
A damp, musty smell wafted from the entrance, mixed with engine oil and rotting matter. He wrinkled his nose and pulled his collar up to cover his mouth and nose.
Once inside the entrance, the light suddenly dimmed.
He stopped and waited for his eyes to adjust to the darkness before continuing to walk in.
The underground parking lot is huge, extending downwards in layers, like an upside-down building.
It was too deep and too dark down there, and there was always that sound—like something crawling deep down, rustling and whispering, but I couldn't hear it clearly.
He walked along the base of the wall, one hand holding onto the wall, the other hand probing the path ahead.
The ground was covered in debris, making a rustling sound when you stepped on it.
He tried to walk quietly, but in this quiet place, the sound was amplified several times over.
The first floor was filled with a dozen or so cars, crammed together crookedly, some with open doors, some with broken windows, and some overturned.
He inspected each car one by one, and found that all the solid hydrogen batteries in all the cars had been removed, and no other valuable parts had been left behind.
Zhang Jingyuan's heart sank.
He quickened his pace, weaving through the gaps between cars, his eyes scanning every vehicle and every corner.
That's how it is when you're scavenging; in this wasteland, returning empty-handed is always the norm.
Zhang Jingyuan didn't want to go any further. He picked up his woven bag and was about to leave when he suddenly heard footsteps coming from the entrance.
It wasn't just one person, it was several.
"What a waste to wait so long to catch such a tiny fish," a hoarse voice said, its tone impatient.
"Who knew he could be so patient, lying outside all night without coming in," another voice chimed in, younger and with a hint of ruthlessness.
"Stop talking nonsense and hurry up and find him, don't let him get away."
Zhang Jingyuan paused, lowered his body, and hid in the shadow of the abandoned car.
The footsteps grew closer, and three figures walked in from the entrance.
The one leading the group was bald with a scar on his face, and he was holding a homemade hunting rifle.
The young man following behind him gripped a machete, his eyes fierce.
The one at the very back, wrapped in a dirty military overcoat, with his hands in his pockets, looked the least noticeable.
"Third brother, use your special ability to find that person."
A superhuman!
This is troublesome.
Zhang Jingyuan had only recently transmigrated to this world, but he had already heard of the reputation of those with superpowers.
The superhumans claim to be a new kind of human in this wasteland world, possessing a variety of unique and bizarre abilities.
This superhuman, known as the third brother, is probably able to find his location.
No, we can't just sit here and wait to die; we have to take the initiative!
Zhang Jingyuan immediately redeemed the Extreme Cold series firearms that You Lingfeng had put up in the chat group. He had heard Liu Ming talk about the power of this gun, and it would definitely be more than enough to deal with these three people.
Most importantly, it's cheap.
Zhang Jingyuan clicked "buy," and a long, rectangular metal box appeared out of thin air in his arms.
He opened the box, and inside lay the pure silver-white gun, with three egg-sized rounds of ammunition beside it.
Zhang Jingyuan took a deep breath and chambered a bullet.
He only has one chance, maybe two, after all, according to Liu Ming, the recoil of this gun is extraordinary.
Therefore, he must seize the right moment, ideally when all three are standing together at the same time.
Zhang Jingyuan crouched even lower, almost touching the ground, and pushed the empty box outwards a little to ensure the three of them could spot it immediately before slowly retreating.
The man called the third brother stood still, his eyes open, staring intently at everything in the basement.
The pitch-black environment had no effect on him; he could easily see the traces left by Zhang Jingyuan after he came in.
"There." He pointed, pointing directly in the direction where Zhang Jingyuan was hiding.
"I've been discovered." Zhang Jingyuan's mind raced, and he deliberately made his voice sound panicked and scared: "Brother, I've already put the things I found in front of me. It's a silver-white box, and I haven't opened it yet. There's also food and water that I hid outside. Let me live, and I'll tell you the address."
"Boxes? What boxes?" The three of them exchanged glances. They had been to this abandoned garage several times before, but had never seen any boxes there.
"Third brother!"
The third brother nodded and looked at where Zhang Jingyuan was. Sure enough, he saw a silver-white metal box.
"Big brother, there really is a box!" The third brother was overjoyed. The box looked very valuable, not to mention what was inside.
"Bang!" The gunshot rang out.
The leader, holding a shotgun, fired a shot into the air. "Kid, don't try anything funny. I have a gun and a superhuman."
"The box is right there. I haven't opened it. You can go get it yourselves." Zhang Jingyuan was hiding at the very back. The sound of the homemade shotgun wasn't loud, but it still startled him.
"Second brother, go get it," the eldest brother ordered.
"Yes, eldest brother." The second brother sheathed his broadsword and walked step by step to the spot pointed to by the third brother.
"Big brother, we got it!" The second brother shouted excitedly as he found the box.
"Bring it back so I can see it!" The eldest brother couldn't contain his excitement either.
When the second brother took the box back, the three brothers stared intently at it. The moment the box was opened, Zhang Jingyuan stood up, gripped the gun with both hands, and pulled the trigger at the three of them.
"Holy crap—" The third brother's smile froze on his face.
