Chapter 104 Standing Together
Chapter 104 Standing Together
Lancelot rested for about three hours and then recovered his energy. Meanwhile, outside, Thunder Eagles, Valkyries, and Averus transport planes continued to land.
The Imperial Navy also began deploying mortal Astral Army troops into the fortress.
The Lamenters used almost all of their air units for resupply, and with the help of energy gels, the people of the Empire finally had enough to eat to sustain them.
Those mortals who had persevered to the limit began to rest in the fortress camp after being simply cleaned up.
The Weepers used colossal energy to gather the green-skinned corpses together and then burn them, thus keeping warm in the darkness.
A strange smell filled the air; the orcs were fungal-animal symbiotic beings created by the Old Ones, their bodies covered in symbiotic fungi.
Containing chlorophyll and covered with reproductive spores, it is essentially a giant, moving mushroom.
Actually, to be honest, this thing is edible, but given a choice, no normal person would want to eat an orc.
After all, it was a perfect war machine, and the Ancient Ones naturally took into account the possibility that the orcs' corpses might be used by the enemy after they died.
Regarding this point, it must be mentioned that the orcs' spores are extremely active. If a mortal accidentally eats uncooked spores, it's as if a part of the green skin is planted into their own body.
In mild cases, it can cause fungal tumors, pus discharge, and mutations on the skin; in severe cases, it can lead to the growth of microscopic fungal colonies inside the body, with tiny budding fungi growing inside, turning the body into a green-skinned petri dish.
The orc spores of the green orcs are extremely troublesome. They can spread freely on the ground and soon create an ecosystem suitable for the greens to live in. This is why planets that have had greens are difficult to eradicate completely.
"Senior citizens!"
"Sir, you've had a good rest!"
At this moment, the Weepers were using their super-powerful flamethrowers to sterilize and inactivate the entire camp fortress, and they excitedly greeted Lancelot upon seeing him.
Lancelot nodded to the Weeping Ones, and when the Weeping Ones' Chapter Leader, Malakin, learned that Lancelot had finished resting, he was also awakened from his brief rest and quickly came to Lancelot's side.
"Long time no see, Commander Malakin."
"It hasn't been that long! Praise be to Saint Geres! Elder Lancelot! It's only been a few months, and I never imagined we'd be able to meet again! I also never expected that the Lord of the Ultra Warriors would awaken so quickly!"
"The Wailers' Chapter Master Malakin praised it thus," Lancelot said pragmatically, shaking his head. "The Primarch's awakening is indeed a major event, but he has more important matters to attend to, and he cannot directly help with our situation."
"Although I said that killing the Greenskin warlords has temporarily plunged these Greenskins into internal strife, given the large number of Greenskin orcs in this star system, they will soon decide on a new Greenskin warlord."
"We don't have much time left. Now we need to think about how to settle these citizens of the empire."
Lancelot said this, and the commander of the Malakin warband fell silent for a moment before explaining, "Elder, I have already discussed this matter with the Imperial Navy and the governors of the surrounding planets. The populations of the nearby planetary hives are almost full—no one is willing to accept this group of Imperial citizens."
"So, my brothers in the warband and I made an arrangement on our own initiative."
"What arrangements?"
As Lancelot spoke, the Chapter Master of Malakin replied, "We have gained honor because of you, and have been granted permission by the High Lords Council to possess a homeworld for recruitment."
"The judge said he would fight for us a rich agricultural planet, but these past few days, we've fought alongside the Imperial people captured from this planet, swearing oaths to live and die with them in the dark mines. So we've decided to make Boko IV our home planet!"
At this moment, Malakin, the leader of the Weeping Warriors, pounded his chest and said this very seriously.
"We will stand with the people of the Empire! We will defend our new homeland alongside all the Imperial citizens captured here!"
Lancelot was taken aback upon hearing this. Looking at the leader of the Weeping Warriors in front of him, and at Malakin's resolute face, Lancelot knew that he was serious.
This made Lancelot fall silent for a moment.
The Empire is indeed a damn mess, but the choices made by the lamenters earn Lancelot's respect.
It is quite normal for warbands without a homeworld to be granted planets as rewards for their achievements. For example, the Crimson Fist Warband was granted a prosperous agricultural world as a fiefdom by the Highlord Council due to its long-term wandering and outstanding achievements.
Generally speaking, a world suitable as a homeworld for an Astartes Chapter must meet certain conditions: it must be a habitable world for humans, highly defensible, and capable of providing a stable source of troops.
But Boko Star IV seems to have nothing to do with any of these things. As a mineral world, it has been severely polluted, and the only thing in the world is the few million imperial subjects who have been plundered by the orcs.
The only advantage is its strong defense; bunkers and fortresses can be built everywhere—but since this place is in a star system controlled by orcs, this advantage has become a disadvantage.
Even so, the Weepers still consider this planet their home planet. They cannot abandon the people of the empire, nor the mortals who fought alongside them.
So they chose to stay and fight alongside each other for this place and for their new home.
This is a thorny path—
"But there is still hope!"
"We've reached an agreement with the Mechanicus and the Ultramarines. As long as we can control the green-skinned orcs in this area, the Mechanicus will come back and restart the mining facilities."
"Although they said they'd take 90% of the minerals, there's nothing we can do about it now. Besides, they promised to prioritize supplying us with equipment, and Boko IV can serve as a transit point for future Ultramarines expeditions. Once we can wipe out the green-skinned orcs from this world, things will get better for the people on the planet!"
"That's what the commander of the Malakin Warband said."
If you only listen to what he says, it seems that the mourners all have very high hopes.
But Lancelot knew that the entire Wailers' Legion had been reduced from the original 300-plus members.
But after this battle, they were reduced to a crippled state with only 200 or so men left.
If they truly wanted to establish themselves on this planet, relying solely on two hundred-odd Astartes was practically a pipe dream. Even if they stayed in this world for an extended period and cleared out the green-skinned orcs, the Weeping Ones would still be unable to control most of the planet.
—Unless, the mourners can expand their ranks.
With that thought in mind, Lancelot then asked the Chapter Master of Malakin, "How many gene seeds do the Weepers have left?"
