Lies don't hurt, truth is the knife.

The newly awakened lion king was very weak. Just as Lancelot had said, he was indeed old. Ten thousand years had passed. The lion stroked the whiskers on his face. His movements were slightly stiff, but then he looked at Lancelot.

"Who exactly are you?!"

His reason was awakened by the defeat in the battle. As the proud Primarch of the First Legion, he had actually lost to the being in front of him in a single confrontation. This made him taste the defeat he had experienced after the Siege of Terra once again.

The taste was so bitter that it forced the lion to use all his senses to lock onto the presence in front of him, but this suddenly made him feel the presence of his brother, and even his father, in Lancelot!

"Who are you?! Why do you possess the aura of the Primarch and the Emperor?!"

A surge of complex emotions welled up within him, and Lancelot once again removed his helmet, calmly looking at the Lion King before him. He then took out the Imperial Blood that he had casually retrieved before the Lion King awoke.

"I was once an insignificant figure on Terra, and an insignificant member of the Dark Angels. I knew of the tragedy that occurred on Caliban, but now I am called Lancelot. The Dark Angels of the outside world call beings like me Fallen Angels. So you can also call me the Lord of the Fallen Angels."

"But I don't like that title, because the warriors under my command are the most loyal warriors of the empire."

Lancelot said this to Ryan in front of him, while Ryan stared intently at the golden object in Lancelot's hand. When he felt the immense power contained within it, Ryan's pupils trembled violently.

As the eldest son of the Emperor, the Lion King, whose subconscious nature had already begun to awaken, could not possibly fail to sense that the tube of radiant gold was his father's blood.

He also knew all too well just how powerful his father was. This vial of blood contained his father's power, yet Lancelot was able to hold it in his hand—meaning he was actually recognized by his father?!

"Alright, Lancelot! Now that you know, you also know why I'm so angry!"

The lion roared, "The truth is, we returned to Caliban from Terra only to find the entire galaxy against us! You opened fire on us without warning! Luther has long been bewitched by demons! What excuse do you have left for that?!"

"Trying to deny it, Ryan? You still won't admit it even now, were you blinded by rage back then?"

Lancelot whispered softly, "Don't you know what the situation was like for Caliban back then? All the ships were moved away, and all the Dark Angels and recruits were trapped on the planet, receiving news from the outside world in a daze."

"From the language of the stars, one moment I heard that the Emperor had launched a great purge to wipe all the Space Marines out of the galaxy, the next I heard that Horus had raised an army to rebel against the Emperor's rule, and then I heard that Horus was a traitor, and that all the Primarchs were traitors to humanity."

"Half of the Dark Angels are trapped in Caliban. Most of the Dark Angels are completely unaware of what is happening outside. The recruits have not received any orders to fire on your fleet. They just watch as their brothers launch an attack in a fit of rage."

Lancelot sighed, looking at the Primarch before him: "Lane, your arrogance and rage ultimately destroyed half of the Dark Angels army."

"You didn't see that Luther was corrupted. After the Great Rebellion ended, you were like a powder keg. When faced with the attack from Caliban, you were ignited, attempting to kill the other innocent loyalists on the planet along with the traitors."

A bitter feeling was brewing within him. Ryan wanted to speak up and refute, but the words were swallowed back in his throat. He used all his senses but could not sense any lies or deception from Lancelot. His words were flat—like a new king evaluating the actions of the old king.

Ryan began to realize painfully that he wasn't the kind of person who was very good at judging people.

He was indeed overconfident; in Tiamat, he handed the general's cannons to Perturabo, mistakenly believing that his brother would use them to quell the newly broken Horus rebellion.

However, these weapons brought misfortune to the Raven Guards and Salamander Legion of Istvan V.

Political tactics such as judging people are not his forte.

Ryan is a hunter, and he and the First Legion are always outward-facing. They are on the edge of the galaxy, the human hunters in the stars.

In the time of Ancient Terra, hunters were able to venture deep into the darkness and fight those abominable and terrifying beasts.

But once they return, even the most skilled hunters will relax, because their duty is not to scavenge for hidden dangers among their own brethren.

As a series of failures gnawed at him, Ryan Aljonson was forced to begin to understand his limitations.

If he, as the Primarch, cannot foresee the thoughts and actions of his own legion, how can one expect him to see the worms wriggling in the heart of one of the greatest diplomats and military strategists in human history?

Arrogance is the enemy of civilization.

The Lion King closed his eyes in pain.

How much grief and bloodshed could have been avoided if the Dark Angel had been able to trust Guilliman from the moment he reached Macragge through the warp storms?

Instead, they all kept their secrets, leading to disastrous consequences.

Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, if either Guilliman or Ryan could return to Terra sooner, the rebellion could be won by the Empire. But what has already happened cannot be reversed, and the combined scheme of the Four Gods will not make the possibility of reinforcements a reality.

All the survivors had no choice but to accept it, because that was the best option left to humanity by the grinning gods in this cruel universe and the warp.

Ryan has also stepped into the script that was originally meant for him.

But he should have awakened later—after the galaxy was split in two and one half of the empire fell into darkness—but now, Lancelot has already surpassed his destiny.

"We still have a chance. Humanity still has a chance."

"I can swear an oath before you."

Lancelot drew the Undying Lakelight from the ground, using the blade to cover half his face, his expression devoid of joy or sorrow as he looked at Ryan before him: "I can swear that my legion and I love humanity, that we will fight for those we cherish, and give our lives for those we love, but I also swear that loyal fallen angels will remember the hatred of the past, but we will only be enemies, not adversaries."

"But all of this also depends on your attitude."

"You must swear that you will still fight for humanity and for the Emperor."

"You must repent. You raised your arms against your brothers because you felt betrayed. From now on, you must repent for the recruits you killed."

"When you return to the Dark Angels, you must stop their persecution of the loyal Fallen Angels."

"If you can do it, I am willing to fight alongside you. Until the enemies of humanity are completely wiped out, the fallen angels will fight side by side with the dark angels —"

"otherwise----"

Lancelot murmured softly, but then his eyes turned as cold as a lake in March as he looked at Ryan in front of him.

He gripped the longsword in his hand tightly, his pupils slightly lowered. With a hum, flames burst forth from the entire sword, and the runes on it seemed to change slightly, transforming completely into Ryan's true name in the subspace before him.

"I will kill you here with my own hands in the name of Lancelot."
