Chapter 42 The Unforgivables
"Which ship should we send?" Ezekiel asked.
"The Truth Seeker"
Azrael answered without hesitation. "That ship has been tracking the fallen angels for six thousand years. They will know what to do."
Ezekiel nodded slightly. The Truth Seeker was a Huntsman-class cruiser with no chapter markings on its hull, and its existence was not even recorded in any official Imperial records.
This ship has a mission—to hunt down fallen angels in the farthest corners of the empire, no matter how long it takes or what the cost.
“And also,” Azrael added, “do not disturb the Blood Angels. Dante is a commander whom even I respect, and his wisdom and intuition are sharper than any psychic divination. If our people get too close, he will sense it.”
"What worries me is that Dante might be connected to our goals."
Ezekiel said.
"Then let's nip it in the bud before he discovers it, and authorize the use of all means without harming the Holy Blood Angel!"
Azrael said almost without hesitation that no one understood the weight of those words better than Ezekiel, because for the Dark Angels, among the phrase "all means," even an extermination order that could completely destroy a planet was only a mediocre choice!
These Unforgivables are truly capable of destroying an entire planet of the Empire for the sake of a single Fallen Angel! If the Blood Angels hadn't sent Chapter Master Dante this time, Azrael would have even authorized the Unforgivables to open fire on friendly forces and eliminate anyone who might know the truth!
"Never underestimate Dante."
Azrael turned around and stared once more at the shimmering shadowy area on the holographic star map.
"That legendary man spent his entire life fighting enemies far more powerful than himself, yet he survived each one unscathed over a thousand years. If he were to find us, he would ask questions. And some of those questions, we cannot answer."
Silence descended once more.
Ezekiel finally nodded, turned and left the command center.
His footsteps echoed through the corridors, gradually fading into the distance, and finally disappearing silently into the labyrinth of countless corridors and secret chambers deep within the megalithic fortress.
A message from the stars also followed from the Stone Fortress.
The Truth Seeker began preparations for departure.
The ship's external armor was painted dark green, but it had no chapter insignia or markings.
The servants were busy on the bridge and in the corridors, while the Ravenwing and Deathwing monks had already gathered at the boarding gate, clad in power armor, silently awaiting orders.
Among these monks, one figure stood out.
He wore a dark black power armor, with a string of rosary beads hanging from his chest and a heavy, chained tome on his belt.
His helmet was designed as a massive skull, with eerie green light emanating from its eye sockets. This master interrogator had just completed a mission on the other side of the galaxy, interrogating an Imperial officer suspected of having an affair with a fallen angel. On the twelfth day of the interrogation, the officer finally confessed to having seen the fallen angel and provided valuable clues.
But at this moment, all his attention was focused on this new task.
Fallen angel.
He repeated the word in a low, almost roaring voice that echoed through the dock.
"Ten thousand years. For ten thousand years we have hunted them in the darkness, searched for them in every shadow. And now, they may be at the edge of the extreme star field."
"Dante, the chapter master of the Blood Angels, personally went to that marked location," said one of the Unforgivable Ones. "If there really are fallen angels there, then the Blood Angels may have been drawn into a war that is not theirs."
"The Blood Angels are unimportant." The Inquisitor's voice was devoid of emotion. "The Fallen Angels are what matter. If necessary, I will not hesitate to confront Dante."
An unforgivable man glanced at him but said nothing.
He knew his fellow warrior was serious, and he also knew the potential consequences of confronting a fledgling chapter leader.
But as he said, fallen angels are the only thing that matters.
The Dark Angels and their minions have sacrificed themselves for this for ten thousand years.
It wouldn't matter if I had to sacrifice myself again.
……
At this moment, Lancelot was unaware of the Dark Angels' high efficiency in capturing fallen angels. Even though he had entrusted the Wailers Chapter's intelligence to erase the memories of Krieg's dead soldiers, the Unforgivables still managed to detect something amiss.
Fortunately, Lancelot was still sailing into the starry sea aboard the flagship of the Weepers... The influence of the Inviolable Domain left the Dark Angels with only a vague direction, but they still searched in that direction.
Lancelot was unaware of this.
Now, a week has passed since Lancelot's speech in the monastery.
Everyone in the Lamenters Chapter knew that Lancelot was a remarkable elder, so whenever Lancelot walked on a ship, the Lamenters would seize the opportunity to ask him about the Primarch's or his own great achievements.
Lancelot readily accepted.
The journey through space can be a bit tedious, but chatting with the mourners is just like joking around in a group chat with friends. It can also trigger some old memories, making you wonder if there are any secrets you've overlooked.
After he took out the feather containing the power of Saint Geres, the Weepers were completely intimidated by him and turned into his little fans. They were just short of patting his shoulders and feet at any time. Lancelot could brag without any worries!
He punched the champion Khorne, kicked the great demon Nurgle, outwitted and outmaneuvered the wicked wizard, interrogated Slaanesh's chosen one, and single-handedly liberated an entire forging planet...
Lancelot rattled off these achievements effortlessly, and in his eyes, they were utterly insignificant. After all, a certain brute in the game had already accomplished them! He had played through the entire game himself, which was tantamount to him doing it once before!
But these words startled the weeping man, and his admiration for Lancelot grew even deeper. Taking advantage of this opportunity to boast and slack off, Lancelot actually found another secret in his mind that he could record.
