Chapter 2 Devil, You Are the Devil

That night, Matthew put on his dark green air force jacket and left home, heading towards a remote area in the southwest of the town, near the mountains.

The mountain area is densely wooded and has a river nearby.

In this remote area, few people come. He walked for a long time and came to the deserted small dock. There was a wooden house on the dock, and judging from its old age, it had a long history.

Shortly after he entered the cabin, several cars stopped not far away, and a dozen or so men with sharp features got out. The leader gave the others a look, and then everyone drew their guns and went inside.

But to everyone's surprise, Matthew was standing there in the empty wooden house, seemingly unsurprised by their arrival.

He's 180cm tall, very tall.

They all acknowledged that the kid was good-looking, but that was all.

They surrounded Matthew. The man in the lead had a tattoo of some kind of pattern on his neck, a full beard, and a fierce look in his eyes as he focused on Matthew. He raised his gun and pointed it at Matthew's forehead.

"Boy, hand over what that old bastard is hiding."

"Did you kill Daniel?"

Matthew was calm, or rather, beneath that calm, a raging fire was brewing.

The man frowned and said impatiently, "You brat, you talk too much nonsense."

After saying that, he prepared to pull the trigger, intending to cripple Matthew's hands.

Seeing this, Matthew let out a soft breath.

"As expected, not everyone is that stupid."

hum! ! !

As soon as he finished speaking, a dazzling golden light shone, and he transformed into a brilliant golden ray, rushing towards a person on the left. At this moment, time seemed to slow down dozens of times in his eyes. He rushed in front of this person and kicked him, breaking his neck.

Then, in an instant, the golden figure transformed into a beam of light and weaved through the crowd.

Almost instantly, accompanied by booming sounds and screams, they were either kicked away, crashing through the wooden house wall and falling into the distant lake, or they crashed into a tree and died on the spot.

Only a limited number of people survived because they were deliberately spared.

Then, the countless points of light converged into a human figure standing in the original position. The man's pupils widened slightly, and his fierce aura faltered. He pointed the muzzle of his pistol at Matthew's forehead, but his hand trembled involuntarily.

What just happened?

In less than a second, the dozen or so men he brought were either dead or injured in ways beyond his comprehension. The not-so-large wooden house was riddled with holes, and gusts of cold wind blew in, making him shiver involuntarily.

"You, you, you're a mutant?"

The man's voice trembled, and his face showed horror.

This extraordinary power, beyond human comprehension, can only be achieved by mutants.

Matthew didn't answer directly. He faced the gun pointed at his forehead, his gaze cold and stern: "Who's behind you? What are you looking for? Why did Daniel die?"

"I...I can't..."

The man's lips trembled, as if he were struggling with fear, but the next moment he suddenly pulled the trigger.

Bang!Bang!Bang!

Flames erupted from the muzzle, and the bullet hurtled straight toward Matthew's forehead. But then, something even more horrifying and chilling happened.

The bullet actually pierced through Matthew's forehead, causing a ring of golden light to appear on his forehead. The bullet seemed to have hit an invisible light barrier, passing right through it and striking the wooden wall behind him.

"This is impossible, this is impossible."

The man's eyes widened, filled with undisguised fear. He trembled and took a few steps back, but Matthew moved forward, approaching the man who was already utterly terrified.

Fear and despair overwhelmed him, turning him into madness. He kept shouting "Impossible!" and his finger kept pulling the trigger.

However, even with the gun pointed at him, Matthew continued to walk at a leisurely pace, letting the bullet pierce his forehead.

This scene, which defied common sense, completely shattered the man's heart. Especially after he had emptied his gun, he retreated in despair and finally collapsed to the ground, the pistol slipping from his hand and falling to the ground beside him.

"You devil, you're a devil!!"

The man looked at Matthew, who walked up to him, with despair. Matthew's handsome face seemed to him like that of a devil, with an evil smile.

hum! !

Matthew stood at the man's feet, his tall figure looking down at him. He pointed his finger at the man's head, the tip of his finger radiating a golden cross of light, the immense energy it contained almost bursting forth.

"This is your last chance. Don't even think about lying. You're not the only one still alive here."

The voice, as sharp as a cold wind, pierced the man's eardrums, sending a chill down his spine. Looking into Matthew's indifferent eyes, he knew the boy wasn't putting on an act.

"I, I'm telling you, the person behind me, Kleiner, is a director at Kleiner Industries. On the surface, he runs a legitimate business, but secretly he's involved in smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, arms dealing, and so on."

"A month and a half ago, Sheriff Daniel uncovered a human trafficking operation and followed the lead to Kleiner Industries. He secretly investigated and found a lot of evidence and clues. Although Sheriff Daniel was investigating in secret, Kleiner somehow found out about it."

"A trap was set a month ago, and Sheriff Daniel just..."

The man's voice trembled as he blurted out everything he knew, pausing at the end.

He glanced at Matthew cautiously, only to find that the other man remained expressionless.

He suppressed his fear, swallowed hard, and continued, "Although Sheriff Daniel is dead, we haven't found the document he compiled. We've been searching for it, and as Sheriff Daniel's adopted son, you're the most likely person to know its whereabouts."

"We searched your home, but we didn't find the document. So Kleiner had us monitor you, hoping to find it through you."

Matthew remained silent for a few seconds. Under the latter's uneasy gaze, the golden light of the cross emanating from his fingertips dimmed, and he lowered his hand.

"Why not just arrest me instead of monitoring me?"

"Because there is pressure from the police department. Although Kleiner Industries is involved with the police department, there are still some people who have not been completely bribed. Sheriff Daniel himself has been in the town for more than ten years and has a lot of influence. His death has made many people in the police department suspicious. If you are arrested or even killed, no matter how powerful they are, they may not be able to cover it up."

"Who within the police department has been bribed?"

"I don't know, it's confidential, he didn't tell me."

The man shook his head.

"Where does Kleiner live?" Matthew didn't dwell on that question and instead asked about Kleiner's address.

"At Kleiner Estate."

Matthew nodded, then suddenly said, "You were one of the people who killed Daniel when he was ambushed, weren't you?"

The man's eyes widened suddenly, and he blurted out in horror, "No..."
