Chapter 114 Iron-backed Rhinoceros
As soon as Alduin stepped onto the training field, Grom spotted him immediately and blew his long whistle.
As the whistle blew, he shouted, "Watch out! The boss's coming!"
The orcs who were training all stopped what they were doing, put down their weapons and stone weights, and quickly gathered together, forming a neat square formation.
Everyone was drenched in sweat, their bodies tense, and they stood quietly in the room.
Grom strode through the crowd, stood up in front of Alduin, and stood still.
He raised his right fist and pounded it heavily on his left chest, making a dull thud, as he formally bowed in greeting, a gesture reserved for orcs.
"Boss, everything is normal in the orc camp. The brothers are training every day, their physical fitness has increased by 20%, and their combat power has increased by at least 30%."
Alduin nodded slightly, his gaze sweeping over the orc formation in front of him.
His gaze suddenly froze as he saw several orcs covered in large patches of green ointment, the strong smell of herbs wafting over him, pungent and irritating to the eyes.
Grom followed his gaze, grinned, and began to explain:
"It's a shaman's ointment, made from the glacial moss you brought back from the North and the bones of those cold lions. When applied to wounds, it heals three times faster than traditional herbs. It feels cool and refreshing on the skin, and it's especially comfortable."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Grom eagerly took out a bowl of green, paste-like substance, handed it to Alduin, and respectfully said:
"My lord, there's still some ointment left. Would you like to try it? It's good for your joints. You've been flying for so long; you must have some hidden injuries."
Auduin lowered his head, looked at the green paste in the bowl, and smelled it. The grassy smell mixed with the smell of animal fat, like liquid greenery. His lips twitched, and he refused:
"Need not."
Grom wasn't disappointed. He scooped up a dollop and smeared it on his knees, letting out a long, comfortable sigh.
Just as Auduin was about to leave, a roar suddenly came from outside the camp. The sound was rough, like the bellow of a cow or the roar of a bear, and it shook the wooden stakes.
Grom's expression changed, and he grabbed his axe: "A magical beast has invaded our territory!"
He spread his dragon wings, took flight, and soared toward the direction from which the sound came, with Bru running after him.
Flying over a forest, on the grassland at the edge of the territory, stood a large magical beast.
It is a sixth-order ironback rhinoceros, eight meters long and three meters tall at the shoulder.
Its body was covered in thick, iron-gray skin, and a row of bony plates stood upright on its back. The bony plates were like blades, gleaming coldly in the sun. It lowered its head and burrowed into the ground, exhaling air from its nostrils. It burrowed a large pit into the ground and looked around irritably.
The Ironback Rhinoceros has thick hide and tough flesh, making it one of the best defensive animals in the sixth tier. An ordinary orc can't even break its skin with a single blow. It has a bad temper and will charge at anyone it sees. It is also particularly greedy and often breaks into other territories to steal mineral salt.
These orcish territories are frequently attacked by these magical beasts.
The rhinoceros was walking towards the mine, chewing something, foaming at the corners of its mouth, and its eyes were bloodshot.
Auduin hovered in mid-air, looking down at it, while the rhinoceros seemed to sense something, raising its head to stare at him, exhaling two puffs of white breath from its nostrils, letting out a low growl, pawing the ground with its front hooves, and assuming a charging stance.
Auduin sighed. Either the rhinoceros was mentally challenged, or it had had enough of life.
He folded his dragon wings and plummeted vertically, as fast as a cannonball. The rhinoceros had no time to dodge. Auduin extended his right claw, and his four sharp claws precisely gripped the gap between the rhinoceros's skull and cervical vertebrae, twisting it forcefully.
A snap.
The iron-backed rhinoceros's neck was snapped, and its eight-meter-long body crashed heavily to the ground, raising a cloud of dust. Its four legs kicked a few times before it stopped moving. Two of the bone plates on its back fell to the ground, breaking off and exposing the white bone fragments.
Auduin loosened his claws, stood aside, and shook off the bloodstains on his claws.
Blue ran over, looked down at the rhinoceros carcass, and reached out to touch the bony plates on its back: "Boss, this thing's skin is really thick."
Alduin nodded. These rhinoceros hides were excellent defensive materials, often used by orcs to make armor.
Grom led his orcs over at breakneck speed and immediately spotted the lifeless Ironback Rhino on the ground, and Alduin shaking off his bloody claws beside him.
All the orcs were stunned, then their eyes widened in awe as they looked at Alduin.
The sixth-tier Ironback Rhinoceros had thick hide and hard armor, and even with their best efforts, they could hardly hurt it in the slightest. However, the lord easily snapped the neck of this ferocious beast in an instant, cleanly and effortlessly.
The next second, the orcs simultaneously pounded their left chests, producing a rhythmic, deep thud, and bowed deeply to Alduin, their roars filled with submission and fervor: "Long live our Lord!"
Auduin frowned; he didn't like such flattery and simply nodded, signaling them to process the prey.
The beastmen dared not shout any more, but kept their awe and loyalty hidden in their hearts.
Grom was the first to rise, bowing deeply again with a heavy thud on his chest, his voice low and respectful: "Yes, sir!"
He turned and waved, and the orcish group immediately sprang into action, with no one daring to make a fuss.
Several burly orcs brought over thick hemp ropes, skillfully looping them around the rhinoceros's body and limbs. With everyone working together, they lifted the eight-meter-long monster carcass steadily.
"Boss, the hide from this rhinoceros can be used to make a full set of leather armor for the brothers, the bone plates can be ground into axe blades, and the meat will be enough to feed the entire camp for more than half a month!"
Grom strode forward, his tone filled with undisguised joy, but even more so with gratitude towards Alduin. If it weren't for the lord's intervention, even if the training camp managed to stop the rhinoceros, they would have suffered considerable casualties.
Auduin responded calmly, "Dispose of it yourself."
Grom instantly perked up, shouting as he dragged the food along, "Extra dinner tonight! Ironback rhinoceros meat! Plenty for everyone!"
The orcs cheered and jumped for joy, their shouts deafening. The goblins in the distant mines poked their heads out to watch the spectacle, running out to look around with envy on their faces.
Grimm strode over, leaning on his cane. He glanced at the rhinoceros carcass on the ground, then looked at Alduin and exclaimed, "With Master's help, one is worth a hundred."
Alduin didn't reply and turned to walk towards the camp.
Before long, it was dinnertime. A campfire was lit in the center of the camp. The fire was three meters wide, and the flames leaped higher than the orcs.
Large chunks of rhinoceros meat were roasting over a fire, the fat dripping into the flames and sizzling, the rich aroma of the meat wafting far and wide.
The beastmen sat in a circle, each holding a large piece of roasted meat, tearing and swallowing it with gusto, their mouths dripping with oil. They gnawed on the animal bones with a crunching sound, sucking out every last bit of marrow without wasting a single drop.
The goblins sat on the outskirts of the camp, each given a small piece of meat, nibbling on it with satisfied expressions.
Grimm received a larger piece of meat, but he couldn't bear to eat it. He carefully wrapped it in oil paper, put it in his pocket, and planned to save it for the next day.
