American comic book: Absolute Spider-Man
Chapter 10 Spider-Man: Shameless
Although the Parker family and the Stacy family lived only three streets apart, their lives were completely different.
The Parker family lived in their old house their whole lives. The Parker couple were working-class people, while Gwen's father was a New York Police Department sergeant. They were well-off and lived in a new and large house.
They live on the same forest hill, yet there is an invisible line separating them by social class.
Peter walked to Gwen's house, a clean, spacious, and well-maintained two-story detached house.
He saw Gwen waiting for him on the windowsill of the second-floor bedroom.
After Gwen went downstairs to open the door for Peter, she couldn't wait to bombard him with her questions: "Peter, what exactly is going on with the changes in my body, and how did you know?"
Peter first explained to Gwen the multiverse, the web of fate, the spider totem, and the relationship between these spider totem incarnations, and then introduced the Spider-Men's abilities in detail.
After listening, Gwen was first shocked by the wonder of the universe and the grandeur of destiny.
But then she asked Peter, puzzled, "How do you know all this?"
Peter had already prepared his answer to Gwen's question: "Remember that friend you asked me about before? He's Peter Parker from another multiverse, a Spider-Man."
"During summer vacation, he unexpectedly came to our world and met me. After teaching me some knowledge and many skills, he left our universe."
"Did he also tell you that I became the spider totem?"
"Uh...yes."
"Then why did you tell me he was dead?" Gwen glared at Peter reproachfully. "I thought I had touched on something sad for you, and I felt really bad."
Peter scratched his head awkwardly: "That was because it was hard to explain at the time."
"By the way, does he even teach you to dance?"
Peter declared confidently, "As a gentleman, it would be too embarrassing to not be able to dance when invited by a lady!"
"So what is the mission or responsibility of the spider totem? Is it to protect the world like those Avengers flying around in the sky, or to be responsible for scientific exploration and serve as the first contact between humanity and extraterrestrial civilizations, like the glorious Fantastic Four?"
Peter casually said, "Protect yourself, protect your family and friends, that's enough."
"As for protecting the world, with so many powerful superhumans taking care of that, it's not something we should be concerned about."
Gwen lives alone. Her mother died of pancreatic cancer a long time ago, and her father, as a sheriff, is always away from home due to his duties.
The two talked all the way to Gwen's bedroom.
Gwen plopped down on her large bed, the sheets of which had already been changed, while Peter sat down in the chair in front of the computer desk.
"Peter, do you think I should make a suit of armor to conceal my identity? Because if there's an emergency that requires my help, I can't just go in wearing ordinary clothes and a cloth over my head, can I?"
Peter thought that made sense. Although he didn't want Gwen to bear the same responsibility as Spider-Man in other universes, in the Marvel Universe, Spider-Man's destiny was something he couldn't escape.
Who knows, one day the two of them might be walking down the street when they bump into a supervillain.
"That's how it should be. When I was researching the hemostatic gel solution that I showed you before, there was a byproduct. This failed waste liquid, after drying, forms a special fabric that is thin, extremely strong, and elastic, which is perfect for weaving combat suits."
"If you haven't decided on the design of your suit yet, we can take inspiration from Gwen Stacy's suit in other universes."
"What kind of style?" Gwen asked curiously.
"Hmm... Do you have any paintbrushes here? I'll draw it out."
Gwen rummaged through the drawer and found a box of colored pencils and a notebook, which Peter took and immediately began to draw.
Soon, a complete set of battle suit sketches appeared on a single page:
The main colors are white and black, with a pink and white spiderweb pattern on the inside of the hood, connected to a pure white mask, revealing only the eyes with two pure white pupils outlined in pink and black.
The upper body is a white, fitted, bodycon outfit, while the lower body, waist, chest, abdomen, and most of the back are covered in black.
The outer side of the arm was also covered with some pink and white spider web-like stripes.
Peter handed the concept art he had drawn to Gwen.
Gwen looked at the painting and exclaimed, "So cool! This is the style I want!"
After admiring the notebook for a while, Gwen put it aside. "Peter, but I have another question. As a Spider-Totem, why don't I have the ability to shoot webs? Then again, are there Spider-Men in other universes who can shoot webs? Where do they shoot their webs from?"
Gwen looked down at her belly button: "Here?"
Then she turned her body and glanced at her own buttocks, before giving a look of disgust: "Let's talk about here."
"Most spider totems do not have the ability to shoot silk with their own bodies, but they can achieve this through technology."
Peter removed the web-shooting devices from his hands and tossed them to Gwen.
Gwen took it and asked, "What's this?"
"The spider silk launcher was designed and manufactured entirely by me. Wearing it on your wrist, you can launch high-strength spider silk with a gentle pull of your middle and ring fingers on the small trigger on the inside. It has an effective range of 75 meters and a maximum static tensile strength of 10 tons, far exceeding the strength of aviation steel cables of the same thickness. The launched spider web will automatically degrade after two hours. Try it on first."
Gwen put the still-warm spider silk projectile on her wrist. Since Peter was rather thin, she didn't find it uncomfortable to wear.
Gwen rotated her wrist, admiring the simple yet exquisitely crafted object, like a work of art: "Peter, when did you start preparing this?"
"I've been preparing ever since I met that Spider-Man."
Gwen looked at Peter with some emotion: "Preparing for what? For me to become Spider-Man?"
Peter certainly couldn't tell Gwen that the designs for things like the web-shooters and a whole host of other equipment were originally intended for him.
If it weren't for his distorted self-perception that weakened his resonance with the web of life and destiny, the original Spider-Man would have been him, not Gwen.
At this moment, Peter shamelessly said, "Yes, besides the web-launching device in your hand and the suit I showed you, I have many other preparations."
"Once Parker Industries has grown and has more funds and equipment, I will turn all my ideas into reality."
"Peter, thank you for doing so much for me," Gwen said, looking at Peter.
Peter met Gwen's slightly moved gaze and said earnestly, "It's what I should do."
