Chapter 108 Getting Back on the Road
Chapter 108 Getting Back on the Road
The leader was wearing a black Zhongshan suit with a meticulously tailored collar, and every strand of hair looked as if it had been fixed in the right position with hair gel.
Behind him was a young man also dressed in a suit. Although he looked no different from an ordinary person, Peter knew that he was a mutant.
"Director Zheng," he spoke first.
The visitor was Zheng Xian, the director of the Divine Spear Bureau, the intelligence agency and superpower affairs management department of the Celestial Empire.
"Mr. Parker." Zheng Xian stopped in front of him and extended his hand. "There were too many people in the audience just now, so I was too embarrassed to squeeze over."
Peter grasped Zheng Xian's hand: "It's my fault for not entertaining Director Zheng well."
Zheng Xian released Peter's hand. His demeanor was composed and appropriate, exuding the aura of a high-ranking official from a major country, but Peter could still see the tension deep within him.
One issue is the vast gap in strength between the two individuals.
All the Supreme Mages throughout history have been powerful beings at least at the level of Godfather. The combined combat power of the 15 agents of the Divine Spear Bureau is not even enough to defeat one of their fingers.
On the other hand, Peter is an American.
As a native of China, the Ancient One maintained a friendly and amicable attitude towards China and the Divine Spear Bureau after becoming the Sorcerer Supreme.
But the current Sorcerer Supreme is an American, and the two countries have long been in a complex power struggle.
Therefore, Zheng Xian couldn't help but worry that the new Master Supreme's attitude might not be as friendly as that of the Ancient One.
Peter noticed Zheng Xian's anxiety and pointed it out directly: "Director Zheng's worries are completely unnecessary. My stance is not consistent with that of those politicians in China; in fact, it is diametrically opposed."
Peter's candor surprised Zheng Xian for a moment.
As a former special agent, someone accustomed to calculating three moves ahead on a chessboard, he suddenly discovered that the person opposite him had simply removed the chessboard.
"To be honest," Zheng Xian's voice was calm and unhurried, but the words he chose next were no longer the prepared diplomatic language, "Before coming here, I prepared three different sets of words to test your attitude. Now it seems that I was too narrow-minded."
"The friendly relationship between Kamar-Taj and S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue, and our commitment to protecting the Earth dimension will not waver because of my nationality or any other reason."
After Peter clarified his position, Zheng Xian, who had become somewhat acquainted with Peter, took his leave with his assistant.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, Peter used white magic to cremate the coffin containing the Ancient One's remains in front of the giant black and white portrait of the Ancient One on the stage.
Looking at Kamar-Taj, which was even more lively than during the Lunar New Year, Peter guessed that even if he didn't mention it, someone would definitely suggest holding a memorial event on the anniversary of the Ancient One's death so that Peter could get some funding for a lavish feast.
Peter gave the Eye of Agamotto to the king, then disappeared and went to the Temple of Vishanti.
He pulled out the Mamba Fang, which had been bound to the center of the temple by white magic, and carefully examined the "Sure Hit" rune inscribed by Vishanti within it.
Peter put away the Mamba Fangs and crossed space to arrive at the Avengers Tower laboratory.
Since there was nothing much going on today, apart from Tony, there were no other Avengers present in Avengers Tower.
Tony and Maya are still in the lab developing a new generation of Extremis virus, while Pepper is working on her computer.
Peter looked at them with envy, marveling at Tony's good luck.
If he had rekindled his old flame with Maya at a different time, Pepper would never have forgiven him so easily.
Only by going through life and death together can you truly cherish your partner and accept their slight infidelity.
"How's the progress?" Peter asked Tony, who was sitting at the control panel.
Tony pointed to Maya at another control panel: "Ask her. I'm researching the one I want, not the one you want."
Maya put down the reagent in her hand, looked up at Peter and said, "No progress. The Extremis virus can indeed generate high temperatures. Tony even developed a version that generates electromagnetic radiation, but I'm sorry, I still don't have a definite idea about your request for storage or generating nuclear radiation."
Peter comforted him, saying, "If you really have no ideas, that's fine. I'll bring back some ready-made samples on this trip; they might give you some inspiration."
Peter then released the Solar Armor's permissions, allowing Jarvis to upload the upgraded Friday program into the armor.
With this suit of armor and the Mamba Fang, Peter can at least put up a fight against opponents of the Kryptonian caliber.
His clothes transformed into solar armor, and Peter formed hand seals, casting a spell.
"Aren't you going to say goodbye to Gwen or Wanda?" Tony asked.
"No need. If nothing goes wrong, I'll be back soon this time."
After Peter finished speaking, he crawled into the magic spider web.
Peter was enveloped in the power of order as he traversed the void.
When he left his single universe, the Living Abyss disappeared from him.
If he hadn't "borrowed" a significant amount of lifespan from those suckers beforehand, the side effect of the Living Abyss rapidly consuming his lifespan would have been enough to kill him when he lost his status.
Now, free from the endless noise of the hive mind, Peter soars freely through the void, searching for his goal.
His purpose this time was specifically to find a universe for Vishanti that could serve as a refuge for his Earth.
This isn't about randomly picking a universe; it's about finding a universe that meets certain criteria.
First and foremost, one's birth must be legal.
The target universe must have underlying laws that can be recognized and compatible with the Vishanti's white magic system; otherwise, inter-universe migration is simply impossible to execute on the mystical side.
Therefore, the goal cannot be a universe that is completely blank at the level of concepts and laws.
Instead, it must originate from a multi-dimensional or even super-cosmic framework with a complex system of laws, capable of being compatible with an Earth from Marvel.
Furthermore, the target universe's native combat power ceiling must be low enough that the relocated Earth will not face any native threats.
Secondly, there is narrative compatibility. The target universe must have the basic soil for superhero narratives—public understanding of the concept of "superheroes," and the public opinion and ideology of social coexistence with superpowered individuals.
The core of the Marvel Cinematic Universe revolves around "superheroes," so the setting must also be a universe with a similar narrative.
If Peter were to directly choose a universe completely unrelated to superhero stories, he would have to spend a great deal of energy and resources to gradually and thoroughly transform the story of that universe into a superhero narrative.
Rather than starting from scratch, it's better to find something ready-made.
Once Peter has completely seized control of the narrative surrounding the target Earth, he will contact Vishanti to open a passage between the two worlds.
Peter will then gradually fine-tune the narratives of his target Earth and his native Earth, bringing them as close as possible to avoid any strict conflict at the narrative level.
When the time of annihilation approaches, the Vishanti can create a new blank timeline as a parallel universe to the original universe, migrating the Marvel Earth, which is similar to the original story, to a blank parallel universe.
Coincidentally, Peter knew of a certain universe where pirated versions of the Avengers, X-Men, and even the Justice League existed.
As Peter watched the star cluster grow larger and larger before him, he recalled the narrative of the self-proclaimed universe.
The power of order identified the point of light in the star cluster that was closest to Peter's thoughts and led him into it.
