American comic book: Absolute Spider-Man

Chapter 24 Tony Stark Attacked

Several television helicopters circled overhead outside the Malibu Coast Villa, broadcasting the current situation in real time.

In the villa's underground laboratory, cold blue holographic light and shadow were reflected in Tony's eyes. He stood in front of the holographic control panel, analyzing the explosion site.

By drawing on data from the FBI and S.H.I.E.L.D., he focused his attention on cities around the world where temperatures had exceeded 3000 degrees Celsius.

After a series of screenings and investigations, he finally set his sights on Rose Hill in Tennessee.

"Jarvis, create a flight plan," Tony ordered.

"Flight plan complete, sir."

Just then, the doorbell rang at Tony's house.

Out of caution, he donned his Mk42 armor and left the basement to meet the visitor.

When Tony saw the figure outside the glass door, his heart jumped into his throat—it was Maya Hansen, the scientist he had a one-night stand with in Bern thirteen years ago.

Tony had only one thought in his mind: Could he have won the lottery that night?

With a nervous heart, he opened the door.

Tony breathed a sigh of relief after learning that Maya only wanted to tell him something else.

At this moment, Pepper Potts was also in the villa. If Maya really came to claim her child, Tony would have no choice but to self-destruct his Mk42 Anti-Tony armor.

Just then, Pepper Pepper came down from upstairs.

After a polite greeting to Maya, she advised Tony to move out of the villa.

Tony believes now is not the time to move out; there is nowhere safer than here.

This is his laboratory and armory. Once he leaves, he will be completely defenseless and at the mercy of those behind the scenes.

Moreover, he had just announced his address to the whole world and declared war on the Mandarin—Tony Stark would never cower in the face of a threat, much less abandon his position and flee in disarray.

But Pepper only saw a stubborn, arrogant, and vain Tony.

The two then had a heated argument.

"Uh... is this alright?" Maya interrupted their argument, gesturing for them to look at the television broadcasting live news.

On the television screen, a small missile, trailing a long plume of flame, was flying towards the coastal villa.

Before the three could react—

"Bong!"

The missile struck the villa's load-bearing pillar, and the massive blast wave sent the three people present flying.

Tony donned the armor onto Pepper, allowing her to take Maya away first, while he remained in the crumbling villa to draw fire.

Seeing Tony's determined gaze, Pepper stopped refusing and helped Maya leave the villa.

Three helicopters, armed with machine guns and missiles, hovered over the sea opposite the villa and began unleashing a barrage of fire upon it.

Bullets struck the ground beside Tony, who, without his armor, could only scramble for cover.

Jarvis's voice came through the earpiece: "Sir, Miss Potts has escaped the building."

Upon hearing that Pepper was safe, Tony immediately summoned the Mk42 armor on Pepper's body.

The various parts of the armor separated from Pepper outside the villa and rushed towards Tony inside.

Once fully equipped, Tony quickly discovered a new problem: the Mk42 was just a prototype, and the various weapon systems mounted on it were not yet fully debugged. The missiles on the gauntlets, intended to destroy large targets, were offline.

Just then, a piano slid down the sloping ground. Tony had a sudden inspiration, aimed his palm cannons at the piano, and knocked it away from the villa's French windows facing the coast.

A piano struck the cockpit of a helicopter, causing it to lose control and crash into the sea.

Then, Tony took the missile out of his gauntlet, braced himself against the machine gun of another helicopter, and hurled the missile toward the helicopter's cockpit.

The palm-sized cannon was aimed at the missile and fired, detonating the high explosives inside.

The second helicopter lost power and began to crash.

Unfortunately, the helicopter crashed into Tony's villa.

"Oh." Tony was a little embarrassed and quickly tried to avoid the situation.

In that brief moment, a third helicopter targeted the villa and unleashed a barrage of missiles.

The missiles struck various parts of the villa, completely destroying the entire building's load-bearing structure.

The mansion, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, was now a complete disaster. The shattered concrete, floor-to-ceiling windows, expensive solid wood furniture, scattered laboratory equipment, and numerous limited-edition luxury cars in the garage all plunged into the sea.

Tony originally intended to activate the thrusters and fly away, but a steel cable connected to a large number of building debris got tangled in his armor, dragging Tony into the icy seawater.

Tony struggled on the bottom of the shallow sea. Just as he broke free of the steel cable, a huge concrete structure slammed onto his armor, knocking him unconscious.

Subsequently, the debris from the sunken building buried Tony, leaving only a hand covered in armor exposed.

Just as the armor began to leak and Tony was about to drown, the artificial intelligence Jarvis stepped in.

It manipulated the gauntlet to detach, its tail spewing flames in the water, grasped Tony's hand, pulled him out of the rubble, and then covered the bare hand again.

Without Tony's instructions, the artificial intelligence Jarvis had no idea what to do.

At this moment, the first command in its command bar was the flight plan to Rose Mountain, Tennessee, which Tony had issued not long ago.

On the sea, after seeing the villa completely destroyed and Tony Stark plunge into the ocean, the last helicopter turned around and flew away from the scene.

Unnoticed by anyone, the Mk42 broke through the water and soared into the sky.

……

Inside Peter and his friends' hideout, a computer was playing news reports about the attack on the coastal villa and the unknown fate of Tony Stark.

Peter tidied up his backpack and placed it on the table.

He glanced at the computer screen and said to the three people present, "We can begin now. Everything should proceed according to plan."

Ned put on the slingshot and cast a spell, opening a portal that led to a maintenance tunnel at LaGuardia Airport in Queens.

For novice mages like them, portals can only be opened to places they've already visited.

So they need to take a flight to Tennessee to first explore the area and create a map.

As for why the two of them should go together?

Peter and Ned are both minors. If they go to the airport alone, they will be blocked by various procedures as "unaccompanied minors". They will have to register, be questioned, and have their guardians contacted.

When two people travel together, it's just a normal trip for companions, and no one interferes. The process of buying tickets, boarding, and so on will be much smoother.

To be fair, the United States places great emphasis on protecting the rights of minors in law, but as for enforcement, well...

Inside the hideout, Harry organized all of Parker Industries' patents and certifications, then stuffed the paper documents into a briefcase.

After saying goodbye to Gwen, he left the outpost.

Norman Osborn's car was parked at the entrance to the stairwell below the base.

Harry got into the car and handed the briefcase to Norman.

After Norman took the briefcase, he looked at Harry with an unusually kind gaze, making Harry feel uncomfortable.

Looking at his restless son, Norman suddenly felt like laughing.

Osborne had plenty of capital to allow his successors to experiment and make mistakes.

Even if Harry makes a mistake by daring to take the first step in business, he is still better than Harry who spends his days loafing around and has no sense of responsibility.

Inside the outpost, Gwen, all alone, pressed a spider silk capsule into the launcher and fired a spider silk at a tungsten rod heated to 3000 degrees Celsius by thermite.

The blazing white light still swirled in the distorted air, the tungsten rod was almost incandescent, and even the surrounding metal support was heated until it turned red and soft.

The slender spider silk landed on the tungsten rod, but instead of instantly carbonizing and melting like ordinary fibers, a very thin layer of matte glaze appeared on its surface, as if it had been sintered into a dense ceramic protective layer.

She then made a phone call to Sheriff Stacy.

"Dad, I'm going away for a few days and won't be coming home."

"It's not a date with Peter! You don't need to give me money."

"No, really! Oh well, think what you want..."
