There weren't many scenes set in Beijing. Scenes in the Prince's Mansion were filmed in the studio at the film and television base, while some outdoor scenes and the wedding scene of Yu Jiaolong were filmed in the old Beijing traditional style tourist area.
Li An originally planned to film a portion of the film and then head south during the summer, but the actors cooperated very well, and the filming went by quickly.
Aside from a slight issue with Mandarin pronunciation.
Li Mubai fought with Yu Jiaolong, and the sword she had stolen was retrieved.
In the scene, Chow Yun-fat is in a courtyard at night, wielding the Green Destiny sword and performing several sword moves, when Michelle Yeoh walks over.
"The sword is back, are you happy?"
Chow Yun-fat sheathed his sword and stood there, saying, "Only after losing it and getting it back do I realize how much I still cherish it."
Yang Ziqiong stepped forward, saying, "It's no longer your sword. Didn't you say you were going to give it to the Prince?"
Chow Yun-fat also went up to him, "Yes, but I'm afraid I'll have to borrow it again."
Yang Ziqiong's expression was serious. "You want the Blue-Eyed Fox to die by this sword?"
"Xiulian," Chow Yun-fat looked down at the ground, "when you were protecting that girl, did you know...?"
"Click!"
Li An frowned and blinked. "Brother Fa, the 'er' in 'girl' is silent, so it's not 'girl.' Let's start from this sentence again."
Chow Yun-fat nodded. "Okay, director."
"Action!"
"Xiulian, you cover that woman..." Chow Yun-fat hesitated for a moment, "...while she's still a child..."
"Click! Still not right."
Li An thought for a moment, then waved to the side, "Come on, go teach Brother Fa."
"Alright!"
Jiang Lai emerged from the crowd and ran straight toward Brother Fa.
Chow Yun-fat smiled awkwardly, "Sorry to bother you, Lai Zai, my Mandarin pronunciation is really bad."
"It's okay, Brother Fa, let me teach you, I guarantee you'll learn it." Jiang Lai patted his chest.
Yang Ziqiong stepped forward at the right moment and said with a smile, "Don't worry, I couldn't pronounce the words 'jianghu' well back then, and it was Lai Zai who taught me."
Speaking of this, Jiang Lai felt his scalp tingle. He had spent several days teaching Sister Qiong just those two words. Later, Jiang Lai concluded that pronunciation cannot be taught rigidly; it must be taught flexibly, just like marking Chinese pronunciation when learning English.
Jiang Lai thought for a moment and said, "Brother Fa, the pronunciation of 'her' in English is actually quite similar. If you remove the 'e' sound, it becomes 'nü her', which means 'girl.' Give it a try."
Chow Yun-fat tried it with some skepticism, "Female, her?"
"Yes! That's the idea!" Jiang Lai clapped his hands. "Brother Fa, add a bit more of that spitting feeling, haha!"
Chow Yun-fat's eye twitched. "Sorry, kid, I really don't know how to spit."
"It doesn't matter!" Jiang Lai waved his hand. "Brother Fa, you should be brave and give it a try!"
Chow Yun-fat looked around awkwardly, "Heh...heh!"
"That's right!" Jiang Lai nodded in satisfaction. "Try combining these two techniques."
Chow Yun-fat was completely bewildered; he did whatever the other person said. "Her, hotte!"
"Chow Yun-fat is awesome! Now you can try speaking to girls."
"A girl...?"
Chow Yun-fat tried it with some doubt, and was completely bewildered. He actually read it correctly!
Jiang Lai looked at Li An with a smug expression, as if he thought Li An was a promising student. Li An silently gave him a thumbs up.
Only Sister Qiong covered her mouth and chuckled to herself. Seeing the debonair Little Ma spit out once made the trip worthwhile.
With Jiang Lai's guidance, Chow Yun-fat inexplicably managed to perform this scene perfectly.
The next day, the crew went to the Old Beijing Traditional Style Tourist Area in Pyeongchang to film Yu Jiaolong's wedding and Luo Xiaohu's attempt to steal the bride.
Just before filming began, Li An called Jiang Lai over and said, "Little Jiang, you can't act too domineering."
Jiang Lai gave an OK sign to indicate that he understood.
In the desert, Luo Xiaohu is free and powerful, his heart filled with the entire northern frontier.
But what happened after Luo Xiaohu followed Yu Jiaolong to the capital?
This former spirit of the wilderness quickly lost its magic, its face filled with deep thought and sorrow.
In the footage, the wedding procession stretched out through the bustling city, accompanied by the sounds of gongs and drums. Red sedan chairs, red veils, and everyone else were beaming with joy, except for the bride, who remained expressionless.
"Little Dragon!"
Jiang Lai spurred his horse out from the street corner, charging straight at the red sedan chair. He raised his hand and shot a hidden arrow from his wrist, causing the crowd to scatter in panic.
"Xiao Long! Come back to XJ with me!"
Jiang Lai shouted, and the soldiers immediately surrounded him, with several pulling him off his horse.
"Little Dragon! No one can marry you! You're mine! Come back to XJ with me!"
Jiang struggled fiercely, fighting with the soldiers until they drew their weapons. The gleaming blades made him realize that things were hopeless.
He struggled free from the crowd, staggered over the wall, and stood atop it, shouting defiantly at the red sedan chair:
"Xiao Long! Come back to XJ with me."
The soldiers continued to surround him, and he finally had no choice but to climb over the wall and escape.
Jiang Lai's performance in this segment was characterized by a timid and subdued demeanor, lacking any domineering presence. The once formidable "Half-Sky Cloud" who once dominated the desert was now trying to snatch a bride from the wedding procession, only to be chased away by soldiers and forced to flee over a house, leaving him in a sorry state.
What about Yu Jiaolong? She did not choose to leave with Luo Xiaohu.
When Yu Jiaolong stole the sword, Luo Xiaohu helped her escape, but he used a sneak attack, which was completely different from his behavior in the desert.
The desert is Luo Xiaohu's source of power, while the capital is a cage of etiquette and power. Without the desert, Luo Xiaohu is like a fish out of water, losing his foundation of power.
After Yu Jiaolong stole the sword, Luo Xiaohu climbed over the wall into the Yu residence and followed her to her boudoir.
Luo Xiaohu hugged Yu Jiaolong and said, "I want to make a name for myself, but every time I take a step forward, someone recognizes me. I've really tried my best."
Yu Jiaolong broke free from his embrace, turned her head away, and refused to look at him anymore. "Go back, and never, ever come back."
Luo Xiaohu's expression darkened. "That's it?"
Yu Jiaolong replied, "That's it!"
The two have met again, but they cannot reunite.
Luo Xiaohu returned the comb, which represented their betrothal gift, to Yu Jiaolong, then slipped out the window and disappeared into the night.
When Lao Zhan said that the story of Luo Xiaohu and Yu Jiaolong would definitely be popular in the West, he was only seeing the surface. What Li An really wanted to express was still the Eastern style of love.
Luo Xiaohu wanted to make a name for himself and enter the system to gain a socially recognized identity, which meant he had to move from freedom to order.
Yu Jiaolong is trying to escape from order, and his transformation means that the "Half-Sky Cloud" that Yu Jiaolong is obsessed with is dead.
Two people love each other, but their pursuits have become contradictory.
Yu Jiaolong was in love with Bantianyun, the bandit who struck fear into the hearts of the entire desert, rather than Luo Xiaohu, who wanted to achieve great things and marry a noble lady.
The two were destined to fall in love, but their fate was equally sealed.
Two romantic storylines in the movie.
Li Mu Bai and Yu Xiu Lian, because their best friend had passed away, adhered to the rules of propriety. They loved each other but could not be together. Their love was deep and restrained.
Luo Xiaohu and Yu Jiaolong, one a bandit and the other a young lady, defied societal norms and loved passionately, but ultimately destroyed themselves.
