Chapter 117 The Golden Lion Praises Roger
Chapter 117 The Golden Lion Praises Roger
"I have a way to save Roger."
A faint, piercing crackling sound of electricity suddenly rang out above the bow deck. Immediately afterward, a blue-white bolt of lightning appeared out of thin air and instantly coalesced into a figure.
It was Knok!
He reverted to his dragon-human form and returned to human form, but his face was slightly pale, his right arm hung unnaturally, and bandages and bloodstains were faintly visible at the torn part of his sleeve.
He appeared abruptly at the bow of the Golden Jackson.
"Who goes there?!" "Enemy attack!!" The pirates on deck instantly erupted in chaos! The sounds of weapons being drawn and shouts of alarm filled the air! Having just experienced a major battle, their nerves were still on edge.
Rayleigh was naturally the quickest to react.
The instant Nok's figure materialized, Rayleigh's gaze shifted from solemn to wary. His renowned sword was drawn instantly, a sharp and unparalleled silver blade of light tearing through the air, slashing towards Nok's neck with lightning speed.
The sword stopped abruptly just an inch from Nok's throat.
Nock didn't even try to dodge; he simply calmly raised his hands in a standard surrender gesture.
A helpless smile played on his lips as he met Rayleigh's gaze with a relaxed expression.
"Hey, Rayleigh, is this how you treat the person who just saved your entire ship?"
The crew members were stunned, their weapons frozen in mid-air.
Ah! My benefactor has arrived!
"My benefactor?" Rayleigh's famous sword remained motionless, its tip barely a millimeter from Nok's skin. "Stop with your tricks! Where is Shakky? Roger's capture, the siege of Reverse Mountain, and your appearance... isn't all of this related to you?!"
Questions erupted on the deck, and the crew looked at Knok with suspicion and uncertainty.
Nock's smile remained unchanged, even carrying a hint of innocent surprise: "Shakky? Oh? She's been captured?"
"I didn't know. Before I came, I said I'd go back to her for a drink. As for Roger's arrest? That was Garp's doing, what does it have to do with me? I saved you guys, you wouldn't want to repay kindness with enmity, would you?"
He shrugged, the movement aggravating his injured right arm. His brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, but his tone remained relaxed: "Mr. Rayleigh, your conspiracy theories are really hurtful. Where's the evidence? You can't just pin all the blame on me because I showed up at a slightly opportune moment, can you?"
Rayleigh stared intently into Nock's eyes, trying to find a trace of a lie in those deep pupils.
However, those eyes were as calm as a deep pool, without any ripples.
Nock's expression, tone, and movements were impeccable.
A silence fell between the two men, the air seeming to freeze. The crew held their breath, watching the two men locked in a tense standoff.
Finally, Rayleigh slowly sheathed his weapon, the blade making a crisp "clang." But his gaze didn't relax in the slightest; instead, it became even sharper, like a tangible warning, piercing towards Nock.
"I don't care who you are, or what your motives are." Rayleigh's voice was deep and oppressive. "Remember one thing: don't go too far. The Roger Pirates are not pawns to be manipulated. Shakky... is not a line you can cross."
Although there was no evidence, Reilly issued a warning.
Reilly made it clear to Nock: I'm aware of your tricks. You can use the situation, but if you dare to truly hurt those he cares about and cross his bottom line, then no matter the cost, he, Silvers Reilly, will make them pay an unbearable price!
Nock's smile deepened, seemingly unconcerned about Rayleigh's warning, even showing a hint of admiration. "Of course, of course," he waved casually, "I came with 'goodwill.'"
"Goodwill?" Jabba walked over, carrying his giant axe, staring at Nok with hostility. He chose to trust their first mate's judgment.
But many people were skeptical, after all, Nock had genuinely saved them.
"Hey! Um... Mr. Dragonman!" Shanks couldn't hold back any longer, pushing his way to the front of the crowd and looking anxiously at Nok. "You just said you had a plan? Do you really have a way to rescue Captain Roger?"
Bucky followed closely behind Shanks, his face showing tension and anticipation.
Nocturne's gaze swept over Shanks and Bucky, finally settling on Rayleigh's face. He knew it was time to throw out the bait.
"Think about it, on this vast ocean, who else harbors such utter hatred for the World Government and the Navy? Who else possesses enough power to shake the Marine Headquarters? And who might even have a sliver of 'kindness' towards your Captain Roger?"
The crew members looked at each other, and some names began to come to mind.
Nock stopped keeping everyone in suspense and revealed the answer directly: "For example, Edward Newgate, who resides in the New World, possesses the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, and is known as the strongest man in the world!"
"Or perhaps... that flying pirate with ambitions to conquer the world?"
Nock spread his hands, his smile pure and innocent: "Join forces with one or even both of them! Gather the strongest power in the New World! Wreak havoc at Marine Headquarters! 'Invite' your captain out of the cage of justice in a fair and square manner! How about it?"
"Joining forces... Whitebeard?! Golden Lion?!" Jabba was the first to express doubt. "What a joke! Those two would love for the captain to die! Especially that bastard Golden Lion, he practically wanted to devour the captain alive back in God Valley!"
“Exactly!” Spencer frowned as well. “They’re our rivals! Our competitors. Losing a strong competitor is a huge benefit for them! Why would they help us?”
"Exactly! Although Whitebeard isn't as cunning as Golden Lion, his family is what he values most. How could he risk his sons to save his enemy?" Another old crew member shook his head.
The anticipation on Shanks and Buggy's faces froze, jolted awake by the cold water of reality. Yes, those two were legendary pirates on par with Captain Roger, even more fearsome in some ways! Rivals! What reason did they have to risk so much to rescue someone who might become their ultimate obstacle at Marine Headquarters?
Nock shook his head confidently. If he didn't have the information from the plot prophecy, he probably wouldn't have made such a suggestion.
After all, who could have imagined that after Roger became the Pirate King and surrendered himself due to illness, it was his mortal enemy, Shiki, who single-handedly caused a ruckus in Marineford for him?
Golden Lion admires Roger and regards him as his greatest rival, one that only he can defeat personally!
Furthermore, Shiki was once one of the greatest oppressors of God Valley and had been infatuated with Shakky. Nok personally believes that these two assets, along with Shiki's ambition to peek into the new world, are enough to make him form an alliance with Rayleigh.
But not enough.
