Time Travel 04: I Fight the US in the Middle East

Chapter 13 Sniping the Lieutenant Colonel

The burning tank couldn't be faked; it really was destroyed by a roadside bomb!

Looking through the commander's scope at the burning tank ahead, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker took a deep breath and picked up the radio.

"Attention all battalion, dismount and fight!" Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker gave the order over the radio.

US soldiers rarely dismount from their vehicles to fight; most of the time, they remain inside their infantry fighting vehicles and charge alongside them. But now…

We can't let the tank units suffer any more losses! They must dismount and coordinate infantry-tank operations!

After all, there are too many dangers under the cover of night!

Who knows if some fearless individual might suddenly jump out, carrying an RPG and attacking the tank's weakest point?

Tanks provide fire support while infantry protect the tanks. This combined arms tactic is a classic one that has existed since World War II and remains relevant today!

The doors of M2 infantry fighting vehicles opened, and hundreds of soldiers disembarked, forming skirmish lines behind the tanks. They bypassed the temporary passage opened up by the exploding tanks and slowly approached the village.

The engineers continued to clear the remaining IEDs, this time being more cautious, since there might actually be bombs!

The exploded tank was still burning, illuminating the dark night sky and appearing particularly eerie. Whether charging forward or clearing mines from the rear, everyone felt an indescribable fear.

The loss of three tanks at once is unprecedented on the battlefield last year; this opponent is quite formidable!

In the distant ditch, Majid looked at Azam beside him and asked, "Should we retreat or not?"

The two stayed behind merely to observe and see if the newly developed bombs would actually work. They buried only three real bombs, and they all exploded. You could say they were incredibly lucky.

Now that their mission is complete, it's time for them to leave!

This area won't be searched by US soldiers for now. Once they find the village empty, they might be able to find this place if they look around!

Azam's eyes remained fixed ahead. The soldiers on the M2 infantry fighting vehicles had all disembarked, and the vehicles remained stationary. However, one vehicle was particularly suspicious, as it was surrounded by soldiers guarding it.

This must be the command vehicle, right?

Wait, wait a little longer!

He always felt that hiding here might allow him to catch a big fish...

Rumble...

The sound of buildings collapsing could be heard; clearly, the tanks were venting their anger!

Then, flames roared up from the village, one, two...

It was clearly the American soldiers who were searching the village who found it to be empty, so they started setting it on fire!

We may lose the land but save the people; we may lose the people but save the land. As long as the people leave, we can rebuild the village at any time in the future!

Moreover, with their homes burned down, everyone's fighting spirit will be even stronger!

Wait, the target seems to be making a move!

A minute earlier, in the command vehicle, Captain Edwin Schmidt put down the radio, looking utterly helpless: "The whole village is empty, everyone's run away!"

"Looks like the guerrillas have something to do with this village!" Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker gritted his teeth. "Humph, shouldn't these damned Itau people thank us? We helped them overthrow the dictatorship and brought them freedom and democracy!"

Just then, the ground shook violently!

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker's expression changed, and he looked at the commander's mirror.

A bonfire is lit in the village...

"These damned bastards, aren't they as bad as this already?" Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker gritted his teeth.

If it weren't for a group of people going to the village to have fun, would all four vehicles have ended up being destroyed?

If the people in this village really were connected to the guerrillas, massacring the entire village wouldn't be out of the question, but now... perhaps the villagers have all fled out of fear?

Now that the whole village has been destroyed, what if those damned reporters find out...?

"Let's go out and take a look!"

"Lieutenant Colonel, it's dangerous outside!"

"Can you stop those people from doing that?"

Captain Edwin Schmidt shook his head. Right now, only the battalion commander could control those enraged soldiers…

With a creak, the rear hatch opened.

Captain Edwin Schmidt was the first to come out and shout to the sentries standing outside, who immediately gathered together.

Then, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker came out from inside, carrying his helmet.

In the distance, Azam was overjoyed; he had finally caught a big fish!

Hold your breath, aim at your target using the light from the bonfire burning in the village, and pull the trigger!

Bang!

The moment the bullet left the muzzle, he grabbed his rifle and yelled, "Run!"

Being a sniper isn't easy, because they often face enemy artillery fire!

He only had one chance to fire! And he didn't even have time to see the result!

Without hesitation, Majid followed Azam and ran along the ditch!

Just then, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker walked out, putting his helmet on as he went, when suddenly something slammed into his chest!

The force of the impact caused his body to fall backward instantly, his helmet hit the ground, and the back of his head struck the door frame of the command vehicle.

Boom!

boom!

Gunshots followed!

"Damn it, a sniper!" Captain Edwin Schmidt exclaimed in alarm. "Quick, protect the lieutenant colonel!"

The soldiers rushed over in unison, forming a circle with their bodies to block bullets that might come from any direction!

Edwin Schmidt turned his head to look back, a sense of relief washing over him.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker's legs dangled on the ramp created by the open car door, while his upper body had already fallen back into the vehicle.

He was shot in the chest; the bright yellow bullet embedded itself in the bulletproof plate, but didn't penetrate! It seems at most there will be some bruising on the internal skin, nothing serious…

"Lieutenant Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, are you alright?"

Something's wrong. Why isn't the lieutenant colonel responding?

Edwin Schmidt rushed over and helped Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker to his feet. He was incredibly heavy, his head drooping backward! He could only reach out to support the back of Parker's head…

Something's wrong! It's sticky!

Blood!

The back of his head was covered in blood!

"Lieutenant Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel!"

Still no movement!

Edwin Schmidt quickly laid him flat, then reached out to touch his nose—no breathing! The artery in his neck… had stopped beating!

Finished!

He wasn't killed by the bullet, but he fell backward and hit the back of his head!

Normally, hitting the back of the head wouldn't cause any harm, but the impact of an SVD sniper bullet is astonishing. Lieutenant Colonel Robert Parker wasn't wearing a helmet, and the impact caused brainstem damage, causing his breathing and heart to stop instantly, resulting in his death!

This is insane...

Looking at the battalion headquarters guards outside, who were anxiously watching for the battalion commander's safety, Edwin Schmidt gritted his teeth: "What are you all looking at? Let those idiots from the village out! Quickly search for the sniper!"
