Game of Thrones: Dragons have three heads, not three-headed dragons.
Chapter 26 Reunion with the Three-Eyed Raven, and the Unexpected Dragon Egg
For the next two days, Oris's expedition rested at the foot of the First Men's Fist Peak. The two tribes often exchanged supplies, but no conflict broke out under the control of Oris and Mance-Red. Oris also tried to control the hurricane and the phantom to search for weirwood along the Milk River.
After Oris and the others finished resting and headed west into the depths of Frostfang, Oris spotted a tall weirwood tree through the hurricane's vision. He immediately manipulated the hurricane to stop at the top of the weirwood tree, then broke out of his shapeshifting state and controlled Durotan to run towards the hurricane's location at full speed, leaving the others far behind.
After a half-day trek, Oris ventured alone into the hollow of the weirwood tree. The scene inside was exactly as Oris had dreamt: the three-eyed raven was emaciated, and the roots of the weirwood tree pierced through his thighs and emerged from his shoulders. A thin root crawled down his cheek from his other empty eye socket and embedded itself in his neck.
Perhaps sensing Oris's arrival, the Three-Eyed Raven opened its intact eyes and said, "So you finally found me." Oris replied, "Perhaps it's my luck; I can vaguely sense the forest magic emanating from you." Hearing Oris's words, the Three-Eyed Raven remained silent. Seeing this, Oris said directly, "I'm here. Now hand over the Dark Sisters, won't you?" Oris then stared unblinkingly at the Three-Eyed Raven.
The Three-Eyed Raven spoke up at this moment, saying, "I need a promise, otherwise I will not hand over the sword to you." Oris said directly, "You really think you can negotiate with me? I just want to return the Dark Sisters to the Targaryens." After Oris finished speaking, he drew the red dragon sword from his waist and pointed it at the Three-Eyed Raven.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed through the once quiet tree hollow, and three Children of the Forest emerged from the shadows behind the tree. Unlike the Children of the Forest in the TV series from my previous life, they were more beautiful and thinner. They were shorter, with chestnut skin and large ears, and their golden eyes held undisguised hostility when they looked at Oris.
Oris became interested in the Forest Children wielding dragon crystal weapons and said, "If you give me these Forest Children, I might consider letting you go; otherwise, I'll have to take action." Oris finished speaking and watched the Three-Eyed Raven's reaction, only to see the Three-Eyed Raven utter words that sounded like a song. Oris, puzzled, continued to hold his sword against the Three-Eyed Raven, his left hand already resting on the hilt of Night.
After the Three-Eyed Raven finished speaking, a Forest Child slowly retreated from Oris, and soon emerged, wielding the Dark Sisters sword, which it planted in front of Oris. Oris was not careless; he gripped the hilt of the Dark Sisters with his left hand, examining the flaming grip and the water-ripple patterns on the blade. After confirming it was genuine, Oris slowly sheathed the Red Dragon sword, and holding the Dark Sisters, said, "Now we can discuss your demands."
The Three-Eyed Raven stared at Oris with its single eye and said, "I need your guarantee that you will never set foot in Westeros again." Oris laughed at this and replied dismissively, "Your power is no match for me. You must have expended a lot of magic pulling me into a dream last time." "In your current state, you have no leverage to threaten me. Westeros is the dwelling place of the gods; the whereabouts of just two dead dragons are not enough."
After speaking, Oris stared at the Three-Eyed Raven's face with disdain. He really didn't know if this guy was arrogant or stupid. He hadn't seized the opportunity to deal with Oris when he entered the dream before, and given the Three-Eyed Raven's current state, it was even less likely.
Based on the storyline of that unfortunate TV series from his previous life, Oris never thought the Three-Eyed Raven was an easy person to deal with. An old monster who had lived for thousands of years, who survived by constantly changing bodies and still wanted to control all the knowledge on the continent, was a perfect template for a major villain.
The Three-Eyed Raven and Oris exchanged a glance, and the Raven slowly sighed, saying, "So what do you want?" Oris was waiting for the Three-Eyed Raven to back down, so he simply said, "My biggest concession is that I can guarantee I won't interfere in your succession matters."
The Three-Eyed Raven pondered for a moment before replying, "I can give you a dragon egg." Oris was somewhat surprised to hear this. The last dragon eggs in Westeros had been destroyed in the Summerhall incident; where did this guy get an egg? Oris asked this question after thinking about it.
At this moment, the Three-Eyed Raven spoke mysteriously, "Silverwing was the only surviving female dragon from the Dance of the Dragons. After the Dance ended, she nested in the Red Lake in the Reach and lived until the time of Aegon III. She died after laying her last dragon egg, and the previous Three-Eyed Raven used forest magic to preserve the egg's vitality." After recounting the egg's origin in one breath, Oris was also astonished. He only knew that Silverwing survived to the end, but he had no idea that Silverwing had laid a dragon egg at the end, which the Three-Eyed Raven had obtained.
Oris knew that the Glutton and the Sheep Thief were after the dragon eggs. This was because Oris didn't know the true gender of the two dragons, and because no one knew where they had gone. This gave Oris a glimmer of hope. However, Oris never expected that the dragon eggs laid by the Silverwing, which had a clear nesting location, would end up in the hands of the Three-Eyed Raven.
Oris's surprise lasted only a moment before he regained his composure and said, "Tell me what you want." The Three-Eyed Raven, seeing Oris's expression, said, "I want you to stay away from Westeros for five years." Oris silently calculated the time in his mind. This year was 297, and the Night King's invasion was around 300. For those five years, Oris could only watch the events unfold in Westeros from Essos on the other side of the river, unable even to participate in the war against the Night King. It was quite possible that this guy would actually achieve his goal in the end.
Oris immediately retorted, "One year. I will not set foot in Westeros for at most one year. During this time, you can do as you please, and I will not interfere." The Three-Eyed Raven, upon hearing Oris's reply, asked, "I have already conceded to three years. I hope you will keep your promise." This time, Oris shook his head and replied, "Two years. I will not set foot in Westeros for two years, nor will I interfere in anything in Westeros in any way."
The Three-Eyed Raven pondered for a long time before silently nodding, while the other Forest Child turned and walked deeper into the cave. Oris wanted to follow, but was stopped by the two Forest Children with daggers. In fact, Oris was genuinely curious about how many treasures the Three-Eyed Raven had hidden over the past few thousand years.
Soon the Forest Child returned, carrying a bright green dragon egg. Unlike the bronze dragon egg of Daenerys Targaryen in the TV series, its green color appeared more vibrant and lively. Oris quickly took the dragon egg and put it into the satchel on Durotan's back.
