The Only Player in Infinite Terror

"Brother Jie, you're being too modest," Ling Qi comforted Zhang Jie. "Without a doubt, you're a really good person."

"The kindness of the weak often stems from having no other choice, while the willingness of the strong to be good people comes from their genuine desire to be good people."

"Ordinary people are bound by the law, while those who do evil will be punished by the state's violent machinery."

"The strong are only bound by their own inner morality. The law has no right to punish a superman because the state's violent machinery is no threat whatsoever to such a powerful individual who can rival an entire nation."

"Just like before entering the main god space, many reincarnators were once 'good people,' but that was only because they lacked power."

"Once they gain superhuman strength and become unrestrained, the evil they commit would probably make even the devils in hell ashamed."

"The same is true in reality. Throughout history, except for a very few armies, the vast majority of armies have almost inevitably carried out massacres after breaching a city."

"During the massacre, soldiers would commit various atrocities such as looting, rape, and even killing contests."

"Before joining the army, they might have been good colleagues, good husbands, good fathers, or good people."

"But once they become soldiers who have taken up arms, they undoubtedly hold the power of life and death over civilians."

"In this situation, their evil thoughts are not only unrestrained, but are even encouraged by their superiors and comrades."

"As a result, the evil thoughts in their hearts will expand infinitely, and they will commit all sorts of heinous crimes."

"This shows that the kindness of ordinary people is often not true kindness, and their so-called kindness cannot withstand the test of power."

"But you are different, Brother Jie. You have great power. With your power, destroying a country by yourself is nothing."

"But when faced with a life-or-death test, the final result was that you gave up using your superpowers and gave up killing those of us who could threaten your survival."

"Having a sword in your hand but not using it to harm others—doesn't that prove you're truly a good person?"

Zheng Zha listened for a long time, but he didn't really understand many things.

But one thing he understood very clearly was that Zhang Jie could have killed them, the newcomers, but he didn't.

So he smiled and comforted Zhang Jie, saying, "Brother Jie, judge by actions, not intentions; no one is perfect when it comes to intentions."

"All I know is that in the end, you not only didn't harm us, but you also helped us, and that's enough."

Zhan Lan quickly chimed in, "That's right, Brother Jie. I feel that it's precisely because you're a good person that you have such high expectations of yourself, and that's why you feel guilty and remorseful towards us."

"Many people do evil with a clear conscience, but you, Brother Jie, only had some bad thoughts without taking any action."

"Should good people be held at gunpoint? Bad people are praised for doing a good deed, but good people are endlessly criticized for making a small mistake. What kind of bullshit logic is that?"

Zhang Jie smiled with relief, "Ling Qi, Zheng Zha, Zhan Lan, thank you for your comfort."

"I understand. Then let us stand side by side until death, in this God Realm, in that infinite world."

Ling Qi nodded in satisfaction. In his experience, at this point, Zhang Jie, the biggest unstable factor in the early stages of the Zhongzhou team, had basically won over the team.

Ling Qi thought for a moment and then added, "Brother Jie, by the way, there's an item I think will be very helpful for you to unlock your gene lock. Go to the Main God and search for the Human-Human Fruit - Human Form."

Zhang Jie closed his eyes, connected with the main god, and searched for a while.

He quickly opened his eyes and said, "The Supreme God said that this exchange comes from One Piece and belongs to the Zoan type of Devil Fruit."

"It has no upgrade options; to redeem it, you only need one D-rank side quest and 800 reward points."

"It's strange. In the description of the main god, this fruit has almost no beneficial effects. Its only function is to enable non-human creatures to gain human intelligence, learning ability, language ability, logical thinking ability, etc., and to increase physical attributes by a small amount."

"Logically speaking, such an enhancement should be useless."

"But in my case, the God of God gave me a score of 100. It seems that in the God of God's eyes, this enhancement is particularly suitable for me."

Ling Qi was not surprised by this. "Gene lock is a rather idealistic meme. Generally speaking, as long as one recognizes oneself as a human being, even a robot can unlock the gene lock."

"Correspondingly, if a person does not perceive himself as human, no matter how pure his human bloodline is, he will not be able to unlock his genetic potential."

"Brother Jie, your situation is rather special. I estimate that this exchange should help you strengthen your self-awareness as a human being, thereby reducing the difficulty of unlocking higher-level gene locks."

"But Brother Jie, you probably don't have any D-rank side quests, only B-rank ones, right?"

"It would be a huge loss to break down a Category B car into a Category D car."

"How about this, Brother Jie? I happen to have an extra D-level side quest. In each interlude of the main god, reincarnators are allowed to redeem one for their teammates."

"I'll exchange your Human-Human Fruit for you."

Zhang Jie readily agreed. "That's good, that's definitely possible. Thank you, Ling Qi."

"In that case, I don't need to use these two B-level side quests and the 1 reward points for now. It's a waste to just leave them there."

"Ling Qi, what do you want? I'll exchange it for you. You can return it to me when I want to exchange for the Divine Bloodline later."

Ling Qi was stunned. This scene had never occurred during the two-plus months of closed beta testing of the game.

Generally speaking, this storyline ends when he buys the Human Fruit for Zhang Jie in a D-level side quest.

Could this also be a change brought about by the version update?

After thinking for a moment, Ling Qi nodded and said, "Alright, these two B-level side quests still have 1 reward points. Since you don't need them for the time being, Brother Jie, lend them to me."

"When you're ready to exchange for the Divine Bloodline, you just need to provide two A-level side quests and 3 reward points. I'll cover the remaining A-level side quest and 2 reward points."

Zhang Jie waved his hand, wanting to refuse.

Ling Qi interrupted, "Is it really settled like that? In reality, you have to pay interest when you take out a loan from a bank."

"Brother Jie, don't be shy. I feel like I've already given you too much."

"For me, this is the early stage of the game. The two B-level side quests in the early stage are even more important than the two A-level side quests in the later stage."

When he said this, Ling Qi exuded an indescribable aura of power.

Zhang Jie smiled somewhat embarrassedly, "Alright then, with such a high rate of return, it seems I have a chance to become the number one investment master in the God's Space."
