Warhammer: Primarch's Life from the Beginning

Chapter 19 Blood Sacrifice to the God Emperor

No one remembers which underground pipe the first vampire emerged from.

The first person to see it was a police officer from the Ministry of Justice. He was standing behind a blockade in Xiachao, holding a light explosive gun, and his nose was filled with the smell of engine oil and blood.

He first heard a scraping sound from behind the iron fence, like something scratching at the wall with its claws. Then a horned head emerged from the crack, its mouth full of fangs bared, and it let out a panting breath at him.

The policeman didn't hesitate. He tightened his throat, but his chest rose first, and he screamed himself hoarse when he pulled the trigger.

"Report! Enemy detected..."

The moment the first shot rang out, war broke out across the entire planet.

The garrison on the surface of the hive was well prepared. Officers and political commissars shouted themselves hoarse over the communications, repeatedly repeating the key points issued by the authorities before the battle: long-range artillery could not suppress these monsters; chainsaw swords and power weapons were the only way to deal with them.

The flamethrower, a weapon that is not a ranged attack but can maintain a certain distance, exploited a bug in Khorne's design.

Flamethrowers and heavy flamethrower machines were immediately deployed to the front, blocking all breaches with walls of fire. At the street corner, the Astragalus firemen lowered their nozzles, sending columns of fire sweeping across the ground.

The vampires that had just leaped out of the pipe were burned and rolled on the ground, while the monsters behind them crashed into the fire, screaming as they turned to ashes. The stormtroopers responsible for guarding the area used the firelight to pick off any survivors. Most of the humans were seeing such surreal monsters for the first time, and the sight was terrifying, but they still kept their triggers firmly on their hands, because the order had been made very clear: no retreat, and anyone who tried to escape would be executed.

The lower levels of the hive had become a living hell. Violent warp forces, fueled by sacrifices and slaughter, poured into reality. Blood seeped from the walls, the ground scorched, and the laws of physics were distorted, the environment gradually resembling the domain of Khorne. Lower-ranking demons crawled on the ground, drawing sacrificial runes and piling corpses into altars. Not content with mere slaughter, they sought to transform this place into a battlefield more suitable for their masters, preparing for the emergence of Khorne's greater demons, the bloodthirsty freaks.

The intensity of the war across Terra escalated wildly within seconds. Every street was engulfed in battle, and death was felt at every corner. Trenches, steps, drawbridges, and transfer stations all became slaughterhouses. Human blood, torn to shreds, flowed across the ground, and demons charged forward, emitting satisfied growls, as if they had finally tasted what they desired.

A torrent of crimson, mixed with wings, gushed from the pipe openings, spraying continuously into the air. Soon, the sky above people's heads was filled with countless winged demons, screaming as they announced their arrival while crashing into the high-altitude fire net.

Anti-aircraft guns and fighter jets immediately opened fire, their trajectories creating a dense net in the air, but the monsters pressed forward despite the firepower, while even more were still taking off below.

The ground was no less chaotic. Khorne berserkers, shouting "Blood sacrifice to the Blood God! Skull offering to the Skull Throne!", crashed into the defenders' ranks, their chain axes and greatswords striking the shield walls, sparks and blood splattering everywhere. The bronze bulls beneath the demon cavalry climbed up the vertical garbage dump, knocking over the machine gun emplacements beside the platform.

Simultaneously, a swarm of eyes lit up in the darkness below the ventilation duct, densely packed, making a young soldier's palms sweat profusely. Just as he raised his gun, the darkness exploded, and the monster that rushed out slammed him into the wall.

Dark red clouds loomed overhead, making the defenders' vision increasingly obscured.

While immersed in the battle, these demons attempted to weave strands of chaotic fel energy to destroy the will of their enemies, shattering their psychological defenses through extreme violence, and using warp storms to create genetic mutations that tormented their senses. Some saw their comrades' faces rotting, some felt worms crawling under their skin, and others heard the voices of their dead family members calling them to turn back.

But they soon discovered that this tactic had failed to achieve its intended effect. The priests standing in the center of the position raised their holy scepters and chanted sacred words, forcefully dispelling the filth layer by layer. The mortal priests, dressed in simple robes, did not retreat. Instead, they charged into the demon horde, wielding massive chainswords, hacking and slashing as they shouted, "For the God-Emperor!" They bathed in the blood of the demons, ignoring the whispers of Khorne in their ears.

The church bells tolled incessantly. The winged demons in the air seemed to have been struck by something, their movements becoming distorted. Many monsters lost their balance and plummeted from the heights, only to be picked off one by one by the stormtroopers waiting below.

Just as the demons on the ground surged into the steel torrent of the Celestial Army, a massive wave of Church reinforcements arrived.

The transport ship, carrying icons and banners, crashed into the block. As soon as the hatch opened, battle nuns leaped out in rows. The liquid flames flowing in the demon blood were extinguished under the Holy Seal of the God Emperor. With their supernatural powers weakened, the valiant Blood Legion was no different from slightly larger mortals in the eyes of the battle nuns, who did not regard them as anything invincible.

Just as a Blood Legion champion cleaved open the Lemanustank's turret with his axe and turned around, a high-ranking nun leaped up from the wreckage and delivered a devastating headshot, her chainsaw slicing from its forehead to its jaw, scattering flesh and bone fragments everywhere.

Bloodhounds roamed the streets, demon cavalry clashed with heavy machinery, and occasionally, the demon infantry, whose collars and seals resonated with each other, summoned more power from the warp, attempting to strengthen themselves and destroy the solid defenses before them.

But the humans before them only grew more frenzied with each battle. The battle nuns and the priests who loved melee combat looked at the demon's face without the slightest intention of backing down, only responding with even greater rage.

Terra is the home ground of the God-Emperor and his son. The sacred objects on this land are also responding to their masters. Rosary, reliquary, badges and skull ornaments are also constantly trembling and emitting low hums. Some wounded nuns have just had their arms cut open, and before the blood has even flowed out, the wounds are already visibly closing. Their roars even once overwhelmed the Khorne demon army.

This forced the Khorne Legion to remain pinned down near their breakthrough point by the pre-deployed defenders, no matter how brutal or bloodthirsty they were.

Leo's previous deployments did indeed work, and the intrusion did not grow to the scale it should have been.

Currently, only thirteen legions of the Khorne demons have appeared on Terra, a far fewer number. However, they are demons who are particularly adept at fighting, and the Empire's casualty figures continue to rise.

Finally, with the deaths and bloodshed of the current Imperial garrison on Terra as a catalyst, several high-ranking Khorne archdemons finally entered the mortal realm. However, the sacrifice was far too weak, and only three bloodthirsty berserkers set foot on the land of Terra. Two of them appeared outside the palace, while one landed in a hive city with extremely bad luck.

The warp energy of that hive city immediately surged. The civilians in the safe zone who were listening to the priests preach just a second ago were all rolling on the ground with their heads in their hands, spitting blood and frothing at each other as they went mad.

Reality was dragged and distorted. Steel pipes emerged from the walls and the ground, branching outwards like capillaries, and the entire nest instantly collapsed. The bodies of the ordinary demons also swelled, their joints grew longer, their muscles bulged, and their roars shook the window panels and platforms, breaking through the defenders' lines of defense.

Before the main gate of the imperial palace, the Imperial Guards had already formed ranks. Several shield-guard legions stood side by side outside the city gate, their garrison spears standing like a forest, their sentry swords hanging at their waists, and their golden armor spread out in formation. No one spoke, only the steady breathing inside their armored vehicles, as they quietly awaited their commander's order to set out.

Trajan stood at the front of the battle lines, his cloak trailing behind him, his gaze sweeping over the city walls towards the distant area where fire and cannon fire clashed. The city's defensive cannons continued firing, their booming sounds crashing into the air, each strike fueling the fighting spirit of the Imperial Guard commander.

Leo stood beside him, not looking at the Imperial Guards who had finished their formation, but closing his eyes to sense the changes in psionic energy throughout Terra. Khorne's aura had completely torn away the disguise, and his divine spiritual energy ignited, even the halo behind his helmet shone brightly.

Trajan turned his head to look at him, without pressing him for answers, waiting for him to speak.

A moment later, Leo opened his eyes.

"The enemy commanders have all come out." His voice was steady. "Except for the one that's far away, these two outside the palace are all of them."

After hearing this, Trajan calmly nodded and handed the guard's spear to Leo.

Leo reached out and took it; the spear shimmered with golden light the moment he gripped it in his hand. He turned to look at Trajan.

"We can set off now," he said. "I will be going with the troops."
