Chapter 136 Ironforge
Chapter 136 Ironforge
Five days later.
Arthas and Karn arrived at Ironforge.
Ironforge was built on the mountainside.
The city gate was a huge iron gate, with the emblem of the dwarven kingdom cast on its surface, featuring crossed hammers and battle axes, surrounded by anvils and flames.
Two dwarf guards stood at the entrance. They were less than the chest height of an adult human, but their shoulders were as broad as a door. Their beards were braided into thick plaits that reached their waists. They wore heavy plate armor, and the battle axes they held were taller than themselves.
"Humans?" The guard on the left looked up, sizing up Arthas and Karn. "What are you doing in Ironforge?"
"Looking for someone." Arthas pulled out the Hero's Badge from his pocket and waved it in front of the guard.
The guard's eyes narrowed into round beans, and his beard twitched slightly. The guard on the right leaned over to look at the badge. The two dwarves exchanged a glance and silently made way for him.
"Hero, please come in." The guard on the left lowered his voice and said respectfully.
Arthas put away his badge and walked through the city gate.
Ironforge's interior is even more breathtaking than its exterior. The entire city is built on a hillside and is divided into three levels from bottom to top.
The lower level houses residential areas and markets, with buildings constructed from volcanic rock and corrugated iron, and numerous chimneys with wisps of smoke rising from their chimneys.
The middle floor is the workshop area, with blacksmith shops, forging workshops, and weapons shops lined up one after another. The clanging and banging of metal being hammered came from all directions, making one's eardrums numb.
The upper level houses the royal palace and temples, their white stone walls gleaming coldly in the twilight, like a crown adorning the mountaintop.
The streetlights on both sides of the street were made of iron pillars and crystals, and the light from the crystals illuminated the entire street.
Arthas walked up the main street, through the bustling crowd. Most of Ironforge's residents were dwarves and half-dwarves, with the occasional human merchant and adventurer standing out conspicuously in the crowd.
"Captain Kahn, do you know Ninia?"
"I've only seen her file; she's a member of the 'Frost's Words' team. That's all I know, but I've already asked the leader to speak to her."
"What did the commander say?"
"You'll have to convince her yourself."
"The captain seems to trust me quite a bit." Arthas didn't stop walking, his gaze sweeping over the blacksmith shops on both sides.
"It's not that I don't trust you," Kahn said calmly, following behind Arthas. "It's about Ninia. What others say doesn't matter; she only believes what she sees."
The two walked through the busiest section of the workshop district, where the sounds of blacksmithing gradually faded away, replaced by the noise of the tavern and the rough singing of the dwarves.
The Adventurers' Guild in Ironforge is located at the junction of the middle and upper levels, and its architectural style is completely different from that of Holy City.
It is a rugged and imposing black iron building.
Alsace pushed open the door and went inside.
The counter was made of ironwood, with a map of the area around Ironforge engraved on the tabletop, the edges of which were polished to a shine.
The staff member was a short woman with two thin braids hanging down beside her ears, and she was sorting out task sheets.
"Excuse me, is Ninia Ignir here?"
The female dwarf raised her head, her gaze lingering for a moment on the hero's badge on his chest, before looking at Kahn.
"What do you want with her?"
"Let's team up."
The female dwarf raised her eyebrows, put down her quill, and looked Arthas up and down.
"You're Dick Reynolds?"
"That's right."
"A message came from Holy City a couple of days ago, saying that a hero will be coming to Ironforge to find Ninia." The dwarf woman crossed her arms. "You're also from the Dawn of Light?"
"right."
"Ninia isn't at the guild; she went to the training ground outside the North Gate. She's there every afternoon."
"Training ground?"
"Outside the North Gate, walk along the mountain path for a quarter of an hour, and there is an abandoned quarry where she practices magic."
"Thanks."
Arthas turned and walked toward the door.
The mountain path outside the North Gate was much quieter than inside the city, with black rock walls on both sides. The mountain wind blew in from the north, carrying the scent of ice and snow, which contrasted sharply with the heat wave inside Ironforge.
We walked for about fifteen minutes.
Across the way lay a vast abandoned quarry.
The ground was pitted and uneven, with broken rocks and black slag everywhere. In the very center of the quarry, there was a woman.
Her long red hair fluttered in the wind, the ends of which were charred black, as if they had been burned.
She wore an orange-red robe and held a staff in her hand, the head of which was inlaid with a fist-sized ruby, inside which flames danced.
There were more than a dozen targets on the abandoned quarry, some of which were burned beyond recognition.
Ninia raised her staff, and the ruby at the tip of the staff suddenly lit up, a pillar of fire shooting out from the tip of the staff and shooting straight toward the farthest target.
The flames were not ordinary orange-red, but almost white and blazing. The temperature was so high that the surrounding air began to distort. The target vaporized instantly in the flames, leaving not even a piece of debris, but only a ring of charred marks on the ground.
She waved her staff again.
The second column of fire spread out in a fan shape, engulfing an entire row of targets. Wherever the flames passed, rocks shattered, slag flew, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of sulfur.
"Very strong." Kahn's voice came from behind Arthas, with a rare hint of approval in his tone.
Alsace stepped into the quarry.
"Who?" Ninia turned around, her light brown eyes staring straight at Arthas. Her gaze lingered for a moment on the hero's badge on Arthas's chest before turning to Cain.
"Dick Reynolds and Kahn Greymane, Dawn of Light." Arthas stopped ten paces in front of Ninia. "I've come to invite you to join my party."
"You guys got the first kill on Dark Hemkas?"
"right."
"Where are you looking for me to team up with?"
"The Well of the Sun"
Ninia sized up Alsace and Kahn.
"Commander An Ruiwei mentioned it to me, but why me? There are so many people in the guild."
"Because you are the strongest fire mage in Dawn of Light, and you are indispensable if we want to conquer the Sunwell."
Ninia's lips curled up slightly, not in a smile, but more like an expression of "something's interesting".
"Do you know why I'm in Ironforge?"
"have no idea."
“Because I don’t want to stay in Holy City. It’s too noisy, crowded, and full of rules.” Ninia spoke in a very calm voice. “But Ironforge is different. Dwarves don’t waste words, don’t pry, and don’t gossip. They only care about two things: blacksmithing and drinking.”
"You don't like to talk?"
"I don't like talking to people who talk a lot of nonsense."
Arthas nodded. He liked Ninja's straightforward personality. Although he could sense her temper, she was much better than the teammate who kept quiet about everything.
"Then I'll get to the point. The legendary dungeon, the Sunwell, remains unconquered, and the Order of Samigina and the Kingdom of Grasha are working together to conquer it. We can't let them succeed."
Why?
"Because I know what they want."
"What is it?"
"The body of a hero."
A strong mountain wind blew in from the north, stirring up the slag on the ground and making a soft, rustling sound as it hit the rock face.
Kahn and Ninia both looked at Alsace.
"What's so special about that body?"
"That is the body of a hero. The Samigina Order wants to use his body as a vessel."
Ninia looked up at the northern horizon, where the snow-covered mountains gleamed a pale white in the twilight.
How many of you are there?
"Right now, it's just Kahn, me, and one other elf waiting at the Sunwell."
"Lack of treatment?"
"We don't lack anything."
"So we're still missing one output?"
"right."
"Okay, I'll go with you guys. I'll find the other DPS, okay?"
"Can."
