I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!
Chapter 86: A Perverse Interest
Groom's face swelled up at a visible speed, as if he had been stung by dozens of wasps at the same time. His left eye was squeezed into a slit, his right eye could barely open halfway, his lips were swollen like two sausages, and his voice was distorted.
"Poison, poison fog! The skeleton is dead! Spray, spray poison fog! The person who designed this floor is a fucking bastard..."
"Genius," Arthas said again.
Liz rummaged through her backpack and took out an antidote, handing it to Grum and a small mirror as well.
Groom saw himself in the mirror, silently put the mirror face down on the ground, tilted his head back, and drank the antidote.
The swelling had subsided somewhat, but his expression remained ferocious.
"Continue." Kahn's voice remained steady, but Arthas noticed that before speaking, he scanned the ceiling, floor, and walls on both sides, his gaze lingering for at least a moment on every possible hiding place.
Over the next half hour, the Cangmang Squad sacrificed more than a dozen lives to gain a preliminary understanding of this corridor.
Arthas was also killed once, falling into a series of traps. First, the floor collapsed, then a huge iron hammer fell on his head, leaving him no time to dodge.
Next came the skeletons that exploded upon death, but fortunately, the Cangmang Squad's level was high enough that they didn't cause too much damage.
Just when everyone thought it was safe, its skeleton automatically reassembled and stood up, stabbing Milo, who was walking at the very back, through the back.
When Milo reappeared at the respawn point, his expression was no longer one of fear, but rather one of numbness from repeated torment.
"It's playing dead! The skeleton is playing dead..."
"No, it's really dead," Arthas corrected. "It just died and then automatically resurrected."
How do you know all this so clearly?!
"Just a guess."
After much difficulty, the group finally caught a glimpse of the BOSS room, where more and more combination traps began to appear.
Stepping on the stone slab will trigger a volley of crossbow bolts on the wall. The bolts are coated with paralyzing poison, and once hit, the person cannot move. Three seconds is just enough time for the spiked board on the ceiling to fall.
Groom, who was walking at the front, died twice in the same combination trap. The first time, he was paralyzed by a crossbow bolt and then crushed to death by a spiked board. The second time, he was smarter. After dodging the crossbow bolt, he took two steps forward triumphantly, but then stepped on the crossbow bolt again, triggering the second trap behind it. He fell into the pit and was impaled by the rusty iron spikes standing at the bottom of the pit.
That's so disgusting...
Alsace smiled with satisfaction.
The brand-new fifteenth floor is far more interesting than you can imagine.
It wasn't just the Cangmang Squad; cries of agony and curses echoed around them—this was precisely the soul system he was pursuing.
When Groom ran back from the respawn point, his face was black, half a skull finger bone from the acid pool was still hanging on his shield, and a small piece of the blade of his battle axe was chipped off.
He walked to the end of the line and said in a calm tone, like the calm before a volcanic eruption, "I'm going to go up and see what that demon king looks like! Just don't let me run into him."
"You can't touch it," Arthas said.
How did you know?
Arthas didn't answer, but simply tilted his chin slightly forward. "We've arrived at the boss room. Why don't you vent your anger on the boss?"
The door to the BOSS room has appeared at the end of the corridor.
It was a door forged from countless broken swords, each blade engraved with different runes—holy light, shadow, fire, frost—like spoils of war seized from countless defeated warriors, one by one embedded into the door, forming the last line of defense for the undead prison.
Several large characters were carved on the gateposts on both sides.
The defeated forge my gate.
Those who enter will be left with their swords but not their lives.
The five people stepped through the gate one after another.
There are no torches in the BOSS room.
The only light source came from the four gargoyle statues crouching at the corners, each holding a ball of eerie green flame in its mouth. The flames burned silently, making the entire hall look like the ruins of a palace submerged at the bottom of the sea.
Rusty iron chains hung around the perimeter, with iron cages of varying sizes dangling from the ends of the chains, each cage empty.
In the center of the hall.
The Death Knight sat enthroned on his throne.
It was completely different from the one Alsace had last seen.
The rust on the black armor had been completely removed, replaced by a dark silver sheen, but every old scar was still clearly visible.
The skeleton knight stands to the left of the throne, holding a tower shield with undead runes engraved on its surface, while the dark knight stands to the right of the throne, wielding a sword taller than a man.
The Death Knight's helmet turned slightly, and the eerie green flames in his eyes swept over the five men one by one, finally landing on Kahn and pausing for a moment.
Three Knights?!
Kahn didn't expect the boss battle to be different from the intelligence.
"Adventurers," the Death Knight's voice echoed uniquely, "you are the seventeenth party to arrive here. Many swords were left outside the gate. What about you?"
"We have no swords!"
Groom held his battle axe horizontally in front of him.
The Death Knight charged forward, its figure covering more than half the distance of the BOSS room in an instant. Its greatsword swept across, the wind from the sword causing the iron cages on both sides to shake violently, and the iron chains clanged together, producing a dense metallic clanging sound.
Groom raised his shield to take the blow, the greatsword slamming into the shield, his feet sliding half a foot backward on the ground, leaving a deep dent in the shield's surface.
"That's intense!" Groom shouted through gritted teeth.
The Skeleton Knight cut in from the left, its tower shield crashing straight into Kahn, blocking the route that could reinforce Groom. Almost simultaneously, the Dark Knight's saber slashed down from the upper right, the dark purple mist on the blade solidifying during the slash, transforming into several slender shadow tentacles that spread toward Liz and Milo.
The Death Knight's greatsword pressed down on Groom's shield, inch by inch, while the Skeleton Knight's tower shield blocked Karn's movement. Meanwhile, the Dark Knight's shadow tentacles wrapped around Milo's staff, spreading along the staff towards his fingers.
The three monsters worked together seamlessly, like three arms controlled by the same brain.
Groom was the first to strike.
He charged forward against the pressure of the greatsword, his shield sliding diagonally upwards along the blade, sparking a trail of blinding sparks, before crashing into the Death Knight's arms.
The charge was so powerful that it knocked the Death Knight back half a step, causing cracks to appear in the greatsword's forging.
Kahn slammed his left palm heavily on the edge of the Skeleton Knight's shield, unleashing a burst of power that caused the shield to deflect at a tiny angle. In that mere few inches of deflection, the spear of holy light gathered in his other hand pierced through the gap, penetrating the Skeleton Knight and pinning him to the side of the throne.
Arthas emerged from behind Cain, his holy silver longsword drawing a pale golden arc in the air before its tip pierced the seam between the skeleton knight's helmet and breastplate. With a flick of his wrist, the eerie green flames were extinguished.
The first elite monster fell to the ground.
The Dark Knight's sword was still suppressing Liz and Milo. The shadow tentacles had already wrapped around Milo's wrist, his staff was pulled out of his hand, and he was dragged towards the Dark Knight by the tentacles.
Without the slightest hesitation, Liz abandoned her aim at the Dark Knight's main body and instead fired three arrows in quick succession. Each arrow precisely struck the base of the same shadow tentacle, and the third arrow pierced right through the tentacle, snapping it in two.
Milo fell to the ground, but the moment his hands were freed, he grabbed his staff again. The earthen wall rose up from the ground, knocking the Dark Knight off balance from directly below.
The trajectory of the cleaver's slash went astray.
With his hands free, Kahn unleashed the Holy Light Spear a second time, piercing the Dark Knight's arms from the side and pinning him to the wall.
Arthas's longsword followed closely, its tip piercing the eye socket. With a flick of his wrist, the second elite monster fell to the ground.
The Death Knight instantly lost both hands, but it did not retreat. It raised its greatsword high above its head, and shadows and holy light ignited on the blade at the same time, the two attributes tearing at each other on the blade.
Kahn's pupils contracted. This move was almost identical to his Holy Light Judgment, but seemed faster and more lethal.
"Grum!" Kahn hissed.
Groom understood immediately, raising his shield abruptly and shrinking behind it, a pale blue light barrier appearing before everyone; Kahn slapped Groom on the back of the shoulder, holy light pouring into the shield and condensing into a second layer of light shield in front of it.
The double shields were struck by the chaotic orb almost the instant they were formed. The shields exploded into a shower of golden fragments, and everyone was shaken, but the defense line remained intact.
Liz's armor-piercing arrow shot out from the gap, precisely embedding itself in the old scar on the Death Knight's right shoulder joint—the deepest sword wound ever inflicted by countless adventurers, struck in the same spot again after many years.
Milo's earth spikes rose from the ground, wedged its left leg, and pinned it in place.
Arthas gripped the holy silver longsword with both hands, the holy light on the blade drawing a dazzling arc as it precisely cut into the texture of the old scar.

The sword tip pierced through the breastplate and emerged from the back.
The Death Knight's greatsword slipped from his hand, and his body turned into black powder, dissipating into the air.
The treasure chest slowly rose from behind the throne, the lid popped open automatically, and golden light illuminated the hall as if it were daytime.
