I am the Demon King of the Dungeon!
Chapter 94: The Monster Guild's Complaint
Dark Hemkas, Throne Room.
Dracula sat at the end of the long table, with three documents spread out in front of him. On his left was the monthly operations report, on his right was the additional budget application for the renovation of the fifteenth floor, and in the middle of the document, he unusually took off his gold-rimmed glasses and gently rubbed the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger.
That was a complaint letter...
It wasn't a complaint from an adventurer; Dracula received dozens of those every month, all sorts of trivial matters, which he could easily skim through and process quickly. But this one was different.
The letter was sealed with a dark red wax stamp bearing the design of a claw bound by chains—the official seal of the Monster Guild.
The recipient on the envelope read: "To Arthas Dick Illidan, the Dark Lord of Hemkas."
The sender was from: "Monster Guild, Monster Rights Protection Committee, Southern Joint Complaint Office".
Dracula opened the letter and pulled out the inner pages.
The letter was on specially made parchment with dark gold wavy lines embossed along the edges. The handwriting was very neat. He put his gold-rimmed glasses back on and began reading from the beginning.
To Arthas Dick Illidan, the Dark Lord of Hemkars:
"The Monster Guild Monster Rights Protection Committee (hereinafter referred to as 'the Committee') recently received a formal complaint regarding your Demon Lord's abnormal actions of using the identity of 'Adventurer' to conduct unauthorized raids on the two excellent dungeons, Blackrock Mountain Prison and Ironjaw Fortress."
"Following investigation and verification, the details of the complaint and the proposed handling are hereby notified as follows:"
Dracula took a deep breath and turned to the next page.
"Complaint 1: Lord Omeric, the Demon King of Blackrock Mountain Prison, accuses you of breaking into Blackrock Mountain Prison on a certain day this month and launching a one-sided, overwhelming attack on Lord Omeric and his guards without any prior warning or proof of your Demon King status."
"The complainant points out that King Omeric had already stated that he was 'willing to hand over all the supplies in the warehouse' and 'declared his surrender,' but was still killed by your Demon Lord."
Dracula's pen paused on the paper.
He turned to the next page.
"Complaint 2: The Bloodfang Werewolf Demon Lord of Ironjaw Fortress alleges that on a certain afternoon, your Demon Lord broke into Ironjaw Fortress, used a fireball spell to intimidate the guards outside the main gate and demanded to know the location of the key, and then attacked the plaza, dungeon, and altar from the main gate. The complainant specifically emphasizes that your Demon Lord indiscriminately killed werewolf recruits in the plaza."
"This includes three trainee werewolves who just joined this month. They have not yet completed basic combat training and, according to Article 17 of Chapter 3 of the Monster Guild's 'Regulations on the Protection of Underage Monsters,' should be considered 'non-combat personnel.'"
Dracula took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"Complaint 3: Seven guards from Blackrock Mountain Prison and twelve werewolves from Ironjaw Fortress jointly accuse your Demon Lord of the following misconduct during the raid: First, using shapeshifting magic to disguise himself as a human adventurer, making it impossible for the attacked party to identify his true identity in advance and take appropriate action; Second, failing to submit the raid record to the Monster Guild for filing after the raid was completed, resulting in an irreparable gap in the operational data of the two dungeons."
"Additional notes: Due to King Omorik's physical and mental trauma, Blackrock Mountain Prison has come to a standstill, the werewolves of Ironjaw Fortress are on strike, and the deputy leader has submitted his resignation to the Monster Guild today, citing 'psychological trauma' as the reason."
Dracula turned to the last page.
"Handling Recommendation: In view of the above facts, this committee makes the following ruling: First, Arthas Dick Illidan, the Dark Lord of Hemkas, is ordered to submit a written explanation to the Monster Guild within ten working days of receiving this letter, detailing his reasons and purposes for undertaking the raid as an adventurer;"
"Secondly, your Demon Lord must pay compensation to King Omorik and the Bloodfang Werewolf, according to the highest level stipulated in the 'Monster Work Injury Compensation Regulations';"
"Third, your Lord Demon Lord shall bear the cost of repairing the two dungeons, including but not limited to: the reforging of the Iron Throne in Blackrock Mountain Prison, the repair of the damaged Rib Arch at the main entrance of Ironjaw Fortress, and the replacement of the altar floor tiles (Note: the floor tiles were burned with irreparable cracks by hellfire);"
"Fourth, this committee will temporarily suspend your Demon Lord's credit rating within the Monster Guild, pending the completion of the investigation. If you have any objections, please submit a written appeal to the Monster Guild Appeals Committee within five business days of receiving this letter. Failure to respond within the time limit will be deemed as acceptance of the above decision."
Dracula gently placed the complaint letter on the table, picked up the black tea beside him and took a sip. The tea was gone, but he needed this action to gather his thoughts.
He put his gold-rimmed glasses back on, took out a blank parchment from the drawer, and began to draft a reply.
Halfway through writing, the pen hovered in mid-air, feeling that the wording wasn't quite right, after all, this reply would ultimately have to be reviewed by the Demon King himself...
wrong……
Given the Demon Lord's current schedule, he probably won't have time to look at it, so the wording must respect the Demon Lord's position while not provoking the bureaucrats of the Monster Guild.
Dracula crumpled up the parchment he had just written a few lines on, threw it into the wastebasket, and laid out a new one.
"Dear Monster Rights Protection Committee: Regarding the complaints mentioned in your letter, I, the King—"
No, that's not right.
He crumpled up another sheet.
"To the Committee: The following is our reply: I. Regarding King Omeric..."
It's too stiff.
Dracula frowned slightly, lost in thought.
……
The 22nd floor, the safe zone.
Ding!
[Captain: Sebastian Steelwrist is dead!]
Adventurer Party: Silverwing
Overall rating: B-
[Brief Comment: The entire team was wiped out after the third phase of Whisper of the Bones, due to poor coordination and insufficient damage.]
Fear level +2000
The Silverwing Squad failed to pass the twenty-first floor.
That solid team, known for its tank core, couldn't survive the third phase against the Bone Whisper.
Arthas was not surprised. After all, every second of the undead realm of the Bone Whisperers was extremely precious to any team. Although Silverwing had the mechanical creations of the Engineer and the single-target burst of the Assassin, it still could not make up for the output gap between the two tanks. It was only a matter of time before they were dragged down to their deaths.
An Ruiwei placed the communication ring back on the table, her gaze sweeping over everyone present in the cave. She had already concisely reported the news of Silverwing's complete annihilation, without any unnecessary regret or useless encouragement.
Sebastian, Liliana, Tibit, Groot, and Fran have all been resurrected at the temple, but their mental condition still needs to be assessed, so they will not be able to rejoin the team in the short term.
"Now it's just the three of us left," An Ruiwei said, placing her hands on the edge of the stone table and looking down at the spread-out cross-section. "The Oracle Squad will handle the twenty-second floor. If we can win, we will; if we can't, at least we should bring back some intelligence."
Logan Ironhammer hoisted his giant hammer and grinned, "We were the only ones who could handle this. I never expected Silverwing to be driven back by Bone Whispers. Sebastian has really embarrassed himself."
Sylvia Windwhisper leaned against the wall, her long silver hair tied into a neat ponytail, and her longbow slung across her back.
Richie Cage was discussing magic with Milo and wasn't listening to Anne Riviera at all.
Avira Stormwind summoned a sapling, which ran into the hot spring, instantly emitting a soft green light.
Alicia Fording stood up from the stone bench and walked toward Anriwei; their eyes met briefly.
"Oracle Squad, all members in position. We'll take down the BOSS in just three hours."
"Don't be reckless." An Ruiwei looked at her sister and nodded. "If you can't beat them, use the Return Stone, understand?"
"I know." Alicia walked steadily toward the cave entrance, her long golden hair swaying gently behind her.
Arthas was very much looking forward to it; he was eager to see how the Oracle Squad would deal with that "battle bull."
