Wizard: I Have a World of the Dead
033: Your Excellency... has already been promoted to Knight?
The assassin stepped over the body of the guard and headed straight for Count Vinhart.
His steps did not falter at all, and blood droplets continued to drip from his short sword, leaving a trail of dark red dots on the stone floor.
Another guard standing outside the reception area was clearly startled.
He stood there, his hand gripping the sword hilt frozen, his eyes wide open, as if stunned by this sudden turn of events.
But it was only for a moment.
Those who could serve as the Earl's personal guards were all selected from among the many apprentice knights in the territory.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, the guard immediately drew his cross-shaped sword, shouted, and charged forward.
His movements were not slow, and his swordsmanship was methodical; every slash and thrust showed signs of training. The blade drew several arcs in the candlelight, blocking the assassin's path.
But the assassin's sword was faster!
The short sword seemed to have grown an arm in his hand, and every swing was a deadly move, each strike aimed straight for a vital point.
Three rounds!
In just three rounds, the guard's longsword was knocked away, and a short sword pierced his chest. He groaned and fell down, twitching twice before stopping.
"A... a knight!" someone cried out, the sharp voice piercing the noise of the banquet hall.
"He's a knight-level assassin!"
The banquet hall erupted in chaos. Exclamations, screams, and the sounds of tables and chairs overturning mingled together, like a pot of boiling water overflowing.
The crystal chandelier swayed overhead, and the candlelight danced wildly on the floor, casting flickering light on and off the terrified faces.
The ladies lifted their skirts and ran towards the door, while some men blocked their wives and daughters, some rushed out after them, and others crawled under the table.
Wine glasses and plates were knocked to the ground, and wine and food were splashed on fine clothes; no one cared about appearances anymore.
It all happened in the blink of an eye. The assassin flicked the blood off his short sword and, without pausing, continued straight toward the Earl.
Count Vinhart's expression changed slightly, and he stood up.
His body moved before his mind; instinctively, he spread his feet apart, lowered his center of gravity, and assumed a defensive stance.
But he hadn't really fought in decades, and his strength had long since been wasted.
Faced with a surprise attack from a formal knight, a hint of panic was still clearly visible on his wrinkled face.
Ten steps...
Five steps...
Three steps!
In the blink of an eye, the assassin's short sword had already pierced within three steps. The flame on the candlestick was violently shaken by the wind from the sword, and the count's pupils reflected the approaching cold light.
Just then, suddenly—
With a "whoosh".
A splash of red liquor was thrown at the assassin.
It was Lin Qi sitting next to me.
He remained calm in the face of the assassin's sudden attack. He simply picked up the wine glass on the table, flicked his wrist, and spilled the wine.
The dark red liquid spread through the air like a net, enveloping the assassin.
At the same instant, the wine glass flew out of his hand, spinning as it smashed over.
The assassin instinctively swung his sword to parry, and with a "crack," the wine glass was cleaved in two by the short sword.
But his steps were momentarily halted by the sudden attack.
Just a moment.
But in that instant, Lin Qi grabbed the silver candlestick from the table, leaped off the sofa, and charged straight at it.
The power of a knight-level warrior erupted without reservation at this moment.
His body moved like a pouncing beast, leaping over the coffee table. The candlestick traced an arc in his hand, whistling through the air, before slamming it down hard on the assassin.
"when--!"
The sharp clang of metal clashing exploded in the room, making everyone's eardrums ache. The assassin nearly dropped his dagger; the shock jolted his wrist, and he staggered half a step.
A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. He clearly hadn't expected the young nobleman sitting opposite the count to possess such speed and strength.
Lin Qi gave him no chance to catch his breath.
The candlestick twirled in his hand like a long sword, aimed straight at the assassin's throat.
The assassin dodged to the side, the candlestick grazing his neck and drawing blood, which then slid down the silver candlestick.
An angry look appeared on the assassin's face. He swung his sword backhand, the short sword slashing towards Lin Qi's neck. The sword was fast and ruthless, aimed directly at the vulnerable part of the body, clearly intended to force him to dodge.
However, Lin Qi advanced instead of retreating. He raised his left arm and used the outside of his forearm to block the sword.
"when!"
The sound of metal clanging rang out again, like a hammer striking an anvil.
The short sword sliced through Lin Qi's sleeve, scattering pieces of cloth, but it didn't harm him in the slightest. The blade struck his forearm as if it had hit a metal plate, leaving not even a mark.
The assassin's pupils contracted sharply.
He couldn't understand what was going on. His short sword was made of fine steel, strong enough to cleave through ordinary chainmail, so how could it not even scratch this person's skin?
Before the assassin could figure out what was going on, a sharp whooshing sound rang out.
Lin Qi lifted the candlestick in his right hand from bottom to top, and the pointed end plunged hard into the assassin's neck.
The tip of the candlestick, like an awl, pierced the assassin's side of the neck, and blood gushed from the wound.
"Ah!" the assassin screamed, clutching his neck and staggering backward. He swung his short sword haphazardly a few times, but missed nothing.
Lin Qi stepped forward and kicked out.
Berserk - Power Surge!
His right leg, like an iron pillar, slammed into the assassin's chest.
"Click"
With a crisp crack, the sound of ribs breaking was clearly audible. The assassin's body flew straight out like a kite with a broken string, crashing into several tables before coming to a stop.
The assassin struggled to his feet, clutching his bleeding neck, his eyes filled with shock and rage.
He looked at Lin Qi as if he were looking at a monster.
at the same time--
"Protect the Earl!"
"Protect the Earl!"
The knights and guards who were waiting outside rushed in, their swords and shields forming a wall.
Seeing that there was no chance left, the assassin looked past the swords and blades and glared at Lin Qi with resentment.
Then he turned and ran down a corridor, quickly disappearing into the darkness.
Soon, the banquet hall was placed under martial law.
The entrance was blocked by guards, and no one was allowed to leave.
The servants held torches to illuminate every corner; some were checking windows, some were searching the corridors, and some were questioning every guest.
After a while of chaos, Captain Gilles, the guard captain, finally arrived quickly with a few men.
He was dragging a corpse in his hand; it was the assassin who had just escaped.
Knight Gilles tossed the body to the ground: "That guy was fast. Luckily he was injured. We followed the trail of blood and found him in the hallway behind the kitchen. It took three of us to subdue him."
The count looked down at the corpse on the ground. His face was no longer panicked, but rather very gloomy.
He nodded slightly, then raised his head and looked at Lin Qi.
Following the Earl's gaze, everyone in the hall focused their attention on Lin Qi at that moment.
Lady, gentleman, nobleman, guard, and even waiter.
It seemed as if the eyes of everyone in the entire Southern Territory were fixed on Lin Qi at that moment.
The entire banquet hall was quiet.
No one spoke.
Everyone seemed to be waiting for something.
After a long silence, the count spoke.
He first expressed his gratitude to Lynch: "Your Excellency, thank you for what you did earlier."
Lin Qi nodded slightly, still as nonchalant as ever: "It was nothing."
The count gave him a deep look.
Now he finally understood where Lin Qi's confidence came from.
Nevertheless, after a brief silence, he still asked the question that everyone was waiting for.
The count asked, "Your Excellency, Baron... you've already been promoted to knight?"
The entire banquet hall seemed to hold its breath at that moment.
You could hear a pin drop.
Lin Qi nodded casually, his voice calm and understated, as if answering a trivial question:
"Yes."
It was just a simple answer, but the next moment...
The entire banquet hall instantly erupted in cheers!
