Wizard: I Have a World of the Dead
069: Poseidon Festival
A few days later, it was the Sea God Festival.
The grandest celebration in Ouge Port every summer begins on this day.
On this day, the streets were lined with blue and white flags, each embroidered with a trident emblem. The flags fluttered in the sea breeze, like rows of ships raising their sails.
The shop windows were filled with ocean-related decorations: seashells, ship models, coral branches, and even the bakery baked fish-shaped bread.
People come and go on the street.
The men wore their best coats, and the women held parasols, like moving flowers. Children weaved through the crowd, their faces painted with blue wave patterns.
A musician was playing the accordion on the street corner. The reeds of the accordion opened and closed, producing a cheerful tune with a harbor feel.
Lynch came out of the library and walked with Jenny Jeffrey along the main street toward the manor.
Although he had already determined his future direction and goals, Lin Qi still did not intend to simply give up his noble status.
After all, the wizarding world is still a completely unfamiliar place to him.
What are the rules and order of that world like? Is it dangerous? These are all unknown to him at the moment.
With his noble status, he was always able to maintain a secure escape route.
"Ah! Just thinking about seeing the legendary Sword of Valen soon has kept me up all night!" Jenny exclaimed excitedly, gesturing wildly.
"Ah—just thinking about the way he looks at me makes me..."
She dressed up specially today, having her mother make her a dress, applying a thin layer of makeup to her face, and wearing a bunch of pearl earrings.
"Alright, alright," Jeffrey said sourly from the side. "They don't even know who you are, what kind of one-man show are you putting on?"
Jenny rolled her eyes: "Shut up! No one will think you're mute if you don't speak!"
The two exchanged a few more words, and Lin Qi smiled and shook his head, not interrupting.
After crossing the main street and turning onto a wide, tree-lined avenue, a manor came into view.
The manor gate was made of iron, and each of the gateposts was adorned with a stone sculpture of a sea god holding a trident and standing on surging waves.
The gate was wide open, with uniformed servants standing on either side, swords at their waists and blue feathers tucked into their hat brims.
This is Shell Estate, the Lanchester family's estate, where the banquet will be held.
After crossing the lawn of the manor, Lin Qi and his two companions arrived at the main building of the manor and were about to go in when a voice came from behind them.
"Yo—Jenny!"
Several people walked over from the fountain pool next to them.
Leading the way was Hawke from the library, accompanied by three or four elegantly dressed young people who, judging from the insignia on their clothes and their demeanor, should all be members of the city's nobility.
Approaching her, Hawke crossed his arms and looked Jenny up and down, adopting a condescending tone as he said, "What are you wearing? Is this fabric... linen?"
Jenny frowned slightly, too lazy to pay him any attention: "What's it to you?"
"Don't be so temperamental!"
Hawke said in a friendly tone, then stepped aside to make way for a young man in a dark red tuxedo next to him.
He introduced, "This is young Herbert Fernandez, he would like to get to know you."
He paused, then added, "Viscount Fernandin is his uncle."
Upon hearing this, Jenny immediately understood that this was clearly a pimping operation.
Her face immediately darkened: "Not interested."
The young man named Herbert frowned, looking somewhat displeased.
Hawke's expression stiffened, and his voice turned somewhat somber: "Jenny, I'm just asking you to come over for a drink, I'm not going to do anything to you. We're all classmates, you should at least give me some face, right?"
Jenny said, "Why should I give you face? Who do you think you are?"
The air suddenly became quiet for a moment.
The young men around Hawke let out a very soft sneer.
Hawke's face turned from white to red, then from red to purple, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, its fur standing on end.
"You—" his voice rose eight octaves, "You're just a tailor's daughter, don't be so ungrateful!"
Jenny sneered and retorted without backing down, "So what if you're a tailor's daughter? You talk as if you were born into some noble family. Everyone knows your family sells shoes."
She paused for a moment, then cut to the chase: "If it weren't for your uncle, you'd probably still be shining shoes for someone right now."
That was a real blow.
"Ha ha!"
"That's an interesting statement."
The young people gathered around Hawke laughed and joked, some even subconsciously putting some distance between themselves and him.
Hawke's face darkened further, and his voice became shrill: "My uncle is the financial adjutant of Ouge Port, Viscount Fernandez's right-hand man, just one step away from becoming a nobleman!"
"And you—you commoners—can only ever look up to them your whole lives!"
Lynch reached out and tugged at Jenny's sleeve, whispering, "Let's go, ignore him."
It's a holiday, don't ruin the mood. Just give an order to deal with this minor character later.
But Hawke clearly wasn't going to let it go. He stepped forward, blocking Jenny's path.
His facial muscles twitched slightly, and his eyes were bloodshot, like a mouse cornered against a wall. "I told you," he said.
His voice was low and suppressed, "You have to drink this glass of wine today, whether you like it or not."
Lynch frowned.
He stopped, turned around, and glanced at the group of minor nobles following Hawke, subtly releasing a wisp of his spiritual energy.
Psychological deterrence.
He said slowly, "You lot, don't make a fool of yourselves."
With the combined effect of his superior aura and his intimidating presence, the minor nobles felt a sudden chill run down their spines as his gaze swept over them.
Some people instinctively took a step back, while others coughed and looked away.
But then I thought about it again and realized that wasn't right.
What kind of occasion is this? What are their identities? If they're intimidated by a commoner, how will they survive in this circle after word gets out?
So they all turned their attention to Hawke and put pressure on him.
Hawke understood immediately.
He immediately pointed at Lin Qi and started yelling insults, "Who do you think you are! Who gave you the right to interrupt? Just because you have a little talent doesn't mean you're so great!"
"What's the point of learning things quickly! All that knowledge just leaves you holed up in the library, utterly useless!"
He said coldly, "Let me tell you, in this Ouge Port, with just one word from me, you'll be stuck in the library for the rest of your life, and you'll never get ahead!"
Just then, a carriage that had entered the manor stopped not far away, the door opened, and a group of people filed out.
These were the elite of Ougon, led by Viscount Fernandez, the treasurer of Ougon.
As luck would have it, Hawke's uncle, who was the financial adjutant, was also among them.
Hawke's eyes lit up, and he immediately headed in that direction, straightening his collar as he went, trying to make himself look presentable.
He strode over to the viscount, bowed respectfully, then pointed towards the manor gate and whispered a few words to one of the middle-aged men, who was his uncle in power.
The minor nobles who had just dispersed also gathered around to pay their respects to their elders, adding their own embellishments.
After listening to what they said, the nobles casually glanced in the direction of Lin Qi and his group, including Viscount Fernandin.
But in just a moment, the viscount's body jolted violently, as if he had been struck by something.
He quickened his pace, almost jogging, as he approached Lynch.
The lesser nobles behind them wore expressions of smugness and mockery, and they all followed, ready to watch the show.
Hawke, the instigator, was even more jubilant. His expression changed from fawning to arrogance, and then from arrogance to a malicious anticipation of watching the show.
Jenny and Jeffrey also tensed up, their faces turning pale and their eyes filled with panic.
Any one of them here is someone they can't afford to mess with.
"Lord Viscount..."
Jenny opened her mouth, trying to explain.
However, the Viscount completely ignored her. He simply walked straight up to Lynch and stopped three steps away from him, which was the standard social distance between nobles.
The expected blame and punishment did not occur.
This was a highly respected figure in the eyes of Jenny Jeffrey and others, representing the elite at the very top of Ouge Port.
He stood up straight, his hands hanging at his sides, and bowed slightly, performing a standard aristocratic salute with utmost care.
"You've arrived?" His voice carried a cautious, almost ingratiating warmth.
The entrance to the manor fell silent instantly.
