America: Child stars start with The Shining

Chapter 10 Apple's Television Commercials

Charles was taken aback. Wait a minute, is this considered a small company?

This is an apple!

Was he blind, or was Ovitz blind? Or is it just an ordinary company with the same name?

He looked down at the information again and finally confirmed that it was indeed the famous Apple Company of later generations.

However, it has not yet found the right direction for development and is struggling in the highly competitive computer manufacturing industry.

Charles spoke to Ovitz almost without hesitation:

"This is it."

When Ovitz heard this, he almost stumbled. He was just about to pour himself a cup of hot water to wait for the other person to take their time choosing when the guy finished.

He frowned, took the documents from Charles's hand, and hesitated before saying:

"Are you sure? This is the lowest price they've offered. I think you should definitely consider it..."

"No, Ovitz, I've looked at everything carefully and I've already made up my mind."

Charles stood up, his tone resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.

Low price? You're kidding! He'd be happy to go and photograph this guy for free!

......

Early the next morning, Charles was taken by Ovitz to an unfamiliar city in Santa Clara, California.

Los Altos.

He sat in the back seat of that beat-up Ford, yawning, his hair a little messy, looking like he hadn't fully woken up yet.

I spent another night in this guy's car yesterday. I should have gone back to the film set first. At least I could have stayed in a hotel arranged by the crew and wouldn't have been woken up by the cold in the middle of the night.

Damn it, I should have betrayed them and gone to WMA. They're a big company where everyone gets a nanny car, unlike Ovitz, who drives a beat-up Ford to pick up his artists.

"What kind of hellhole is this? Why is it so remote? The gas money for the round trip is enough to buy me several bottles of good wine! Hey, Charles, we're almost there."

Ovitz complained as he surveyed the surrounding road conditions.

Charles looked out the window and realized that they had unknowingly driven into a remote town, where the streets were gradually becoming empty.

Soon, he saw a house with an open garage next to it.

His gaze suddenly stopped.

Above the garage, a striking sign stands out: a colorful apple with a bite taken out of it.

This is the birthplace of Apple, the garage that Steve Jobs rented, where their TV show, Game of Thrones, will be filmed.

The garage was very basic and somewhat cramped. Charles glanced at it and saw that some basic photography equipment had been moved in and was haphazardly piled up at the garage entrance.

In 1979, Apple was just starting out and had not yet grown into the multinational behemoth it would become. It was even struggling to make ends meet, so its budget for televisions was naturally very limited.

Therefore, they decided not to rent a studio and instead planned to complete all the filming in this garage.

Ovitz was naturally not satisfied with this perfunctory approach. He originally wanted to argue with the company and try to get them to change to a proper filming location, but Charles stopped him.

Please, this is the most important starting point on Apple's road to wealth! If he were lucky enough to film GG here, he'd probably be laughing in his sleep!

Ovitz pulled the car over to the side of the road, glanced at the rearview mirror, and asked:

"Are you sure you really want to take this job? The pay they're offering isn't great, and it's going to be filmed in a weird place like a garage. If you back out now..."

Charles sighed helplessly, interrupting the other person, and explained:

"Ovitz, I've said it so many times... well, these upstart tech companies have some weird quirks. They like to hole up in places like garages. If you put them in a photo studio... they definitely wouldn't be happy! Yes, that's right."

As he continued, he himself ran out of fabrications.

In reality, Charles certainly knew that Apple was definitely saving costs by doing this, but he couldn't very well tell Ovitz that although making this GG wouldn't make much money now, it would definitely make a fortune in the future, could he?

Ovitz leaned back in his chair, feeling a bit of a headache. He really couldn't understand why Charles insisted on taking on this GG.

He had given him several documents yesterday, but this kid picked Apple at first glance, without giving him any chance to discuss it, his attitude was very firm.

Does this name possess some strange magic?

It sounds like a fruit shop, not very reliable, and the prices aren't very high. Do kids like these kinds of unconventional things?

Suddenly, as if he had just remembered something, Ovitz spoke up:

"By the way, speaking of garages, there was a tech company whose market value skyrocketed a while ago, and it seems they also started out in one of those places, what was it called again..."

"Microsoft! Right?"

Charles promptly reminded the other party.

"Yes, that's it... Perhaps you're right? A garage might indeed hold some very important symbolic meaning for them."

"Forget it, there's no need to dwell on this. We're already here. Leave the rest to me, and I'll try my best to get you some compensation."

The two of them got out of the car and went into the garage.

Charles's heart suddenly raced, and his gaze darted around as if searching for something.

Damn, he wasn't even as excited when he met Kubrick as he is now!

Just then, a young man wearing a black turtleneck sweater waved to them.

He had slightly messy long hair, sunken eye sockets, and very obvious dark circles under his eyes, making him look like he had just stayed up all night.

Charles's eyes lit up. The man walked over, shook hands with Ovitz, and said:

"Welcome, my name is Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Inc., and I will be in charge of today's GG shoot."

"Well, although this place looks a bit... dirty and messy, don't worry, I'll clean it up right away."

After saying that, he scratched his head somewhat embarrassedly.

The company is currently in an expansion phase, and the release of the Apple II has finally received positive feedback from the market. He must be careful with his money and rationally plan how to use every penny.

Therefore, we can only make do in the garage; we'll save money wherever it's not necessary.

Charles stepped forward, grasped Jobs' hand firmly, and said eagerly:

"Hello, my name is Ciel, uh, I'm a child star."

He looked at the other man with a bright and energetic expression. This future Steve Jobs still had a full head of hair, a stark contrast to his later iconic bald look.

He even has an urge to immediately pull out tens of millions of dollars and hand them to Jobs, urging him to quickly develop the iPhone.

Of course, this is obviously impossible.

Jobs paused, seemingly amused by Charles's precocious demeanor, and subconsciously adjusted his glasses before saying:

"Hello, little one, you don't seem nervous at all. If that's the case, our shoot today should go very smoothly."

Charles's gaze followed the other person's movements and landed on the pair of gleaming glasses.

【Name: Ordinary Round Rimless Glasses (Legend)】

After just one glance, Charles was suddenly stunned.
