Chapter 6 The First Formidable Pass in the East China Sea
"These 30 jin of oranges were just picked; they're good for getting more vitamins while they're out here."
"Bring this smoked blackfish too, we can have it as a midnight snack if we get hungry in the middle of the night."
"Don't always drink cola when you're out; try these 5 cans of orange juice..."
In Sith's bedroom, the enormous suitcase groaned under its weight as Bellemere continued to stuff things into it.
Seeing that the box was about to burst, Sith quickly stopped.
"That's enough! I'm just going on a short-term mission!"
Bellemere always packed his luggage to the brim, even though he wasn't going to the Aotai Line.
Sis quickly zipped up the suitcase, picked it up, and ran.
"I'll be back soon!"
In the blink of an eye, his voice was already a hundred meters away.
"You brat, you used to pester me for food every day when you were little."
Bellemere, hands on hips, muttered a few words, then silently wiped her reddened eyes.
"Where are you, Sith?!"
Nami skipped over, but her face fell when she saw that Sith was gone.
She also drew a "marriage certificate" like Nojiko, and carefully pasted a photo on it, intending to show it to Sith.
A few hours later.
A medium-sized warship cut through the waves, followed by a huge three-masted sailing ship with ornate and intricate carvings on its hull and a gilded bald eagle head at its prow, clearly worth a fortune.
Sith stood on the deck of the warship, silently recalling the details of the mission.
Their mission was simple: to escort a group of nobles from the Kingdom of Aka to visit the 13th Branch of the East Sea.
Sith didn't know why these nobles were interested in the Navy branch, but they specifically requested two people to escort them, especially Sith, since he had recently helped Garp capture a great pirate and had become famous in the East Blue.
The Kingdom of Aka is a leading power in the East China Sea, and it pays a considerable amount of celestial gold every year. Naturally, this small request was agreed to by the naval high command.
Sith was initially unwilling, but the mission reward was a full 100 million, and it was 100 million each for him and Tina.
What else is there to say? We're all brothers!
Just as he was lost in thought, a man's voice came from behind him:
"Hello there."
Sith turned around and saw a portly middle-aged man in a bespoke suit walking towards him, who smiled at him.
He smiled on the surface, but the arrogant air of "looking down" on the navy in his eyes was impossible to hide.
Tina stood expressionless beside him and introduced him to Sith:
"This is Earl Brando, who said he's here on behalf of the tour group to say hello to us."
Sith recognized the man as Count Brando, a powerful minister of the Kingdom of Akka, and a representative of this group of nobles.
"Hello there."
Sith gave a casual reply and turned back to look at the sea.
Brando looked somewhat displeased, thinking that this young navy man was rather rude. Shouldn't he have taken the initiative to strike up a conversation with him?
Seeing that the atmosphere was a bit awkward, Tina had no choice but to try to smooth things over:
"Count Brando, I heard that revolutionary soldiers recently infiltrated the Kingdom of Akka. Hopefully, they didn't cause any damage?"
Brando looked indignant upon hearing this:
"The destruction itself wasn't the problem, but the fact that they went into the slums to distribute food and water and even encouraged them to fight for their right to rest was truly awful. Luckily, the Royal Guard discovered it in time!"
Brando was grumbling incessantly when Tina suddenly frowned and interrupted him:
Tina didn't agree with the Revolutionary Army, but she felt that they hadn't done anything wrong by simply distributing food and water.
Brando abruptly stopped speaking, staring wide-eyed at Tina:
"Colonel Tina, what are you saying? Do you actually sympathize with those guys?"
"Speaking of which, the revolutionary forces in the East China Sea are multiplying like cockroaches lately. We're on tenterhooks every time we go out for fun. Your navy can't just take the money and do nothing!"
Hearing him say that, Tina couldn't help but want to punch him, but as a Marine, she couldn't possibly beat up the person she was protecting.
Suddenly, Sith looked up at the sea and raised his right hand.
boom!
A finger gun was fired from the index finger, hitting a passing great white shark. The [Purgatory Dragon Soul] blasted the great white shark into pieces, and flames rose up and burned fiercely on the sea surface.
Tina looked at Sith in astonishment. She had never seen the Navy's Six Styles create such an explosive effect before. Just how much was this kid hiding?
Brando, standing nearby, was terrified and couldn't help but imagine what the consequences would be if he were hit.
Having dealt with the unfortunate Great White Shark, Sith gave Brando a gentle smile:
"I think I just heard that great white shark cursing at Colonel Tina, so I punished it on a whim. Please forgive me if I startled you."
"After all, you absolutely cannot be rude to your superiors on a warship."
Brando's lips twitched. What? He heard the great white shark cursing? Merfolk, huh?
But he sensed the threat in Sith's words and gave a stiff smile:
"I...I understand."
He dared not look at Sith again and fled back to the cabin as if escaping.
Hmph, when I return to the kingdom, I'll definitely give that hothead a piece of my mind!
Tina nudged Sith with her elbow and whispered:
"Um, thanks."
She knew that Sith was upholding her authority.
Sith shrugged and laughed:
"Nothing much, Colonel Tina, but I dealt with a very threatening great white shark, which should count as a merit, so can I apply for a bonus...?"
Seeing Tina's face growing darker and darker, Sith scratched his head and laughed.
"I just mentioned it casually!"
He dashed into the cabin.
The warships sailed in silence until they reached the 13th branch of the East China Sea.
"Truly worthy of being called the foremost pass in the East China Sea."
Sith stepped onto the 13th branch dock and sighed softly.
The 13th branch is located on a hollow circular island. The interior of the island is a lake, and the base buildings are distributed around it, with high walls forming the outermost perimeter.
He had heard before that the 13th Branch had achieved great success in fighting pirates and had ample funding, ranking among the top in the entire East Blue.
As the group disembarked, a burly man in his fifties with dark skin and a thick beard approached, laughing as he greeted them. Sith recognized him as Colonel Mason from the branch.
Colonel Mason first greeted the nobles, and it was clear that they were old acquaintances.
After exchanging pleasantries, he spoke a few more words with Tina, and finally smiled at Sith:
"Uriel Sith, I heard you recently helped Vice Admiral Garp capture a great pirate. I've been wanting to meet you for a long time!"
He shook hands with Sith in a particularly warm manner. Sith exchanged a few polite words and noticed a strong perfume on him, which was quite a contrast to his bearded appearance.
"Could he have come all the way from Chengdu?"
Sith muttered to himself.
After exchanging a few words, Colonel Mason clapped his hands.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have prepared a banquet!"
He warmly invited everyone inside.
After the banquet, Colonel Mason led everyone by boat to the lake on the island, where there was an island in the middle of the lake.
After arriving on the island, Sith understood why the wealthy people of the Kingdom of Akka wanted to visit the 13th Division.
This place is less like an island and more like a large amusement park. At the center of the island is a luxuriously decorated villa that can accommodate hundreds of people. The villa is surrounded by all sorts of entertainment facilities, and there is even a casino.
"Colonel Mason has turned the naval branch into an amusement park...it's hard to describe."
Tina was also visiting the 13th branch for the first time, and she frowned as she observed her surroundings.
Sith wasn't too surprised. There were many naval branches, and each branch used all sorts of methods to attract funding and build connections. Some, like Captain Rat, even cooperated with pirates. Compared to that, building an amusement park was a good thing.
At that moment, a hearty laugh rang out:
"Colonel Tina, I heard all your criticism!"
Colonel Mason walked slowly over, a broad, uninhibited smile on his face.
Tina didn't try to explain herself; she just stood there staring at him.
She was stating the facts and had no intention of hiding them.
However, Mason didn't seem angry. Instead, he leaned closer to the two of them and whispered:
"There's no other way. As you all know, the maintenance funds allocated by headquarters are simply not enough. Only by serving these nobles well can the branch get some support."
Tina looked helpless. She understood what Mason was saying, but she really didn't want the navy to become servants of the nobles.
Sith nodded in understanding:
"Colonel Mason is right. Anything is worthwhile if it upholds justice!"
Upon hearing the word "justice," Mason's expression suddenly became somewhat dazed, as if he had thought of something.
He quickly recovered and sighed in a comforting tone:
"Yes, it was all worth it."
After chatting for a while, Sith and Tina said they were tired and went back to the branch's guest room to rest.
They will have to stay for a few more days until the nobles have had their fun before being sent back.
Watching the two figures disappear into the distance, Mason narrowed his eyes slightly, took out a small bottle of perfume, and sprayed it on himself again.
