Chapter 48 Viktor's Anxiety

The unmarked carriage finally left the enormous manor.

But even after the carriage entered the bustling main street, the coachman Hill's expression remained serious.

This area, which is half the city, is still the territory of the "ravens," and you can see the same ravens in the shops everywhere.

The faces of the wealthy and the luxurious atmosphere in the air made him tense.

After a long while, the carriage finally left the main street.

After entering a secluded path, Hill finally relaxed his tense shoulders when he saw that the ravens that had been following him around were no longer around.

"Miss, you may open the carriage curtain now."

As the son of the old steward and... the coachman of the second young lady of the Raven Merchant Guild, Hill kept his profession firmly in mind:

Everything is done with the young lady's best interests in mind.

"Phew... We finally escaped."

The curtain on the right side of the carriage was pulled open, and Elena peeked out, revealing her beautiful face as she took a deep breath of fresh air.

The surrounding buildings were simply decorated, not luxurious, and there were few pedestrians on the road.

She gave a slightly silly smile.

But the sunlight that fell precisely on half of her face made the girl appear even more radiant.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Victor."

After turning her head away for a few seconds, she remembered the boy in the carriage and nervously pulled her head back.

Knowing the other party's role on this trip, she didn't want to cause them any trouble.

"It's alright, this area is very safe."

Seeing the girl's restraint, Victor smiled and said, "After all, Hill said that."

He didn't trust the driver, but he believed in his own abilities.

"Okay~"

Elena smiled again and tilted half of her head out of the car.

For the girl, the Raven Merchant Guild was too big, and the pressure on her was immense, especially since her brother was constantly putting pressure on her.

What the other person wants most is probably just to relax like this.

Viktor looked at the innocent girl, and his gaze softened unconsciously.

But this relaxation only lasted a few seconds.

Realizing that Hill outside was just an ordinary person, he immediately composed himself.

It seems that Elena hasn't reached level 2 since their last meeting, which isn't surprising, considering she's a canary locked in a cage.

This means that he will be responsible for the entire escort during this trip.

"If he was hiring an escort, why didn't that blond guy hire another adventurer, or at least someone more skilled?"

Victor thought silently, recalling the serious expression on the Baron's face when he mentioned the commission earlier.

He had thought about it before, and the other party had specially taken him to the warehouse, given him gold coins, and also gave him his deceased wife's important items.

Although the other party was unaware of the value of the quill pen, this demonstrates how much they valued it.

"Perhaps it is precisely because the escort mission is so important that a trustworthy person is needed to complete it."

Considering Hill's plain attire and the fact that his carriage was unmarked, this was the only explanation he could think of.

Just as he was pondering, he suddenly felt his black robe being tugged.

Turning my head, I met a pair of beautiful, golden eyes staring intently at me.

"Mr. Victor, do you remember what happened that day?"

Elena spoke with a hint of anticipation in her expression.

Was that day in a place of corruption?

Of course I remember. I'll probably never forget the sight of a bunch of fat maggots when I opened my eyes.

"Miss Elena, are you referring to the payment?"

Besides the fat maggots, that was all Victor remembered.

But as soon as he finished speaking, seeing the girl's slightly pouting lips, he knew he had made a mistake.

"Victor, how could you forget something like that?"

Elena called him by his full name, then leaned closer and said, "I said, next time we meet, call me... Elena."

As she spoke, the girl's expression became somewhat serious, conveying a sense of "if you don't agree, don't blame me."

Is this really that important?

Viktor paused for a moment, but seeing the hint of coquettishness mixed with anger on the other's face, he smiled and said:

"Understood, Elena."

"..."

Elena's serious expression immediately vanished, and she shrank back, turning her head to look out of the carriage.

For some reason, hearing the boy address her like that made her inexplicably nervous, and her toes inside her boots curled up.

Or should we ask him to switch back to his original form of address?

As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she shook her head inwardly.

If I do that, Mr. Victor will definitely look down on me. What will he think of me then?

Is she the frivolous Miss Raven?

"..."

Victor, however, was unaware of the girl's thoughts.

I just found it funny to watch the other person's constantly changing micro-expressions.

"As far as I know, Silvermoon Academy shouldn't start enrolling students for another month."

After about ten seconds, Viktor brought up a topic that piqued his curiosity.

Elena had initially thought that Victor had noticed her unusual behavior, but upon hearing this, she breathed a sigh of relief:

"Yes...yes."

She was still a little nervous, and her voice faltered slightly: "So after I arrive at my destination, I'll be able to relax for a while longer."

Although she really wanted to say "we," she didn't dare.

Even so, after those words were uttered, the girl's slightly flushed face calmed down a little.

"Until then, may I ask Mr. Victor to instruct me?"

The girl, unaware that her words sounded somewhat strange, glanced sideways at Victor:

"I don't want to be surpassed by you by too much."

It was hard to tell what was in the girl's eyes.

There may be expectations, but also resentment; it's a very complex feeling.

However, Viktor clearly saw what was hidden behind the other party's words.

That was the determination shown by the young ravens after leaving their mother's nest.

"Can."

Viktor readily agreed, then shook his head at the expectant gaze of the blonde girl:

"But before that, you have to pay me the fee first."

To everyone's surprise, Elena's face, which had just calmed down, suddenly flushed red at this question:

"Should I give it to you here?"

She turned around, pulled the curtain closed, and was about to put her hand inside her collar.

Viktor's pupils dilated slightly; he had almost guessed what the other party's next move would be, and he quickly called for a halt:

"Actually, 5 gold coins are enough."

"No, that's far from enough. Mr. Victor is... a very important person to me!"

The girl's expression was serious, and her hand had already slipped inside her collar.

Just as the atmosphere in the carriage was becoming increasingly strange, and Viktor's unease reached its peak,

Elena pulled her hand away and yanked off a necklace with half a white raven attached to it.

"..."

Viktor was momentarily stunned, his usually clear mind seemingly becoming somewhat chaotic.

Elena didn't give him a chance to think; she had already wrapped her arms around his neck.

As a cool yet slightly warm sensation spread from the back of his neck, Viktor briefly lost his composure.
