I'm not a Witcher anymore.

Chapter 96 My sword has never been ineffective.

Dandelion immediately puffed out his chest, striking a righteous and awe-inspiring pose:

"I did this to document the story of these fighters who fought for freedom. Their deeds deserve to be told, their sacrifices should be remembered. As a conscientious bard, I have a responsibility to tell the world the truth—"

"He's obsessed with an elf woman's ass," Zoltan interrupted bluntly, "which is why he's willing to die to stay in Fujian City."

"I didn't!" Dandelion jumped up like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, his face flushed red. "I genuinely wanted to record history! As for Lady Anastasia... that was just, that was just incidental! And how could you describe a beautiful lady so crudely!"

"Fine, fine, say whatever you want," Zoltan waved his hand, clearly used to this topic. "Anyway, this guy insisted on staying in Fujian, saying he wanted to 'record everything until the very last moment.' In the end, when the city fell, I was the one who dragged him out of the chaos."

Zig watched the two bickering, a hint of amusement appearing in his eyes.

This scene actually matches his impression of the two people quite well.

After the two quieted down, Sieg continued to ask:

"So, the 'treasure of the demons' that those people talked about is real?"

Zoltan immediately scoffed:

"What treasure of demons? It's just a bunch of country bumpkins spreading rumors. The city of Phrygian has been reduced to ruins; what treasure could there possibly be left? Even if there were, the Nilfgaardian soldiers would have looted it all long ago."

"So, the demons in the ruins of Fujian are also fake?" Sieg asked casually.

Zoltan suddenly fell silent.

His expression became somewhat unnatural, and his gaze drifted to the side, as if he were avoiding something.

"Hey, what's with that guilty look on your face?"

Zoltan cleared his throat, still refusing to look Zieg in the eye.

Seeing this, Dandelion coughed and said somewhat awkwardly:

"Actually... Zoltan and I also heard about the rumor of the demon's treasure. After the city fell, we... uh... we also secretly went back to Fujian City to take a look."

Ziegler immediately became interested and leaned forward slightly:

"And then? What did you discover?"

Dandelion paused, lowered his voice, and adopted a mysterious air:

"There really are ghosts in those ruins."

Zieg raised an eyebrow, his tone clearly skeptical.

The main problem is Dandelion himself... well, from what Sieg knows, he's a typical playboy.

Geralt's current fame is largely due to his constant boasting; of course, Dandelion has indeed helped Geralt a lot at crucial moments—but he has also caused a lot of trouble.

In short, Sieg didn't dare to believe everything Dandelion said.

This guy will make up anything to make the story more exciting.

However, when Sieg turned to look at Zoltan, he found that the usually rugged and straightforward dwarf was now nodding with a troubled expression.

Zieg's expression turned serious.

Zoltan is not the kind of person who talks nonsense.

Even he said that...

However, the world of Witcher is full of all kinds of monsters and supernatural creatures, and the Witcher is just one of them.

Kael Mohan’s manuscripts record many similar cases:

Murdered peasant women, soldiers who died on the battlefield, and women who died with resentment after being betrayed could all transform into vengeful spirits wandering the human world because of their lingering resentment.

Some spirits merely relive the pain of their death in the wilderness, while others drag entire villages into a curse, making the living afraid to approach.

Given the horrific massacres and wars that have ravaged the city of Fujian, with so many deaths, it is entirely reasonable for demons to have been born.

There might even be more than one.

"What does that demon look like? Have you ever fought it?"

Zoltan awkwardly scratched the back of his head:

"I didn't see him."

"Didn't you see it?" Sieg paused, then asked, "How did you know there were spirits if you didn't see them?"

Zoltan glared at Dandelion fiercely:

"It's all because of that cowardly poet! We had just entered the depths of the ruins, and hadn't even taken a few steps, when he heard a noise and immediately started yelling and running away. I was afraid something would happen to him, so I had to chase after him. By the time I finally managed to drag him back, the demon was long gone."

"I was just being cautious!" Dandelion retorted indignantly. "Didn't you hear how terrifying that sound was..."

“But we did hear the sound of armor,” Zoltan interrupted him, his expression turning serious. “The clanging of metal was very clear. It sounded like someone in full armor walking through the ruins. And the sound… didn’t sound like it could come from a living person.”

"armor?"

Zieg frowned.

He quickly sorted through the relevant information in his mind.

While Kaer Morhen's texts do mention many spirits, very few of them walk through ruins dressed in full armor like living people.

If we only talk about "armor sounds" and "Ghost Riders," the most likely thing that comes to mind is actually the Wild Hunt.

But the Wild Hunt is not a demon, but rather the lost kin of the elves.

The elf, as described by humans, calls himself Aion Sid;

They also have another branch of the same ethnicity, called Iain El.

Neither of them were the earliest inhabitants of this world, but rather later arrivals who fled from their homeland destroyed by the White Frost.

Thousands of years ago, the homeland of the elves was destroyed by "White Frost".

It was a catastrophe that swept across the entire world. Ice and snow covered the earth, everything withered, and no life could survive in that frozen land.

In order to survive, the elves built "white ships"—magical creations capable of crossing world barriers—and fled their homeland.

Wandering between multiple worlds, the white frost followed closely behind.

Eventually, the elves discovered a world that could serve as their second home, which is now the world of Witcher.

Not all elves choose to settle here.

Some elves believe that the White Frost is still behind them, and if they stop, the White Frost will eventually engulf the world.

The other group of elves, exhausted from running around, no longer wanted to run or hide.

The Elf race thus split into two branches.

The one who remained, Ian Sid, attempted to establish his own empire in this wild land;

After leaving, Ain El continued to travel through various realms in search of new lands and resources.

Ion El is proud and cruel, a warlike conqueror who regards other races as inferior beings.

They frequently travel to the Witcher world to plunder, suddenly appearing near villages or towns to attack unsuspecting residents.

Most people would be killed or captured and enslaved;

Only a very few lucky ones manage to escape.

Since Ain El was almost always a heavily armored cavalryman, with helmets and armor deliberately made in the shape of skulls, he looked ferocious and terrifying.

Those who survived by sheer luck called them "the Wild Hunt" in terror, believing them to be ghostly riders from the underworld.

But Sieg doesn't believe the Wild Hunt will linger in the ruins of Fugeon.

The Wild Hunt's objectives are always clear—either they are plundering a specific population or they are hunting down an important target.

Ruins like those in Fuzhen, which had already been looted, were of no value to them.

Moreover, the Wild Hunt is known for its swift movements, arriving and departing quickly, and it doesn't stay in one place for long.

Either Zoltan and the others misheard, mistaking some other sound for the sound of armor;

Either someone is playing tricks in the ruins to create a terrifying atmosphere and scare away treasure hunters.

Even if there really are demons...

Sieg mentally reviewed the alchemy supplies he had taken with him when he left Kaer Morhen.

There's still saltpeter and mercury solution left, enough to temporarily create a few Moon Dust pills specifically designed to counter demon spirits.

Once Moon Dust can force out the form of those things, then it will be the sword's turn to speak.
