This pirate only wants to farm.
Chapter 41 The Famous Unlucky Guy of the Windless Sea
The Calm Sea is vast, beyond imagination. It is precisely because of this that it has become a paradise for pirates, but also a hell for them.
If they weren't desperate, who would want to be a pirate?
If pirates weren't desperate, who would willingly come to the Windless Sea...
The captain of the Black Tuna pursed his chapped lips, glanced at the protruding cannons on the Scholar and the dense array of muskets on the deck, and finally forced an ugly smile, laughing so hard that his almost rotting gums were exposed:
"Just kidding, how could I possibly plunder a renowned scholar?"
"Men, put your weapons away now!"
The sailors on the Black Tuna, though trying their best to appear fierce, all breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing the captain's order.
Some sailors even collapsed to the ground, exhausted from the standoff that had lasted less than a minute.
Old Tony slung the enormous longsword over his shoulder and grunted twice: "Now, are you willing to trade?"
The captain of the Black Tuna smiled and took two steps forward, only to see that the muskets on the Scholar were already aimed at him.
Those damn shorty bastards!
Wasn't the Mink Tribe supposed to be a bunch of bookworms on the verge of extinction?
How come they all look more like pirates than I do!
Although he had cursed old Tony a thousand times in his heart, the captain of the Black Tuna still managed to force a smile that resembled that of an undead creature: "Of course we'll trade, but the price..."
Old Tony, however, simply raised his longsword and slashed at the plank connecting the two ships in front of them, spitting a mouthful of phlegm into the sea: "Pah! Don't say my price is too high. Your Black Tuna isn't some rookie who just arrived in the Calm Sea. You should know that these things are rare and hard to come by."
"I only need freshwater, cannons, and gunpowder. You should still have some stock. Keep some of it; it'll be enough for you to raid the Windless Sea once."
"Otherwise, if you miss out on us, with these weapons, you probably won't have the strength to go out and plunder, will you?"
"At this point, any random pirate could wipe you all out."
At this point, old Tony paused, looked back at his own Scholar, and then at the defenseless Black Tuna.
They seemed to be calculating whether they were qualified to eat this big fish.
The captain of the Black Tuna broke out in a cold sweat. Could these damned little dwarfs really be up to something?
Who was it that said these scholars' ship was the only trustworthy and worthwhile trading partner on a calm sea?
These damned scholars deserve to be hunted down and wiped out!
As the captain of the Black Tuna, he knew better than anyone where he was in the mess.
They had been drifting on the windless sea for half a year, and in all that time, they hadn't even managed a single successful raid. It wasn't that they weren't skilled enough; they were just incredibly unlucky, not even seeing a single merchant ship.
Thus, their ability to survive for half a year on a windless sea was already a minor miracle.
If those damned dwarves really had any improper thoughts, let alone plundering, even if they maliciously threw a piece of bread onto the deck, the ship would be thrown into chaos.
If everyone were given a piece of that fragrant, soft little cake, all the bastards on this ship would dare to cut off his head, the captain's head.
The captain of the Black Tuna quickly clapped his hands and said, "I must have had too much rum and misheard the price. I think there's nothing wrong with your offer."
"I can spare three cannons, 20 packs of gunpowder, and three buckets of water."
Old Tony glanced back at the seven or eight baskets full of breadfruit on the deck, and shook his head: "Not enough. At least five cannons, 30 packs of gunpowder, and four buckets of water."
The captain of the Black Tuna immediately flew into a rage: "You damned little dwarf, I've shown you everything I could! This is a two-masted sailing ship, with a maximum of 16 cannons. Can your Scholar even hold all of these?"
"We'll give you a maximum of 50 more shells!"
The captain of the Black Tuna's voice was distorted; if he hadn't been so hungry he was almost hallucinating, he would never have forgotten the filth and despicable nature of pirates and offered such a sincere price.
Old Tony clicked his tongue, but ultimately didn't press the issue further. He tapped the railing on the ship's side with the back of his knife: "Alright, since I'm the most learned man on the Calm Sea, and the second kindest, then you can move the cannons and your stuff over here."
The captain of the Black Tuna gritted his teeth, eager to tear this short guy, who looked perfect for a barbecue, to shreds.
However, when he saw old Tony's mocking gaze, he ultimately suppressed his inner rage and revealed a lewd and obsequious expression: "You are far too modest. With the magnanimity you've displayed, you're only ranked second in the Calm Sea?"
At this point, old Tony's expression held a hint of piety: "You're just ignorant. The reason I was able to make a deal with you is thanks to that person."
The captain of the Black Tuna wanted to probe further, as he also wanted to know where this magical fruit could be obtained.
However, old Tony was too lazy to waste any more words with him. He simply turned to the side, took off that damned eye patch, put his glasses back on, and took out a notebook, writing something down.
It was as if the pirate who had just sucked his bones and marrow wasn't him at all.
The captain of the Black Tuna was furious, but he could only resign himself to his fate and order his men to hurry up and move the cargo over.
Although the sailors on the Black Tuna were already too weak from hunger, they still managed to muster their last bit of strength after smelling the aroma of breadfruit.
They let out monkey-like howls as they scrambled through the ship's hold to retrieve the few remaining supplies, some even thoughtfully helping to carry them onto the Scholar.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to take a breadfruit from the basket and carry it back to the Black Tuna.
Soon, a deal that satisfied old Tony came to an end, because after the deal was over, he also looted some less useful magical items from the captain on the other side.
Of course, the three small loaves of bread that smelled so tempting were still taken away as a free gift.
Pirates have such good memories.
Watching the Black Tuna and its captain sail away, listening to the foul cursing, old Tony finished writing down the list, clapped his hands at the young men on deck, and said gently:
"Alright, let's hurry up and move these things back to the cabin. We need to make the most of the remaining breadfruit and citrus fruits and trade them out as soon as possible."
"And those small loaves of bread, you're not allowed to steal them, they're supplies we have to trade out."
"I assure you, after this transaction is completed, we will immediately go to find that person and resupply them."
From his mast, Sal, having confirmed that the Blackfin Tuna was far away, then turned disgruntled and shouted to old Tony below, "No, Captain! Those little breads are my life!"
The other furry tribesmen also showed their dissatisfaction. Making these scholars drink rum was already a huge torment. If they also lost their bread, which was their spiritual sustenance, how could they possibly live a good life?
Half a small loaf of bread a day is their only hope.
However, old Tony firmly shook his head: "No, we must trade all of this food in exchange for enough supplies."
"We need to find the items that person needs, and obtain enough food and supplies to sustain us through the entire rainy season."
"I can tell you definitively that we will not have any other activities during this entire rainy season; we will devote ourselves entirely to the research."
Hearing what old Tony said, the little mink on the ship all showed expressions of surprise. Studying those documents and knowledge was what they, as scholars, should do. Who would want to be a smelly pirate?
But what old Tony said next shocked them.
"We must go to the heart of the Windless Sea and dig out all the books we've hidden on the island."
Those are the fur tribe's most valuable possessions, the oldest documents and records in the world. What issue could be making the captain so anxious?
Old Tony gazed at the coastline and sighed deeply.
The awakening of the Hades was definitely not accidental; he vaguely remembered that some ancient records mentioned prophecies about the Hades.
This prophecy is also related to the windless sea.
Old Tony had a premonition that he had to find out the truth about this matter, as it would determine whether the remaining members of the Mink Tribe could survive.
But at that moment, Owen on the mast suddenly rang a bell, the loud sound causing every Mink on the Scholar to look up.
Irving shouted loudly down below:
"Captain, run! The Black Tuna is back!"
Old Tony was nervously preparing to put his eye patch back on when he heard Irving's words. He was so angry that he almost threw the eye patch at Irving: "We're doing a legitimate deal, why are you running away?"
Owen stammered, trembling, "They...they're being chased by the Navy!"
"Look at the flag above, it's the Royal Navy of the Oren Empire!"
