4. Food poisoning and antidote
Lynn glanced around at her surroundings again.
The square is about the size of a basketball court, with an abandoned fountain in the middle and seven or eight old tents of various kinds around it. However, there are far fewer people standing in bizarre poses like performance art on this section of the street.
"This is a small group called the Fountain Gang."
Mike, who had finished chatting with an acquaintance, came over, took out a deflated pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and handed one to Lynn.
Not knowing whether it was a regular cigarette or a leaf cigarette, Lynn didn't take it, but smiled and pushed it back.
"Just regular cigarettes, forget it, I'll smoke them myself."
Mike put a cigarette in his mouth, lit it with a lighter, and took a deep drag, which made him cough.
"I know you are very virtuous, but you'd better have some kind of disease on you when you're out on the street. You don't need many, just two or three will do, otherwise it's very dangerous."
Although it was a very counterintuitive statement, it gave Lynn a sense of horror.
He had read similar novels before, which said that the organs or other parts of the homeless people on the streets of America were always coveted by the rich.
A little bit of poison is fine, but if you're truly perfect, you might become someone else's backup blood pack.
"Thanks, Mike, I'll be careful."
Lynn patted him on the shoulder, developing a considerable liking for the bald, muscular man covered in tattoos and shirtless.
Although he pieced together the wrecked original body in order to sell it.
But now that I've been resurrected, isn't he still taking good care of me? It seems like the two of them used to have a really good relationship.
"Hey, someone help me! Does anyone have norfloxacin or ofloxacin? Bob has food poisoning!"
Just as Lynn was considering where to go to earn money so that he could escape such a terrible environment, an anxious shout came from not far away.
"Hey, what's wrong? Food poisoning?"
The middle-aged, long-haired white man who had just been chatting with Mike and had given him bananas and yogurt immediately jumped out of the tent, and the people in the other tents also poked their heads out to look in that direction.
"Yes, we came across free medical checkups two blocks away, and they were handing out food to those getting checked. Someone gave us a few huge hamburgers. I was going to bring them back to share, but Bob was so hungry he ate half of one first, and this is what happened..."
The newcomer was a young man of Mexican descent. He was supporting a black boy who was almost unconscious, his eyes rolled back, and he was foaming at the mouth.
"Go find old John quickly, he must have the medicine!"
The long-haired white man immediately ran towards Old John's tent in the center, and everyone watched him with great anticipation.
Not long after, he sighed, shook his head, and walked out of the tent.
"No, we don't have norfloxacin or ofloxacin. Old John's cash flow has recently dried up, and he hasn't received any new stock for over a week..."
"Damn it, what do we do? It's so late, where are we going to get the antidote?"
The onlookers nearby were also dejected, clearly indicating that the members of this small fountain gang had a good relationship, and everyone was worried about the black boy who had been poisoned.
"Sigh, I've been set up..."
Mike shook his head, lowered his head weakly, and said to Lynn.
"You got set up? What do you mean?"
Lynn, who lacked knowledge about the streets, quickly pressed for answers.
"Going across the street to ask for food, I was bound to get some disapproving looks, so they taught me a lesson..."
"Or maybe it's just a way for people to have fun; some heartless bastards just want to see others suffer so they can be happy!"
Mike slammed his fist into the ground.
"We don't even know what those people put in the burger to cause this poisoning. Even if there was norfloxacin, it probably wouldn't be very effective. This kid will just have to tough it out on his own..."
He shrugged, helplessly watching Bob foaming at the mouth, unable to do anything about it.
"Yes...and there are just so many types of food poisoning, sometimes it's impossible to know what kind of poison it is without a doctor's help..."
Lynn had only recently transmigrated and didn't yet feel a strong sense of belonging to this small group, but he could see the anxious expressions of the people around the black boy.
As for why he wasn't taken to the hospital...
Before Lynn transmigrated, he watched foreign videos and knew that a doctor's touch and a chat could cost $5600. He also knew that homeless people were not qualified to go to the hospital.
"I wish I could help him."
He sighed, thinking to himself with a hint of helplessness.
"Wait a minute... food poisoning, isn't food poisoning still poisoning? I think I happen to know a solution!"
He suddenly remembered the antidote skill he had just picked up from O'Brien!
He quickly opened the system panel and looked at the instruction manual for this thing.
"【Antide Potion】: Removes the effects of normal-level poisoning from the target."
"Recipe: 1 venom sac from a spider, toad, or snake."
Then a crafting interface popped up next to the panel, and it was exactly the same as the First Aid panel in World of Warcraft!
"Holy crap, that's awesome!"
This orc is poisoned and will die and become infected as an undead if not treated quickly. Heal him and you will receive a reward.
The system's task panel suddenly popped up, startling Lynn who was in a state of excitement.
However, he reacted instantly and shouted at Mike!
"Don't just stand there! Go and catch me a spider or a poisonous snake, a toad will do, the bigger the better!"
"Spiders and snakes? No, Lynn, what's wrong with you? What does this have to do with saving Bob?"
Mike felt a little dizzy after being grabbed by the shoulder and shaken violently. He frowned and asked in confusion.
"Never mind that. If there are spiders or poisonous snakes, I can make an antidote!"
"What? You can make antidotes?"
"Stop talking nonsense, do you even want to save people or not!"
"Of course I want to, Lynn, you better not be lying to me! Hey everyone, quiet down and listen to me!"
Mike gave him a fierce look, then immediately turned around and shouted at everyone:
"Do you have any spiders or snakes in your tent? Toads will do too! My buddy can use them to make an antidote!"
"What? Using spider venom to make an antidote?"
Upon hearing this, everyone looked at Lynn standing to the side in confusion. They hadn't known this kid as long as Mike, and they didn't know he had such a special skill.
"Stop standing there! Do you have it or not? If not, hurry up and go find it!"
Mike shouted.
"I have a snake here. I encountered it yesterday in the woods by the park. It almost scared me to death, but thankfully I killed it with a stone..."
A young man with messy blond hair timidly raised his hand and pointed to his tent.
"I originally wanted to roast him over a fire like Bear Grylls does, but I didn't know if he was a poisonous snake, so I haven't done it yet, and I can't bear to throw him away..."
"Let me see it?"
Lynn rushed over and, following his directions, looked at the snake's carcass piled up in the corner of his tent.
"I recognize this snake, it's an Agkistrodon contortrix! I've seen it back in my hometown in Michigan!"
A gaunt woman in her fifties with messy, straw-like hair pointed at the snake and screamed!
"It's a poisonous snake, isn't it?"
Lynn quickly pressed for more information.
"It's a venomous snake. Although its venom isn't as potent as a rattlesnake's, a bite can still cause intense pain, swelling, and even limb necrosis!"
"That's good. Does anyone have a dagger? Give me one! And gloves too!"
Then someone handed him a dagger and a pair of old rubber gloves.
Lynn rushed forward, carefully lifted the snake by the head, and used the tip of his dagger to carefully gouge out a teardrop-shaped gland about the size of a little finger egg from the sides of its head and behind its eyes.
You have obtained the item: Fresh Poison Sac.
"All of you get out, I need to concoct medicine!"
Lynn waved his hand and chased everyone out of the tent.
His method of making medicine was to put the poison sac into the virtual emergency interface in front of him, and then click "make" to produce the finished product. This way of creating things out of thin air was seen by others, which was hard to explain.
