After leaving the small roadside supermarket, Lynn and Mike lost all interest in buying umbrellas and raincoats.

They moved quickly and silently through the rain, and soon arrived at their pre-arranged destination: Fuji Sushi on Fifth Avenue.

"Hey, what kind of business are you talking about?"

Upon arriving here, they found two Black men, one fat and one thin, already standing under the eaves of a building on a street corner, rubbing their hands and waiting for them with a bored expression.

"Hey boss, hey Mike~"

The group met, greeted each other, and then DeShawn and Daniel exchanged a glance and pointed to a decent apartment building next door.

"The client this time is a 33-year-old white-collar worker named Elena Vasquez, who lives in this building..."

As he introduced the building, he led Lynn and Mike toward the old apartment building that seemed to be almost half a century old.

As DeShawn walked, he said, "Boss, this woman's condition isn't good. She says she's dying, but the doctors can't find anything wrong. I suspect she might be possessed by some evil spirit, or cursed."

Lynn didn't reply, but simply pulled her coat collar up a little.

The rain grew heavier, pattering against the tin awning with a dense, rhythmic sound.

The four of them climbed to the fourth floor, and DeShawn knocked on the door of 405.

The door opened, and a woman stood in the doorway.

She looked to be in her early thirties, with a Latino appearance, sallow skin, sunken eyes, and purple lips, and looked like she hadn't slept for several days.

She was wearing an old T-shirt, and her exposed arms had patches of purplish-blue bruises.

Lynn looked at her face and used the system to directly open her personal profile:

[The 33-year-old ghost, Elena Vasquez, was in as bad a physical condition as she was financially. Unaware that she had been poisoned by her ex-boyfriend, she was about to die slowly from chronic thallium poisoning, with only about a week to live.]

Lynn's eyes narrowed slightly.

Thallium poisoning.

It is colorless and odorless, and the symptoms resemble those of a cold.

Then comes hair loss, neuralgia, bruising on the skin, and finally organ failure.

This stuff isn't easy to get in the US, but if someone has decent high school chemistry knowledge—or knows someone with chemistry knowledge—it might be a different story.

"You must be Lynn, the witch doctor they've been talking about? Please come in."

Elena's voice was hoarse as she stepped aside to let them in.

The apartment wasn't big, but it was kept fairly clean.

Several medical records and test reports were piled on the sofa, and more than a dozen medicine bottles were placed on the coffee table.

Elena moved the medical records aside and gestured for them to sit down.

As Mike sat down, his gaze swept over the medicine bottles, and he frowned slightly.

He had been a chemistry teacher and had some knowledge of drugs and poisons.

"Tell me about your situation, don't hide anything."

Lynn got straight to the point.

Elena sat down, her hands unconsciously twisting together.

"I started feeling unwell two months ago. At first, I felt nauseous and weak, which I thought was just from working too hard. Later, I started losing hair, my fingers went numb, and bruises appeared on my body for no reason."

I went to three different community hospitals and had my blood drawn several times, but the doctors all said they couldn't find the cause.

Some say I might have an autoimmune problem due to excessive stress, while others say I might be malnourished.

They prescribed me all sorts of medications, but none of them worked. In fact, they almost made me addicted to the enhancers. I'm too scared to touch those damn devils anymore..."

Her voice began to tremble.

"Last week I started having difficulty breathing and was out of breath even when walking. My doctor said I might have some kind of rare disease and suggested I go to a large hospital in Seattle for further examination."

But my insurance is simply not enough. I already owe more than $5,000 in medical bills from my last hospitalization, and debt collection agencies have already started calling me…”

Lynn listened quietly, then asked a seemingly unrelated question:

"By the way, Ms. Vasquez, are you still in contact with your ex-boyfriend?"

Elena was stunned.

How did you know I had an ex-boyfriend?

She immediately realized she had asked a stupid question. How could a woman of her age, who was also quite good-looking, not have a boyfriend? How could she only have one boyfriend?

"Just a guess."

Lynn pointed to his knee with his finger without changing his expression.

"Go on."

Elena hesitated for a moment, then realized that the person sitting in front of her wasn't a psychologist, but a witch doctor!

Maybe this guy really is as capable as his two black underlings claim?

Thinking this way, she ultimately decided that since she had already invited someone, it was best not to hesitate to seek medical help.

"His name is Derek, and he's my colleague at the company. We were together for over a year, and we broke up three months ago."

The reason for the breakup was that he asked me to help him modify some customer data, which I refused—it was financial fraud, and I didn't want to go to jail.

He felt I wasn't loyal enough, so we had a fight and broke up. But later he started badmouthing me at work, which almost got me fired.

"Bingo!"

Lynn slapped his thigh. It seemed that the missing motivation that the system hadn't read had now been filled in by Elena.

"After the breakup, did you two maintain any contact or communication? And did he ever visit you?"

Lynn pressed on with more questions.

"Yes, he was the one in charge of grilling the meat when our company organized a picnic, and he even encouraged me to eat more."

"We haven't had any further contact since then. Oh, right, he did come here once, just last week!"

Elena's expression turned curious.

"But what does my health problem have to do with him? My health was already very bad at that time, but he still brought a bouquet of flowers and some fruit, saying that he cared about my health. I was quite touched at the time."

The flowers were beautiful and fragrant, but I didn't eat any of the fruit—I was feeling unwell both emotionally and physically at the time, and couldn't eat anything.

Lynn turned and glanced at Mike.

Mike looked back at him, pursed his lips somewhat helplessly, and nodded diagonally.

"Sigh... they really have no humanity..."

Lynn sighed, then pulled a palm-sized glass test tube containing a dark green liquid from the inside pocket of his coat.

He placed the test tube on the coffee table and pushed it toward Elena.

"I think I know why your health is getting worse. Drink it, Miss Vasquez."

Elena looked down at the bottle of strange green liquid, her face full of confusion:

"What is this green thing...?"

"Something that can save your life."

Lynn shrugged and said to her.

"I can tell you very clearly, Ms. Vasquez, you are not sick, you are poisoned, chronic thallium poisoning. Your ex-boyfriend probably poisoned you during that company dinner by putting poison in the barbecue."

The air in the room seemed to freeze instantly.
