60 Unclaimed wallets, new news from Geller
In the afternoon, Lynn treated three homeless people who had suffered drug poisoning during a drug trial at Britney's place, earning a reward of 30% bonus to first aid skills and 30 points to character experience.
His experience level is now 252/300. He only needs 50 more points to level up to lv4, which Lynn is really looking forward to.
"Ring ring~"
Just as Lynn sat down to have a cup of coffee with the two ladies, her phone suddenly rang.
"You've already made plans with Perez so quickly?"
Lynn answered the phone, muttering to herself.
But then I heard someone else's voice coming through the microphone.
"Hey boss, it's me, Geller!"
It turns out to be one of the two corrupt police henchmen they had recruited. Why are they calling at this time?
"I saw your wallet in the police station's evidence storage area! But it was completely empty, not a single penny! Boss, what happened to you?"
Geller's voice on the phone was very urgent, and Lynn then remembered the absurd story that had been running in that small supermarket on the street the day before yesterday morning.
At the time, the robbers demanded that Mike put his wallet and all the money on him into the blue Walmart shopping bag, but when they left, the two patrol officers did not allow them to take their belongings.
"The day before yesterday morning we bought umbrellas at a small supermarket, and then..."
He briefly recounted what had happened; to be honest, he had long forgotten about it. After all, what you eat that's already in a dog's mouth, you can't possibly pry it out, can you?
"Actually, there was only a little over $100 inside. I had already accepted my loss and hadn't thought about it anymore."
"I see. Indeed, boss, we do have quite a few not-so-good guys in our SPD..."
Geller breathed a huge sigh of relief on the other end of the phone. He had thought that his newly acquainted boss had caused some trouble, but it turned out to be such a trivial matter.
After all, he had personally witnessed the new boss's abilities, and he was even thinking about when to ask him to help him solve his problems.
"Okay, that's all for now. I'll hang up now if there's nothing else."
Hearing a corrupt cop like Geller say that the other police officers in the station were no good either, Lynn felt a sense of absurdity that was even greater than what had happened in the supermarket.
"Hey, Boss, hold on, there's something I want to tell you."
Geller called out quickly, and Lynn didn't hang up the phone.
"What is it?"
He asked curiously.
"Here's the thing, didn't you mention last time that a Black guy you knew was being threatened by those medical complexes and was being asked to register as a police auxiliary officer with us?"
As soon as he said that, the image of that poor black boy who was being used as a guinea pig by a medical institution immediately popped into your mind.
"You mean Marshall? What's wrong with him? Has he reported to your office yet?"
"That's why I asked you, boss! Is something holding him up? We've been waiting for him for days and he still hasn't come."
So that's what happened. I didn't expect Geller to be so loyal; he remembered things so clearly that I had forgotten them myself.
"That shouldn't be the case. He said he would only go to that clinic for drug trials once a month. The last time he came to me, there were still almost 20 days until his next trial..."
Lynn recalled briefly, and indeed that was what he said.
"But I'll check on him. He's a simple, honest, and kind guy, and he's my personal driver. Come to think of it, I haven't gone far these past few days, and I haven't called him at all..."
After a brief chat with Geller, Lynn hung up the phone, opened his contacts, and found the number Marshall had given him.
"Beep~ Beep~ Beep~"
The phone was dialed, but it rang for a long time without anyone answering.
Just as Lynn was about to hang up in disappointment, the phone was answered, and a very anxious middle-aged Black woman's voice came from the other end.
"Hey, this is Marshall's mother. Who are you?"
"Oh? Marshall's mother?"
Lynn was stunned. How did his phone end up in his mother's hands?
A sense of foreboding flashed through his mind, and he quickly pressed for an answer:
"Hello ma'am, this is Marshall's new boss. You may have heard him talk about the witch doctor. What happened to him? How come you have his phone?"
"Oh? You're his new boss, Mr. Lynn? I've heard him talk about you. He was so excited when he mentioned you, he praised you like you were something special!"
"Mr. Lynn, do you know where my son is? Did you assign him some kind of task? He hasn't been home for three days!"
On the phone, the Black mother's tone was particularly urgent, and her anxiety was palpable through the receiver.
"No, I didn't assign him any tasks. I just told him to come back, settle you all in, and then come work for me... Wait!"
Hearing him say that, Lynn also frowned.
He suddenly had a bad feeling!
"Could it be that the people from that medical institution contacted him again and gave him some newly developed nerve agent?"
"Madam, please don't worry. We will go and look for your son. Taking care of yourself and your family is a huge help to him."
After offering a few more words of reassurance to the anxious woman, Lynn quickly hung up the phone and called out to Mike.
But then he suddenly remembered that he had gone to the docks to buy venomous snakes, so he took out his phone and called DeShawn.
"Hmm? Marshall hasn't contacted his family for three days, boss. This isn't right, something's definitely wrong!"
DeShawn's thick Black accent on the phone was so sickening it went straight to Lynn's brain.
"So I'm planning to send you guys to check it out and investigate what's going on about him. Johns Hopkins Medical School... that's the name. If you have any connections, send a few people to gather information. I'll give you and them a good reward."
"Okay, boss, we'll go find out right away... Hey, Daniel, you're back? I'm on the phone with the boss... What? What did you say? Holy shit... This is damn..."
Suddenly, Lynn heard a burst of fierce cursing coming from DeShawn's end of the phone!
"What's going on your end, DeSean? You said Daniel's back? What did he do there? What news did he bring back?"
But instead of replying, DeShawn launched into a long string of intense, slang-heavy curses that Lynn could barely understand.
After a long while, he heard the sound of the phone being snatched into someone else's hand, and a more authentic Black accent:
"Hey boss, Marshall is dead..."
Daniel's first words left Lynn speechless with shock.
