Chapter 89 The money is still there! There's still a chance! (3/4)

"Donald A. Sean Clinic?"

Lynn went back to meet up with the others and told them what he had just found out.

"They actually built a clinic on top of it!"

Cooper felt a mix of emotions upon hearing the news.

"If you're going to build a house, you have to lay a foundation, right? They must have already dug up that money and taken it!"

Jack, standing to the side, was also rubbing his messy blond hair with a worried look on his face, sighing repeatedly in disappointment.

"Yes, very likely. And after so many years, even the slightest change in terrain would make people discover that bag of money—"

DeShawn and Daniel, standing to the side, were also very frustrated. They had hoped to make a big profit from this trip, but they never expected to see this scene.

"No, not a bag of money, but a box of money."

But Cooper's words gave them a glimmer of hope.

"At the time, I felt that an ordinary travel bag would not last long to store money. Rain or a dog smelling it would cause the bag to break and expose the money or allow someone to find it. So I specially bought two boxes, a stainless steel box and a plastic box, and nested them together to put the bag containing the money inside."

"So even rain or normal force won't damage the money inside."

"How deep did you bury this box?"

"To avoid being discovered, I probably dug up to about half a person's height."

Cooper gestured to his chest.

Now, he looks old and is only about 1.75 meters tall.

"I used to be much taller than I am now, I was six feet one inch!"

Cooper was unconvinced and stepped on the ground to stand on.

"That's about 1.1 to 1.2 meters deep—" Lynn pressed his hand to his lower lip, thinking carefully.

"Forget it, let's go and see for ourselves. We have no right to speak without investigation."

Lynn, Cooper, and Lily walked in that direction, while the rest of the group stayed outside the town in Jack's car. After all, it was a middle-class neighborhood, and Daniel and DeShawn's dark skin would make people very wary.

Soon, the three of them arrived at Sean's Clinic, guided by the navigation.

This is a very typical American detached villa, with a wooden structure and painted in brown and red, making it particularly eye-catching in this modern town with its lush green grass.

Lynn's eyes lit up immediately when he saw the building!

Wooden building!

Wooden buildings are lighter overall, much lighter than brick-concrete and steel structures, so the foundation depth required is usually much shallower than the latter two!

He immediately took out his phone and Googled it.

"That's right, you see. For a typical medium-sized log cabin, the recommended foundation depth for an American-style wooden detached house is 1 to 1.5 meters!"

"And this clinic is very small, a single-story structure, with a foundation even shallower than this figure. It's quite possible that the box Cooper buried hasn't been discovered by them!"

Lynn, pretending to be a tourist, stood on the street with a tourist map, pointing around, but what she said greatly excited Mike and Lily!

"Yes, what you said reminds me! Washington State is in the northwestern part of the United States, at a high latitude, so the depth of the permafrost needs to be taken into account when building houses!"

Upon hearing this, Lily seemed to remember something, and her eyes shone with excitement!

"When I was a child, I watched my grandfather build our house. I clearly remember him telling my father that the permafrost in Seattle is about 30 to 60 centimeters deep, and that for ordinary houses, a foundation depth of 30 centimeters below the frost line is sufficient!"

Lily became more and more excited as she spoke, and pulled over a map to point out the latitude and longitude lines of this place!

"Portland is only 280 kilometers south of Seattle—you see, Portland's geographical location is 45 degrees 31 minutes north latitude, which is still a slightly permafrost region, that's right. Plus, since it's a wooden building, the foundation depth must be less than 3.9 feet (1.2 meters)!"

This discovery greatly excited everyone!

The box containing the money may not have been dug up yet, so they still have a chance!

Just then, Lynn saw a young woman dressed in black Lolita fashion with tattoos on her arms stride toward the clinic with an arrogant expression that made everyone owe her half a million dollars.

Not long after, a heated argument broke out inside. It was the voice of a young girl and the voice of a middle-aged white man. The group was not very close, so they could only vaguely make out the general idea.

Then came a loud "bang" as the door slammed shut. The girl stormed out, ran down the steps, and strode back the way she came. She got into an old Chevrolet Malibu parked not far away, its paint peeling slightly. The car spewed out a cloud of black exhaust fumes and roared away.

"This is----"

The group looked at each other, completely bewildered as to what had happened.

"Well, I'd better go in and check it out first, see what's going on inside."

After Lynn finished speaking, he raised his hand and cast a level 1 [Weakness Curse] on himself.

This caused his originally straight back to quickly hunch over.

Even his voice sounded weak, and he even deliberately made a phlegm sound in his throat as he coughed and pushed open the clinic door to go inside.

"Hello, is anyone there?"

The foyer was only one meter wide, and inside was a small living room. A middle-aged man in a white coat was sitting behind a table with simple medical equipment, drinking coffee and sulking.

"Hello, I'm Dr. Sean. How can I help you?"

When a patient came in for a consultation, the man finally suppressed his anger and stood up to greet him.

"Hello, I'm feeling a bit unwell. I've been coughing a lot for the past couple of days, and I also feel tightness in my chest."

Lynn looked around the simple, single-story clinic, but made perfunctory conversation with the doctor.

"Please sit down first, I'll listen to your ears with a stethoscope."

The middle-aged man picked up the stethoscope from the table, hung the stethoscope to his ear, and then gestured for Lynn to open his clothes. He then inserted the stethoscope from below and placed it on Lynn's chest.

"Dr. Sean, how long has your clinic been open? When my parents came here 25 years ago, it was just an empty lot—"

While dealing with the other party's suspension of treatment, Lynn chatted haphazardly with him, mainly talking about the story of her parents falling in love under the cedar tree that she had just told the middle-aged woman.

"25 years ago? This was indeed a wasteland. We only built our houses here 10 years ago."

Dr. Sean moved the probe around a few times, listening with a frown while casually answering Lynn's questions.

"We know about that big cedar tree you mentioned. It's a shame to cut it down, but there's no other way; it's necessary for leveling the land."

"There doesn't seem to be a problem from the front. It's been a bit cold these past few days, so you probably just caught a cold. Let me listen to the back for you."

The middle-aged man made Lynn turn his back and then placed the camera on his back.

"There's actually an interesting story behind that cedar tree."
