Tokyo: Let the wicked women pay the price!

Chapter 19 A High-Ranking Fire Survivor

Fujino opened his eyes; the floor was three centimeters above his head.

The hangover made him so dizzy that he couldn't even get up immediately.

He rubbed his head, sat on the bed, and looked at the bedding beside him.

There was a faint human-shaped depression there, and the fragrance of yesterday still lingered.

But it's not real.

"Who brought me home yesterday... I'll go thank him this afternoon." He rubbed his eyes, got up to wash, and almost slipped in the bathroom. "What? A dream that vanished without a trace?"

Today is a workday, but Professor Kasai predicted yesterday that Fujino would not be able to get up smoothly this morning, so he gave him half a day off.

Of course, he himself only found out about it through a text message on his phone.

[Professor Kasai: I've given you half a day off. Get some rest, wash off the smell of alcohol, and then come back to the hospital!]

[Yamagami Ukyo: I've made some progress on my end, wanna chat?]

Fujino grabbed his coat and headed out the door.

Are you kidding me?

Even if it weren't for those unlucky guys who were instigated by Himegami Ayame, I still had to go see Inspector Ukyo for the Metropolitan Police Department's allowance.

The route is the same; the tram runs from Kita-Senju to Hongo 3-chome.

This is because the guard post of the Ukyo Police Department is located right at the entrance of the University of Tokyo.

But you can't really talk about these things in the guard post.

They sat down at a cafe near the University of Tokyo and whispered among themselves.

Fujino cut straight to the point, without much small talk.

"What's the progress, Ukyo-kun?"

Inspector Ukyo took out a photograph.

The photo is blurry, but you can barely tell it's a woman by looking at her hips and figure.

"If nothing unexpected happens, this guy is Himegami Ayame?"

Fujino took the photo, squinting as he examined the details: "You identified her so easily? Then why didn't you arrest her?"

Ukyo sighed, "How can we arrest him? We have no evidence. Besides, Hanayama-chan has been investigating him these past few days, and it's like he's vanished."

Yes, the only evidence is the Hanako case, but Hanako's actions do not constitute a crime.

Himegami Ayame's actions do not constitute instigation.

"Moreover," Ukyo tapped the table, "I suspect the other side already knows we're investigating."

Fujino took a sip of cappuccino and was about to speak when Ukyo's bell interrupted him.

"Yoshi yoshi. What is this 'Flower Mountain Sauce'? Where is it?! I'm coming right now."

When Ukyo received the call, his relaxed expression immediately turned tense, and he got up to prepare to drive off.

"Fujino-san, will you come with me? There's been progress on Hanayama."

Fujino was about to say that he had to go to work, but then hesitated for a moment and nodded, thinking about his half-day off.

Ukyo drove his beat-up Toyota at high speed toward the border between Bunkyo Ward and Chiyoda Ward.

"Ukyo-kun, what about Lady Hanayama?"

Ukyo frowned: "That's why I called you. There's a fire over there. Although an ambulance was called, what if emergency medical care is needed..."

Fujino pointed to himself incredulously.

I?

I'm an internist! And a psychiatrist!

I've basically forgotten all that first aid knowledge I had.

But when he actually arrived, Fujino couldn't find a way to refuse.

It was a dark gray ruin, but one could still vaguely discern the former luxury of the courtyard.

The fire department had extinguished the flames and was helpless against the pillar supporting the girl in the corner.

He rushed forward and touched the girl's neck; she still felt a heartbeat.

"How long until the ambulance arrives?" Ukyo asked Hanayama Kaoru from behind, when he heard a gasp from the girl's direction.

Fujino, he's like a superman.

He lifted the pillars that three or five firefighters couldn't move by himself.

"Quick, pull that child out! Her leg might be broken, be careful!"

Lifting a thin-looking teenage girl was a piece of cake for these firefighters.

Soon, an ambulance from the affiliated hospital of Southeast University arrived.

The emergency doctor glanced at the girl lying on the door panel: "Fractures, accompanied by extensive burns, quick, quick, risk of infection!"

Watching the ambulance drive away, Ukyo sighed, "I'm so sorry to have dragged you into this, Fujino-san."

Fujino wiped his hands on Ukyo: "Don't forget to investigate Himegami Ayame. Oh, and remember today's allowance, Ukyo-san."

"Himemiya Ayame?" Hanayama Kaoru, who had been silent, suddenly widened her beautiful eyes, her chest, which had just calmed down, heaving rapidly again. "It was definitely Himemiya Ayame's doing!"

"Um?"

Kaoru Hanayama seemed to have found a clue: "I just tracked them down here, and then a fire broke out? What a coincidence!"

Ukyo waved his hand to interrupt Hanayama's narration: "There is no evidence, not even a witness's testimony. Don't say such things."

These words made Fujino fall into deep thought, and he didn't realize what they meant until he sat down at his workstation in the hospital.

He's not a member of the Metropolitan Police Department; he's just a doctor, so there's no need for him to talk about the chain of evidence.

If this fire was indeed a smokescreen put out by Himegami Ayame to mislead the public...

That's too blatant disregard for human life, too... bizarre.

A woman who takes pleasure in instigating crime?

What kind of born evil Himegami family brat is this?

But soon, he realized something was wrong.

My colleagues all seemed to be talking about today's fire.

He called out to Tsuchimikado, "Hey, Tsuchimikado-kun, what are you all talking about?"

"Fujino-senpai, didn't you know?" Tsuchimikado lowered his voice, "We admitted a patient to the emergency room today."

"It's said that Superman rescued it. He lifted that one-ton beam with just one hand."

Fujino asked seriously, "Does it really weigh a ton? I think it's probably at most 500 kg."

"It's absolutely true, Fujino-senpai!" Tsuchimikado gestured with his arms around the nameplate. "That crossbeam must be almost 50cm in diameter!"

"Impossible, absolutely impossible." Fujino waved his hand. "30cm at most, how could anyone use 50cm of wood for the crossbeam?"

"You might not believe it, but that kid's leg was broken." Tsuchimikado curled his lip. "I heard the doctors from the First Surgery Department are having a big meeting right now."

"Wait a minute, how do you know so much, senpai?" Tsuchimikado suddenly realized something and was about to ask when Koki Takanashi's voice came from behind him.

"Tsuchimikado! Fujino! Is this work time for you to gossip like this?"

She didn't have to see patients today. She was wearing a neat women's suit, and the cinched waistline made many resident doctors unable to look away.

This naturally included Tsuchimikado, whose chubby face was slightly flushed, and he would occasionally steal a glance at Takanashi: "Yes! Takanashi-senpai."

"Takanashi-senpai, isn't this all about caring about the big and small things at the hospital?" Fujino scratched his head and chuckled.

"Stop talking nonsense. I've let you get involved in all this big and small stuff this time." She pouted. "Come with me. Professor Kasai wants you to be at the venue too."

Despite her doubts, Fujino got up and followed Takanashi toward the conference room.

But the further Fujino walked, the more he felt something was wrong.

This is the conference room for the entire college meeting...

What exactly happened? Why is there such a big commotion?

"Senior, this is the direction of the entire hospital's conference room—"

"It's the conference room." Takanashi said impatiently, pushing the door open.

Fujino's pupils contracted slightly.

Inside, a row of people sat by the window, including the professor of the First Surgery Department, two assistant professors, five specialist doctors, and more than ten resident doctors.

Sitting opposite him were Professor Kasai, Assistant Professor Kobe, another specialist, and two other specialists from his department.

Near the entrance sat several professors and assistant professors from the First Internal Medicine Department...

Goodness, all the specialists from the First Surgery Department, the First Internal Medicine Department, and the Psychiatry Department have arrived.

Is it to treat the Emperor's illness?

Then he saw the photos posted on the huge whiteboard at the very front of the conference room.

My doubts only deepened.

It's the little girl he just rescued today.

Hey! Who on earth is she?!
