The guards reported finding a clear trail of footprints leading into the wilderness and pointing towards Lorton.

At least part of the journey, Io walked it on his own two feet.

Roan's initial guess was something like "the resurrection of the undead," with the legendary knight's remains being manipulated by cultists to attack humans.

in spite of

As for his purpose, Roan ordered the guards to remove the armor, which was like a black iron can, and only assemble the lower half of the skeleton, waiting for the skeleton to stand up.

Even though only half of his body remained, Io was not "dead".

After a while, the mutilated half of the body and hands began to tremble.

Roan ordered everyone to retreat; even as nothing but skeletons, the Black Iron Knights' power was not something they could easily approach.

Soon, the trembling skeleton began to crawl forward inch by inch.

"This—" Levi stared at Roan in disbelief. "Roan, can you see that? He's still moving!"

Luo An nodded, watching quietly as the skeleton crawled into Mary Jane's grave, paused for a moment, and then continued on.

Luo An frowned slightly, unable to understand why it had anything to do with Mary Jane's grave.

After going through all the stories that Luo An knew, he could not find a reasonable explanation.

Suddenly, golden light flashed before Luo An's eyes.

The Monkey Typewriter pieced together knowledge that Luo An was unaware of.

A strong soul attracts a weak soul.

Upon seeing the knowledge pieced together by the "monkey typewriter," Luo An was stunned. A powerful soul, speaking of Mary Jane?

What kind of powerful soul was that woman? Luo An killed her with a single blow.

While Roan was puzzled, Io's skeleton provided the answer.

The broken bones were dug out of the blackened soil in the grave, which contained dried, blackened blood.

Io's bones absorbed the blood, and the scattered bones, drawn together by some force, began to tremble.

Luo An gestured to the guards to leave it alone and wait a while. The bones and armor began to reassemble, forming a headless knight who slowly moved forward.

"Interesting." Unlike the terrified guards, Roan looked in the direction Io was heading, towards the border.

This guy seems to have absorbed some kind of power, which has revitalized him and propelled him toward a certain destination.

Through the monkey typewriter, Roan learned that the power was the "soul".

From Mary Jane's grave.

Wait, where did Mary Jane go?

Luo An suddenly realized something was wrong. There was only Mary Jane's blood in the grave; where were her bones?

Roan initially thought Mary Jane was buried deeper, but it seems she's already gone?!

Thinking of that strange woman, Luo An would associate her with the God of Black, and his brows furrowed even deeper.

What exactly is the "Black God"?

Where did Mary Jane go again?

"Lord Levi, is there a miracle of bringing the dead back to life?" Roan asked, turning his head.

"No," Levi answered almost immediately. "There's no such thing."

"Luo An, remember this: let the dead not be a miracle, but a desecration."

Luo An hadn't expected Levi's reaction to be so strong, so he could only nod. "I understand."

If Mary Jane didn't come back to life, then she didn't die.

That day, Roan did indeed pierce Mary Jane with his sword. It wasn't an illusion.

Such a wound cannot be treated with reconstructive surgery.

At least the "Great Restoration Spell".

But that woman could never have hidden a gem; Roan had checked.

The only possibility is that Mary Jane knows the "Great Restoration Spell"?!

This conjecture stunned Roan for a moment. Could that filthy woman have used a miracle, or even a Great Restoration spell?!

Unless there is a miracle that Luo An is completely unaware of, this is the only possibility.

After a moment's hesitation, Luo An sent a guard to report to Lorton Church, instructing them to find the villagers of Riverwood and inquire about Mary Jane's whereabouts, and to do so overnight!

As for Io's remains, they continued to move forward while Roan pondered, their destination unknown.

He undoubtedly absorbed the "powerful soul" left behind by Mary Jane. But this was far from enough to sustain him forward.

After thinking for a moment, Luo An instructed the guards to bring over some dragon bones and place them in front of Io.

Sure enough, the guards brought the dragon bones, and Io began to shift his target, moving closer to the dragon bones.

Place the dragon bone at Io's feet and wait patiently for Io to touch the skeleton.

As Io touched the skeleton and absorbed the "soul," he moved forward again, this time at a much faster pace.

Reaching out to pick up the dragon bone, Luo An crushed it to pieces with a slight squeeze.

"Interesting." Luo An exclaimed in surprise, rubbing the dust in his hands in disbelief. With a gentle blow, the cool white dust dissipated in the wind.

That's dragon bone; even Luo An would have difficulty leaving a mark on it.

After the "soul" dissipated, the dragon bones just shattered like that?!

It seems we've glimpsed a corner of some enormous secret.

Although its full form is unclear, it has a strong connection with gods, monsters, and knights.

Luo An immediately reported his discovery to Levi.

More than Roan's discovery, Levi was surprised at how Roan connected those seemingly unrelated things.

"Luo An, how do you know the skeleton can move? How do you know the dragon bones can make Lord Io move?"

"Damn, you're a genius!"

Luo An chuckled, then said seriously, "Lord Levi, please let me handle this matter. Don't make a fuss about it."

Mary Jane possesses immense power, but she clearly did not want to reveal it to Roan, which is why she chose to fake her death.

If Mary Jane knew that Roan was investigating her secrets, Roan would probably be in big trouble.

"Of course," Levi nodded.

"Kid, don't forget, you're the captain of the guard."

With Levi's approval, another perplexing problem arose regarding the construction of the defense line.

Luo An increasingly realized that the God of Black was definitely not a fabricated deity.

The events in Riverwood Village back then were definitely not that simple.

Unfortunately, Grog is dead, and some secrets can only be discovered by Roan himself.

I don't know how much longer Io will have to travel, or where it will end up.

We can only wait patiently.

After a deep yawn, Luo An temporarily set aside his curiosity and returned to his tent.

He wanted to review his alchemy knowledge one last time, but the moment he lay down, he fell into a coma.

Since being bathed in dragon blood, Luo An hasn't closed his eyes once.

.......

Luo An was awakened by the noisy shouting.

Rubbing my eyes, I lifted the tent flap and saw villagers shouting in front of the guards' camp.

Luo An was quite annoyed at finally getting a good night's sleep and beckoned Bei Dan over.

"What are these guys doing, acting crazy in front of the camp? Kick them out."

Pétain looked helpless. "They're here to see you."

"Looking for me?" Luo An pointed to himself. "What for?"

"Nothing much, just praying to Lord Roan," Pétain shrugged. "Following Lord Roan's instructions, I sprinkled dragon blood on the land, and only three days later, the wheat fields sprouted green shoots."

"They are thanking Roan—my lord," he sang loudly, one hand on his chest and the other outstretched to Roan.

"Roan Yunina. Oh, one who is watched over by the great mother, please bestow more miracles upon me."
