As dawn broke, Luo An emerged from the tent and yawned.

Even in spring, the weather is still cold. Last night, fog rolled into the woods, and the fog settled on the ground.

The damp mud was mixed with blackened wolf blood and smelled fishy.

Ya Yang hadn't gotten up yet; her tent was right next to Luo An's, and Luo An could feel it.

Just as he was wondering whether to wake Ya Yang, Jackie's tent suddenly moved.

"You're up early, sir." Jackie yawned.

Roan nodded. "Didn't you sleep well, Lord Jackie?"

"It was really noisy last night. Thanks to you, I slept well." Jackie's gaze fell on the campsite, and he was immediately startled.

Several wolf carcasses hung around the camp, some perched in trees, others half-bodied, and some even just heads. Their eyes were wide with terror.

This scene was like hell.

It's hard to imagine what happened last night while he was asleep.

"This is--"

"There were wolves," Luo Andao said. "I've taken care of them. It's too late to clean up the bodies. Hope I didn't disturb you."

"No, no, the wolf isn't the point." Jackie didn't know what to say for a moment.

It's hard to imagine what happened last night while he was asleep.

He sorted out his thoughts.

"Sir, are you saying that wolves bypassed the perimeter and attacked the camp last night?"

"Then, you took care of them."

Jackie's voice suddenly grew louder.

"That's it? Not even a sound?!"

Good heavens, how is this possible? As a trainee knight, Jackie believed he could kill several wolves.

But to do it silently, the only possibility is that Luo An killed several wolves instantly, without even giving the wolves time to howl.

The thought of this possibility sent chills down Jackie's spine.

That's outrageous! What's the strength of this knight? He's probably only a tiny bit away from being a Black Iron Knight.

"There was some noise." Luo An smiled. "Perhaps you were too tired and didn't notice."

Too tired?

Jackie doesn't deny that he's very confident in his limits and that he does indeed sleep quite soundly.

But he was certain that he would wake up immediately as soon as the bell rang.

Jackie suddenly realized a fact that sent chills down his spine.

There was no sound from the cordon last night.

The pack of wild beasts stealthily made their way to the camp.

Just thinking about it, Jackie's back was already soaked with cold sweat on this chilly morning.

What's going on? Damn it, are these wolves humans in disguise? They're so smart.

Luo An noticed that Jackie's gaze fell on the warning line, and his face turned pale instantly.

"Don't worry, it's not Lord Jackie's fault," Roan comforted him.

"These wolves must be related to magical beasts; they're very intelligent."

If it weren't for Luo An's sudden inspiration, he wouldn't have believed that a pack of wolves could cross the warning line that even he could hardly detect and enter the camp.

However, even magical beasts are not much different from wild beasts.

It's just that the teeth are longer and bigger.

As long as [Beast Slayer] can be triggered, it's not a big problem.

Jackie was horrified. It wasn't a wild beast, but a monster?

He felt even more ashamed, especially when he thought about what he had said last night.

As a veteran self-defense knight, he even said not to worry, nothing would happen, but he was saved by a knight who had just won a bronze medal.

"Sigh." Jackie sighed deeply, thinking he should consider retiring.

Frustrated as I am, the requests still need to be made.

Luo An kicked Ya Yang's tent; the guy was still in bed.

"Get up, Ya Yang, pack your things and get ready to leave."

The tent stirred, and Ya Yang rubbed her eyes and peeked out sleepily. "Wait a minute, I didn't sleep well."

"Sleeping like a dead pig." Roan was no longer a guard protecting the Goddess Knight, so he showed no politeness whatsoever.

"Please hurry!"

"What's the rush? It's not that I was sleeping too soundly, it's that you woke up too early."

Ya Yang let out a groan, glanced at the blood-soaked camp, was startled, and then quickly returned to normal.

She wasn't surprised, because Luo An was there. Even if she was fast asleep, Luo An would take care of her.

Luo An sighed, gave Jackie an apologetic look, then packed up his tent and prepared to set off.

After tidying up the tents, Jackie used the residual heat of the campfire to warm up the dry rations.

After packing Ya Yang's luggage, the group set off again. Since there was no carriage, Jackie suggested taking a shortcut to reach the village faster.

Luo An had no objection. As a trainee knight, no matter how difficult the road was, it was nothing.

As the group moved further and further away from Lorton, the road gradually disappeared.

Along the way, the golden light of Luo An flickered from time to time.

Robbers, beasts, cultists lurk in the shadows.

Whenever this happened, Luo An would look up and notice that there were rabbits or wolves watching him in the distance, but he did not try to avoid them.

Luo An felt unwell and even more confused.

The resurgence of Warcraft: have the beasts gained intelligence?

So what? Even if wild animals become as intelligent as humans, they are still wild animals in the end.

Let alone Luo An, even a normal villager could defeat a wolf with a pitchfork or a sickle.

The only difference is the degree of injury.

But in less than two days, Luo An gave up the idea.

The three arrived at a village with only two or three farming households, a place that wasn't even marked on a map.

Jackie said he knew the villagers and would occasionally commission them to buy stones, sometimes earning a few copper coins if he was lucky.

He could ask the villagers to apply for permission for the three of them to rest. Although there were no soft beds, it was still better than sleeping in the wild, and they could also replenish their food supplies.

Having said that, there's no reason not to go.

The three of them followed the path to the edge of the village. It was dusk, and the wheat fields outside the village still had the Tseel banners, which prayed for a good harvest, standing there, but there was no sign of them being tended to.

"That's strange," Jackie said, somewhat puzzled.

"Why is nobody here?"

"Asleep?" Luo An didn't see any firelight either.

The two exchanged a glance, and at the same time, a bad feeling arose in their hearts.

"Perhaps they went to Lorton for refuge." Roan had met the villagers who had taken refuge in Lorton in the past.

That being said, Roan wasn't entirely convinced; the prayer flags had clearly only been raised recently. If the villagers went to Lorton Town for refuge, they might very well run into Roan and his group.

Luo An took a deep breath, drew his longsword from under his robe, and slowly approached the dark and dilapidated village.

Before you even get close, an indescribable stench assaults your senses.

The splattered blood and buzzing flies hinted at the house's impending doom.

Luo An hesitated for a moment, then turned to Ya Yang and gestured for her to stay put. Luo An then went forward to check on her.

Ya Yang's face turned pale, and she used lip reading to warn Luo An to be careful.

Luo An and Jackie arrived at the door, took a deep breath, and pushed it open.

Several rabbits were suddenly startled and jumped off a fallen cow, disappearing into the wild.

Jackie breathed a sigh of relief and forced a smile. "It was a cow. Damn, have those rabbits gone mad, actually trying to eat a cow?"
