Ye Bingwen took a deep breath.

"Director Fang, I need to demonstrate the equipment."

"Just tell me what you need."

"An oscilloscope, a signal generator, and an adjustable power supply—I brought my own prototype."

Director Fang paused for a moment.

"Are you sure you want to demonstrate this live in front of the experts? What if something goes wrong—"

"Nothing will go wrong."

Ye Bingwen's tone was very confident.

"Director Fang, this is the opportunity I've been waiting for."

After hanging up the phone, Ye Bingwen spent the entire afternoon working in the workshop.

He disassembled the prototype and re-inspected it, only reassembling it after confirming there were no problems.

Master Li, who was watching from the side, couldn't help but ask a question.

"Xiao Ye, are you going to the exam hall?"

"It's even stricter than an exam. The three senior experts are all incredibly skilled."

Are you nervous?

Ye Bingwen put down the screwdriver in his hand and smiled.

"Don't be nervous. I'm not afraid of anyone checking my motor."

The next morning, Ye Bingwen took the prototype and a stack of technical documents to the Provincial Defense Industry Office.

Director Fang was waiting at the door. When he saw him arrive, he waved.

"Xiao Ye, over here."

Ye Bingwen pushed the cart over.

Director Fang looked him up and down.

You look quite smart today.

Ye Bingwen looked down at himself—the Zhongshan suit that Zheng Shuyun had specially ironed for him last night.

"This outfit was my wife's idea. She said it was for a report to the senior expert, and it needed to be dignified."

Director Fang led him up to the third floor.

Several people were already seated in the meeting room.

Three elderly people, two men and one woman, sat in the main seat. They were all wearing worn-out Zhongshan suits and had pens clipped to their chests.

Director Fang gave a brief introduction in a low voice.

"The one in the middle is Professor Cai, the former director of the Electrical Engineering Teaching and Research Section at Harbin Military Engineering Institute. The one on the left is Dean Sun, the former director of the Provincial Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering."

"The one on the right is Chief Engineer Cui, from the Northeast Electric Power Administration."

Professor Cai, wearing reading glasses, was looking through the materials on the table.

Hearing the door open, he looked up and glanced at Ye Bingwen.

"You're Ye Bingwen?"

"Hello, Professor Cai."

"Please sit down."

Ye Bingwen sat down at one side of the conference table and placed the prototype on it.

He took a stack of documents out of his canvas bag and laid them out in front of him.

He had just put the documents down when the meeting room door was pushed open again.

Ma Li walked in, followed by Gu Ming and another woman in her forties.

Ma Li's expression was not good. He glanced around the conference room and sat down opposite the head of the table.

Gu Ming sat next to him, his eyes fixed on Ye Bingwen.

Director Fang chaired the meeting.

"Distinguished experts, today's meeting is a technical review meeting organized by the Provincial Defense Industry Office."

"The main purpose is to conduct a technical review of the motor quality inspection report issued by the Provincial Department of Industry's Quality Inspection Division."

"The report number and contents are all available to the experts."

"Next, please welcome Comrade Ye Bingwen from Nangang Electric Machinery Factory to give a technical presentation."

Ye Bingwen walked to the prototype.

"Distinguished experts, I will not read from the materials today. I will give three demonstrations, and after you have watched the demonstrations, you can compare them with the quality inspection report."

"You'll naturally understand what's going on."

Professor Cai took off his reading glasses and glanced at him.

"Young man, you have confidence. Okay, you demonstrate."

Ye Bingwen turned on the oscilloscope and signal generator, and connected the motor prototype to the power supply.

"The first demonstration is insulation resistance."

Following standard operating procedures, he first discharged the motor before starting the measurements.

The waveform on the oscilloscope was jumping steadily.

"The measured insulation resistance is 1.8 MΩ, which is far higher than the national standard requirement of 0.5 MΩ."

He placed the megohmmeter on the table and turned to Gu Ming.

"Mr. Gu, the figure you wrote on the quality inspection report is 0.8 MΩ. May I ask how you measured it?"

There was a moment of silence in the conference room.

Gu Ming's face flushed red instantly.

Ma Li spoke up for him.

"Director Ye, it's normal for testing methods to differ. Different operators may get different readings—"

"Director Ma, are the 'different reading values' you mentioned the difference between 1.8 and 0.8?"

Ye Bingwen's voice wasn't loud, but every word was clear.

"The difference between 1.8 and 0.8 is more than double. This is not an operational error; it's data fabrication."

Ma Li's face darkened.

"Ye Bingwen, watch your words!"

"My wording was fine. The problem is with the report."

Ye Bingwen turned to the three experts.

"Now I'll demonstrate the second one. The motor vibration spectrum."

He took out the spectrum and handed it to Professor Cai.

"This is the vibration spectrum diagram I measured using the spectrum analysis circuit I built myself."

"There is a small peak with an amplitude of 0.005 millimeters around 3 kilohertz."

Professor Cai took the picture and looked at it for a few seconds.

"You built the circuit yourself?"

"Yes. It was built using transistors, and the charge amplifier was made by myself."

Professor Cai handed the diagram to Dean Sun, who was standing next to him.

"continue."

Ye Bingwen turned on the oscilloscope, connected the sensor to the motor, and started the motor.

The waveform on the oscilloscope started to jump.

"Experts, please take a look. This is the operating frequency spectrum of my motor. The peak value around 3,000 Hz is here."

He tapped a spot on the oscilloscope screen with the tip of his pen.

"This peak value is very small and will not affect the normal operation of the motor."

"Therefore, I suspect that Engineer Gu may not have noticed this peak value during the testing."

"But in his report, he described the problem as 'excessive vibration'."

Ye Bingwen put down his pen.

"How can a peak value that wasn't even detected be considered exceeding the limit? This isn't a technical error; it's fabricated."

The meeting room fell silent again.

Chief Engineer Cui was the first to speak.

"Young man, could I take a look at your spectrum analysis circuit?"

"Of course. I brought the circuit diagram today, and the original components are on the table for all the experts to review at any time."

Chief Engineer Cui picked up the circuit diagram, glanced at it, and nodded.

Professor Cai put down the materials in his hand and looked at Ye Bingwen.

"Young man, what is your third demonstration?"

Ye Bingwen took out the last document from his bag, a handwritten technical analysis report.

"The third one is not a demonstration, but a logic vulnerability analysis."

He turned to the third page of the report.

"In Engineer Gu's quality inspection report, a total of five non-conforming items were listed. I analyzed these five items one by one and found a very interesting phenomenon - all five non-conforming items were concentrated in the testing process that could be adjusted by humans."

"Experts, a quality inspection report shows that all items that can be manipulated are substandard."

"All items that cannot be manually adjusted passed. The probability of this distribution is statistically almost zero."

Ma Li sat there, his face pale.

Professor Cai took off his reading glasses.

"Ye Bingwen, leave a copy of these materials with me."

"It's all ready, one copy for each expert."

Director Fang coughed once.

"Distinguished experts, that concludes today's presentation and explanation."

"Please have the experts submit a written conclusion within one week of your subsequent technical review comments to the Provincial Defense Industry Office."
