78: Bringing his wife and children to Harbin Institute of Technology

Chapter 90 is fine too; everyone gets what they need.

The three of them were each busy with their own things, quietly.

Ye Bingwen finished the last problem on definite integrals and closed his notebook.

An'an had already fallen asleep on his lap, with the grease from the braised pork still clinging to her lips.

Zheng Shuyun reached out and took An'an from her.

"You keep reading, I'll carry her back to sleep."

"Almost there. Watch for another half hour."

Zheng Shuyun carried An'an away.

Ye Bingwen reopened the textbook and turned to the chapter on mechanical principles.

He's still not very familiar with calculating gear displacement coefficients, so he needs to do a few more practice problems.

Ye Bingwen put down his pen, stood up, and stretched his neck.

He walked to the window and looked at the outline of the new factory in the distance.

Tomorrow is another day.

The next morning, when Ye Bingwen arrived at the factory, Chen An's bicycle was already parked at the entrance.

The sound of the press running could be heard from the workshop, much more stable than a few days ago.

"Uncle Ye, you've arrived!"

Liu Xiaojun patted the dust off his knees.

"The first prototype of the second round of trials is already finished; it's over there."

Ye Bingwen looked in the direction he was pointing.

There were three dark brown composite material boards on the workbench, about the same size as last time.

But the surface looks smoother and the edges are more regular.

"Engineer Chen said this batch is better than the last batch."

Liu Xiaojun picked up the top board and handed it over.

Ye Bingwen took it and looked at it over and over.

It's definitely better than last time; there are almost no bubbles on the surface.

"Xiao Chen, how's the data for this batch?"

Ye Bingwen put the board back.

Chen An stood up from beside the press machine.

"It hasn't been tested yet; it needs to be taken back to the lab. But judging from its appearance and feel, it's much better than the first batch."

"Slowing down the heating rate significantly improved the resin wetting effect."

Chen An turned a page of his notebook.

"I drew the temperature curve and will show it to Professor Cai later."

"Thanks a lot."

"It's not hard work."

Chen An smiled.

"Professor Cai said that if this data can be written into a paper, my graduation thesis will be settled."

Ye Bingwen also smiled.

It turns out that Chen An was working so hard not only because of the task assigned by Professor Cai, but also because of his own ulterior motives.

That's fine, everyone gets what they need.

"Then you guys continue, I'll go check on the construction site."

At the construction site of the new factory, Director Sun was leading the workers to lay the last few roof panels.

The rivet gun rattled as several workers stood on the roof, safety ropes around their waists.

Ye Bingwen looked up for a while and saw that the roof had been mostly covered.

Once the roof is paved, the doors and windows are installed, and the floor is finished, the equipment can be moved in.

"Xiao Ye!"

Director Sun poked his head out from the roof.

"The roof panels will be laid by the afternoon! The doors will be installed tomorrow!"

"Director Sun, when will the ground be prepared?"

"The day after tomorrow. The ground needs to be cured for at least ten days after it's finished. Equipment can only be brought in after the curing is complete."

Director Sun wiped his sweat.

"Don't worry, it's no use worrying. If the ground isn't completely dry, and heavy equipment is placed on it, it'll crack. Who will you complain to then?"

Ye Bingwen knew that Director Sun was telling the truth.

As he came out of the construction site, he ran into Wang Guoqiang returning from outside, carrying a cardboard box.

"Director Ye, I've bought the electronic components that Engineer Chen requested."

Wang Guoqiang placed the cardboard box on the ground. Inside, resistors, capacitors, operational amplifiers, and a thyristor were neatly arranged.

"Didn't we say we needed to order the thyristor?"

"I went to several stores, and finally found it at the motor factory's retail store. They had a few left in their warehouse, so I bought them all."

Wang Guoqiang closed the box.

"Is this enough?"

"That's enough. Let Xiao Chen check what's missing and then we'll get more."

Wang Guoqiang carried the box to the workshop.

My pager vibrated.

Ye Bingwen looked down and saw it was the number of the old factory's gatehouse in the countryside.

Ye Bingwen returned the message.

"Bingwen, that's me, Yongqiang."

Liu Yongqiang's voice came from the other end of the phone, mixed with the noise of machinery.

"Let me tell you about what's happening in the countryside. All the orders from last month have been fulfilled, and the customers are very satisfied."

"They said they'd continue the cooperation next month. But we're running low on steel, and the composite material materials haven't arrived yet. Will we accept next month's orders?"

"Don't answer it yet."

Ye Bingwen said.

"Clear out the existing inventory and perform maintenance on the equipment. Once I successfully trial-produce the new materials, I'll arrange the next batch."

"Okay. There's one more thing."

Liu Yongqiang paused.

"How's Xiaojun doing with you?"

"Well done. He learns very quickly; Engineer Chen has praised him several times."

"That's good. His father passed away early, and his mother raised him alone, which wasn't easy. Please keep a close eye on him for me, and make sure he doesn't go astray."

Ye Bingwen understood the meaning behind Liu Yongqiang's words.

Liu Yongqiang entrusted Xiaojun to him, which was both a sign of trust and a responsibility.

"Don't worry. Xiao Jun is a reliable and hardworking kid; he'll amount to something in the future."

"I'm relieved to hear that."

Liu Yongqiang hung up the phone after he finished speaking.

Ye Bingwen put down the receiver and glanced into the workshop.

Liu Xiaojun was squatting next to the press adjusting parameters, while Chen An was giving him pointers.

The two of them, one teaching and the other learning, became increasingly adept at working together.

At lunchtime, Ye Bingwen went to the cafeteria to get his food and sat down to eat with Chen An and Liu Xiaojun.

"Xiao Chen, when will that PID controller be ready?"

Ye Bingwen picked up a piece of cabbage with his chopsticks.

"Once we have all the components, we can do it. Professor Cai's lab has the blueprints ready, I'll go back this weekend and solder a circuit board."

"I can install it and try it out next Monday."

Chen An ate a mouthful of rice.

"After installing the PID, temperature fluctuations can be controlled within plus or minus one degree, and product quality will be more stable."

"That's good."

Ye Bingwen turned to Liu Xiaojun.

"Xiaojun, after the PID controller is installed, you'll learn how to adjust it from Engineer Chen. From now on, this will be our factory's own technology."

"Understood, Uncle Ye."

After finishing his meal, Chen An rode his bicycle back to school.

In the afternoon, Ye Bingwen went to class.

Professor Zhao was lecturing on the combination deformation in mechanics of materials. The content wasn't difficult, but he listened very attentively.

I took two pages of notes, and then did some practice problems after class.

The bell rang, and Professor Zhao called him over.

"Ye Bingwen, wait a moment."

Ye Bingwen walked to the edge of the podium.

Professor Zhao is tidying up his lecture notes.

"You didn't daydream in class today, did you?"

"no."

"That's good."

Professor Zhao tucked the lecture notes under his arm.

"Do your best on the final exams, don't embarrass me."

"understood."

Professor Zhao waved his hand and left.

After leaving the school, Ye Bingwen rode his bicycle to the factory.

The roof panels of the new factory building have all been laid.

Director Sun was leading the workers to pack up their tools, preparing to leave work.

"Xiao Ye, the roof paving is finished. We'll install the doors and windows tomorrow."

Director Sun came over and offered him a cigarette.

Ye Bingwen took it but didn't order it.

"Director Sun, the ground curing will take ten days. Can it be shortened?"

"cannot."

Director Sun was resolute.
