Chapter 14 The Descent of Divine Favor

The orb of light above the Krim Cathedral shone even brighter, making the city of Castel as bright as day.

People throughout the city almost all stopped what they were doing and looked toward the cathedral.

Whether it was surprise, anger, or cheers...

Countless members of the Church of Dawn bowed their heads, crossed their arms over their shoulders, and whispered in response, "Praise be to Dawn!"

For a time, the word "dawn" echoed throughout the entire city-state of Castor.

At that moment, a golden beam of light pierced the dim sky and projected onto the sphere of light, causing the silvery-white sphere to condense a layer of golden radiance.

Immediately afterwards, a murmur arose.

It was as if someone was whispering in your ear, yet you could "hear" the authority in their voice.

"Thorp, Sien's, Deen's, Nisolaresi..."

Upon hearing the whisper, Wayne frowned. Was this González?

He tried to understand the meaning of the words, "Dawn, eternal light... what descends, what carries what... death?"

"What on earth is all this?"

Even someone fluent in González couldn't understand the meaning of these words.

Really...

Just then, night fell!

A huge red moon slowly appeared in the night sky, its dim, reddish moonlight shining down.

In an instant, the deep, resonant murmur ceased.

The golden pillar of light dissipated.

The silvery-white orb dimmed under the red moonlight, becoming less dazzling.

"dawn!"

As the sound rang out, the ball of light disappeared, leaving only a slender figure lying horizontally in mid-air.

"Huh? Why are you wearing... that's armor, isn't it?"

When Wayne saw this, he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. Wasn't he naked before?

Not long after, the figure slowly floated down, and at the same time, the strange phenomenon above the cathedral disappeared.

It seems that even the brilliance of dawn must remain low-key under the red moon.

[Your spirit has been cleansed by listening to the divine voice of an unknown being. Evaluation: A baptism for some, but blasphemy for others. Reward: Survival Points +3, Spirit Level -1 (temporary).]

When Wayne saw the message, he felt a sharp pain in his head and couldn't help but clutch his head and scream.

"What the hell? Are you referring to me for blaspheming certain people?"

Isn't it baptism?

Why did my spirit level get wiped out?

After a long while, Wei En finally calmed down, angrily closed the window, and muttered curses under his breath.

"What kind of garbage divine voice is this? This piece of junk, where's the divinity in it?"

The fact that they didn't curse him after deducting one level from his mental level is already a favor!

Wayne shook his head, secretly deciding that he would never give a second glance at any of the Dawn Church's activities again, no matter what.

But no matter what he thought, there was nothing he could do.

The lost spirit level cannot be regained...

Ding-dong.

At that moment, a familiar sound rang out, and the blue and white box began to flash.

Wayne opened the box with a puzzled look and found a few coins inside. He took them out and counted them: "3 shillings and 6 pence, this is..."

He then remembered that the letter from the school of thought had stated that he would receive a 10% discount on all knowledge exchanges.

"Unexpected windfall, what a good thing." Wayne smiled again.

Although it wasn't much money, it was still a pleasant surprise, which cheered him up again.

It's just a level 1 spirit level; there will be plenty of opportunities to level it up later.

With that in mind, he started the "typewriter" and transmitted in detail what he had just seen.

His intuition told him that what was happening at the Dawn Church today was definitely extraordinary.

"August 9, 1578 (Gregorian calendar), sunny."

"Today, a strange scene unfolded at the Krims Cathedral in the city-state of Castel: a beautiful, completely naked woman, enveloped in silvery light, floated into the air..."

In just five minutes, he completed a eloquent intelligence report, easily exceeding a thousand words.

This is big news, top-secret intelligence... We can't call him a pay thief this time, can we?

Wayne looked at the blue and white box with some anticipation. How much reward would Ghost give him for this kind of information?

If it were only 6pence, he would definitely not do it—are you kidding me?

Ding-dong.

A clear and melodious sound came from inside the blue and white box, and Wayne's mood immediately became excited.

He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he thought he heard countless coins jumping around in the box.

Click.

The box was opened.

"Hmm? One gold pound?"

Wayne stared in surprise at the gold pounds and an envelope in the box.

Although he had expected it, he did not expect the ghost to be so generous as to reward him with a gold pound.

This was the most reward he had ever received since he and his predecessor had served as intelligence officers!

"Very good, Wayne Loft, you've finally regained your sensitivity to the value of intelligence. I'm very satisfied with this intelligence."

"At the same time, I have decided to modify the details of the punishment tasks I previously issued."

"An additional task has been added—investigate the person who caused the strange phenomenon of 'divine favor descending,' along with the mysterious disappearances of people in the slums. Complete this within three days."

"After the mission is completed, not only will our department not hold you accountable for your previous mistakes, but we will also give you an extra reward."

"On the path of seeking knowledge, death is not the end—Olivia Tapea, Liaison Officer of the Intelligence Department of the Kingdom of Shattrath, Ghost School."

The school of thought defined the unusual phenomena appearing in the Church of Dawn as "the arrival of divine favor."

Wayne frowned as he looked at the word on the letter. He seemed to recall hearing it from Carly before; it referred to receiving the favor of the Lord of Dawn.

Could it be that the unknown being we just saw was the Lord of Dawn?

Does the divine voice refer to what He said?

Damn it, now I finally know who tricked him out of his level 1 mental stat.

But he had no intention of retaliating whatsoever...

That's a god! Even a single hair on his head could crush him. It's better to think about something more practical.

Wayne frowned as he looked at the new mission that appeared later.

Why would the Ghost School be interested in that person from the Church of Dawn?

However, compared to investigating the bizarre disappearance case in the slums, finding information about one person seemed exceptionally simple.

He has many ways to investigate "that person's" information.

The most direct way is to find someone from the Dawn Church, or ask someone who participated in the event at the cathedral at the time; that should give you a general idea.

But such a simple task took two extra days... Could it be that the liaison officer considered this task to be on the same level as the case in the slums?

Although Wei En was somewhat puzzled, he did not delve into it further.

This arrangement was also a good thing for him, giving him more time to investigate cases in the slums.

He had originally planned to use the Secret Service's resources tomorrow to investigate the missing persons cases in the slums.

If the Secret Investigation Division doesn't have relevant intelligence, he will personally take a walk around the slums.

But even if we do that, we still won't find any useful information...

Then he had one last trick up his sleeve—to blame it all on that monstrous, dark dog that was running rampant in the dead of night!

Whether the person was eaten or destroyed by some other being, the outcome is the same...

Dark Hound: Awoooooo!

(I feel offended!)
