Wizard: Surviving in the Steam Age with Points for Demon Hunter

Chapter 41 The Guide to Dawn

The morning sunlight shone through the wooden window into the attic, revealing two silhouettes beneath the thin, gray blanket.

With one head of black hair and one head of white hair peeking out from under the covers, she lay peacefully asleep on the bed.

Clang, clang clang...

The bells of Krims Cathedral rang eight times, reminding the still-sleeping residents of the city that dawn had arrived and they could safely go out and about.

Wei En's calm face furrowed slightly as he groggily opened his eyes. "It's dawn."

"Tina, get up."

Ok?

What was that sound?

Wayne turned his head and looked directly into Tina's empty eyes, so close...

He sat up abruptly, staring in astonishment at the white-haired girl. "Huh? Tina, what's wrong with you? What's wrong with me...?"

Tina blinked, calmly stood up, revealing a patch of fair skin...

"Pfft, cough cough cough..."

When Wei En saw this scene, he almost choked on his own saliva. What was going on? How dare they not wear anything at all?

He quickly touched his body and looked down.

Thank goodness, thank goodness, he still has his clothes on...

The white-haired girl calmly put on a black pleated skirt, her eyes still fixed on Wei En, seemingly unaware of the seriousness of the situation.

"Tina, what are you doing in my house?"

Tina misses Wayne.

Seeing that her expression remained unchanged, Wayne scratched his head, feeling numb... Should he believe her or not?

"Um, Tina, how old are you...?"

"Tina is sixteen years old, and Dawn allows her to have a partner."

Wei En's lips twitched. Underage...

Although his physical age is eighteen, the soul inside him is twenty-two...

However, he understood what Tina meant.

According to the covenant of the Church of Dawn, people in this world are considered adults once they are over sixteen years old.

But damn it, Tina's appearance makes it hard for him to associate her with the word "adult".

Wayne rubbed his furrowed brows and said with a troubled expression, "I remember Lacey told you yesterday that you're only allowed to follow me during work hours, so what's wrong with you...?"

"Tina doesn't know."

The white-haired girl spoke with great confidence; if she hadn't "heard" the fierce woman say such things, then she could say she didn't know.

"Okay, fine."

Wayne sighed helplessly; it seemed he really had no way to deal with Tina right now.

Putting aside whether he could win, his frail physique alone made him reluctant to lay a hand on her.

How do you scold someone?

Aside from their first meeting when the white-haired girl immediately revealed his secret as a wizard of the Ghost School, she treated him with utmost politeness afterwards...

They were at least very close in words.

"Um, Tina, could you turn around first? I need to change my clothes..."

Tina turned around immediately without any hesitation.

This obedience made Wei En's expression even more bitter; she was too, too obedient...

In no time, Wei En was dressed neatly, tidied his hair in front of the mirror, and made himself look more ordinary.

He didn't wear the Secret Investigation Bureau uniform, nor the gorgeous clothes issued by the Ghost School, but instead found a slightly oversized set of clothes from his predecessor and put them on.

Since he was going to the Kremlin Cathedral, he had to dress in a way that suited his lower-middle-class status.

This way, it won't attract too much attention.

"Tina, I have to go on a mission later. Wait for me at the Secret Investigation Division."

"Tina, together."

"Um?"

Wayne looked at Tina, who had somehow tugged at his clothes, and shook his head, saying, "No, there's only one dose of the Dawn's Radiance Potion, you can't go. Besides..."

"If Lacey finds out, I'm dead."

The white-haired girl looked up at him. "Tina doesn't want Wayne to die."

"So listen to me, wait for me in the office after breakfast."

"Tina knows."

Seeing that she agreed, Wei En patted her head and laughed, "That's right, keep it up from now on."

Right?

Tina felt the warmth emanating from above her head, like a ray of light shining into the darkness. Her indifferent expression flickered slightly. "Tina, keep it up."

"Let's go out to eat, and we'll buy some necessities while we're at it."

With that, Wayne activated the node switches of the defensive rune array one by one and took Tina out.

"Hey, Wayne, you're up so early..."

Yu An glanced at the white-haired girl following behind him and paused for a moment, then revealed an ambiguous expression on his face, "I didn't expect you to find a girlfriend so quickly, you have the style of mine back in the day."

Wayne locked the doors and windows, raised an eyebrow at him, and said, "Uncle Euan, I remember you said before that you have lovers on every island in the Cordoba Sea. I can't compare to you."

"Haha...that's all in the past, and it wasn't just the Cordoba Sea, but also the Chaltenland region..."

"What? Father." Carly stood behind him, her bright eyes fixed on him, and smiled gently and kindly.

"Quite a few... wait, when did I ever say I had a lover?" Yu An's smile froze, realizing he had been framed by Wei En.

Wayne looked at him mischievously, "Just a few days ago, I remember you told me not to tell Carly..."

"Father, you could have told me this," Carly said 'obediently.' "I'm going to church today to pray for you as we approach the dawn, and that you'll find a new lover soon."

"Ahem..." Yu An glared at Wei En, then quickly changed the subject, "Wei En, why are you dressed like that? Did the Secret Investigation Department fire you?"

Such an upright man, his lifelong reputation is ruined... It's all Wei En's fault, that bastard who repaid kindness with enmity.

No,

Wayne smiled shyly, as if what he had said before was just talk. "I've been praying to the dawn these past few days, and it seems I've gained some insights, so I'd like to go to the church with Carly to get tested."

Upon hearing his words, Yu'an's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "You? Dawn Prayer? Are you kidding me, you witch..."

But before he could finish speaking, Carly excitedly grabbed Wayne's hand. "Really? You've also become a believer under the glorious dawn?"

Looking at Carly so close to him, Wayne unconsciously moved closer. "Really, thanks to Carly, I finally had the courage to take this step. It's all thanks to you."

"That's wonderful, I knew it, the light of dawn will always shine upon you, Wayne."

"Oh, this..."

Yu'an panicked. "Silly girl, he's a wizard! He's a wizard of the Ghost School! How could he possibly be a follower of the Dawn? He's lying to you!"

How wicked! In order to get closer to the pearl of his family, he actually impersonated a follower of Dawn.

Wein didn't care what he thought, and looking down at Carly's bear—no, I mean the Holy Covenant in her hand—said, "Sister Carly, may I borrow this Holy Covenant?"

"This one? Of course."

Carly placed the Dawn Covenant in his hand and asked, "Wayne, you don't have a guide to the dawn yet, do you?"

"A guide?"

Yesterday, Lacey seemed to mention that when newcomers first enter the church grounds, Dawn Church arranges for a devout believer to guide them onto the right path.

"Not yet..."

"Then I'll take you there, Wayne."
