At Kunlong Airlines, there is only one situation where an instructor is addressed without any surname: Han Qi.
Han Qi is a key figure at Kunlong Airlines, and his voice is very distinctive; once you hear it a few times, you can usually remember it. As a result, he was recognized by the crew of his company as soon as he spoke over the radio.
Even though I was very reluctant to talk back to my own family, I thought it wouldn't be good to put on airs, since they were family after all.
"Hmm!" Han Qi didn't want to say anything more, so he just hummed in response, which was his way of greeting him.
"Approach, we are still in manual flight mode. If the trajectory deviates, we can abort the approach at any time," Han Qi said.
At this point, the aircraft is at the end of the DME arc and can soon establish flight path 19. At the final bend where the DME arc connects the five sides, it's not necessary to fly exactly along the flight path. A 30-degree angle can be used to intercept the flight path, depending on the situation.
Approach Control: "Manual flight? The captain is very steady! The trajectory looks perfect on my radar; I thought autopilot was working."
Han Qi paused for a moment, then said, "I didn't fly it."
Before approach control could speak, another crew member from Kunlong Aviation interjected, "Instructor, are you manually flying the DME arc? That's amazing!"
Hearing this nauseating flattery, Han Qi felt that neither of his co-pilots was truly useful. One had a fragile mentality that would crumble at the slightest provocation, while the other was openly fawning over their leader in broad daylight—undoubtedly shameful.
At this moment, Xu Xian paid no attention to external controls or the words of the Kunlong crew; all his attention was focused on piloting the aircraft.
In the final segment of the DME arc, the actual interception of the airway has begun. Xu Xian no longer needs to worry about following the DME arc exactly; he can now fly directly to the five-sided airway.
Of course, this process can only occur very close to the five-sided flight path. If the aircraft attempts to autonomously adjust its approach angle too early, it will cause it to deviate from its trajectory prematurely, which is not permitted.
When Xu Xian felt the time was about right, he began giving instructions again: "Flight guidance activated, set a 30-degree entry angle for me. Verify the flight path, frequency, and pre-positioning VOR/LOC!"
He felt that the plane's current position was the right time to intercept the airway, so he instructed Han Qi to turn the guidance back on, set a 30-degree entry angle, and intercept the five-sided airway.
Han Qi was extremely satisfied to find that Xu Xian was not affected by the radio communication at all and was still fully focused on flying. He then began to prepare for intercepting the flight path according to Xu Xian's instructions.
Just as Han Qi was busy, the voices of another crew member from the Kunlong flight came through the radio.
"Teacher, weren't you flying to Luoshui today? How come you're in Qianyang?"
Han Qi was cooperating well, but his own people kept talking nonsense in public, which immediately angered Han Qi.
After pre-setting the VOR/LOC, Han Qi said apologetically to Xu Xian, "I'm sorry!"
Before Xu Xian could figure out what was going on with this nonsensical apology, Han Qi launched an attack on him over the approach frequency.
"Crew 9446? So idle during approach? Holding a tea party on the control frequency? Go to the fleet after your flight today and collect your three-month grounding penalty." Han Qi wasn't finished with his rant; he added, "Disgraceful wretch!"
While it's not particularly common for familiar pilots to greet each other on air traffic control frequencies, it's nothing unusual. As long as it's not during peak hours and the channel isn't occupied for an extended period, air traffic control generally won't interfere.
However, after the Kunlong crew recognized Han Qi, a simple greeting would have been enough. Instead, they repeatedly called Han Qi over the control frequency.
The approach frequency isn't busy right now, but it's not a place to chat either!
Normally, Han Qi would simply tell such inconsiderate behavior to stop wasting their breath. But today, first he encountered a co-pilot with extremely poor mental fortitude, and then, compared to Xu Xian, he felt even more that his own crew was utterly useless. Finally, the Kunlong crew's behavior proved them right – they really were incompetent. Even their attempts at flattery backfired spectacularly!
Han Qi opened fire on his own aircraft on the approach control frequency, silencing all other aircraft on the frequency and even startling the controllers.
Actually, neither the other crews nor the air traffic controllers felt that the Kunlong Airlines crew was talking too much; they didn't suspect them of occupying the channel. After all, the frequency was quite quiet right now, and even the air traffic controllers chatted with Han Qi and his crew about autopilot.
It's far from the point where people would resort to verbal abuse in the street!
Knowing Han Qi's identity, the Kunlong crew, who were being scolded, realized that their attempt to get closer to him had backfired—like pulling the pin on a bomb. Even though Han Qi had publicly berated them by name on the frequency, they didn't dare utter a single word in rebuttal.
Seeing that there was no follow-up, other crews on some frequencies sighed that Kunlong Airlines' discipline was really strict! They scolded people in public, and the crew they scolded didn't dare to say a word.
They had hoped to just be bystanders, but their hopes were dashed, leaving them somewhat disappointed.
After Han Qi finished his rant, he was somewhat embarrassed and said to Xu Xian, "Please excuse my rudeness!"
Faced with this situation, Xu Xian really didn't know how to respond, so he just gave a dry laugh to brush it off.
Han Qi was incredibly annoyed. The more he compared himself to others, the more he felt his own family members were mediocre. He just regretted that Xu Xian wasn't with Kunlong Airlines. What future could he possibly have working for a small company like Xingyou Airlines?
Once the idea took hold, Han Qi's mind began to work.
"Channel intercepted!" After having some ulterior motives, Han Qi was momentarily distracted, and it was Xu Xian who reminded him when the channel was intercepted.
"Oh!" Han Qi snapped out of his daze. "Approaching, Star. Kunlong 9543, on course!"
Han Qi had been thinking about poaching talent from Xingyou Aviation, and finally gave it another try.
"Kunlong 9543, contact tower 129.35, goodbye!"
"129.35, goodbye, Kunlong 9543."
Before Han Qi could contact the control tower, Xu Xian interjected, "Why don't you fly the rest of the way?"
"Hmm? Don't you want to fly anymore?" Han Qi asked curiously.
The DME arc has already been flown down, so the subsequent VOR approach shouldn't be too difficult even if it's manually piloted. After reaching a specific decision altitude, handing over control for landing is a more complete approach, isn't it?
"Hmm." Xu Xian didn't say anything more, just gave a faint "hmm".
He was too nervous when he flew the DME arc just now; his muscles were tense and his body was stiff the entire time. Maintaining this state for a while would lead to intense fatigue. Xu Xian's right wrist, which was gripping the steering wheel, was aching.
Xu Xian was still a bit inexperienced; under immense pressure, his body couldn't relax. In his current state, he didn't want to fly any further. He was there to help, not to risk his life!
Han Qi noticed Xu Xian rotating his right hand, clearly a sign of relaxation. Han Qi immediately understood Xu Xian's state and didn't insist. The subsequent VOR approach was therefore of little reference value.
Manually flying the DME arc is not something everyone can do, but compared to that, manually flying the VOR approach is much easier, and you really can't see much of anything.
"Take control for a moment, I'll take over once I contact the control tower." Han stood up and contacted the control tower: "Control tower, Kunlong 9543."
Star Travel Aviation Operations Control Center!
Qin Zongyang yawned and nestled in his chair, his eyes half-closed, looking extremely tired.
Last night he took a late flight, landing at 1:30 am. After waiting to disembark and going back to the duty building to wash up, he didn't actually go to sleep until almost 3 am.
As a result, I had to get up again at 8 a.m. to be on duty.
Originally, due to his age, he wasn't scheduled for many shifts. However, in order to project a positive image, he specifically requested that he not receive any special treatment. Nevertheless, the company unceremoniously assigned him a long evening shift followed by an early morning shift.
Qin Zongyang felt that if he did this, whether he could get the position of general manager of the flight department was another matter, but he would probably have to give up his old bones on duty.
In the operations control center, with so many people watching, it's inconvenient for him to just sleep. At most, he can only maintain a half-awake state, which is already the best he can do.
Suddenly, he vaguely heard the staff at the control room next to him answer a phone call.
At the time, Qin Zongyang wasn't thinking clearly and couldn't even hear what the staff were saying on the phone. But then, the staff mentioned two words that instantly brought Qin Zongyang back to his senses.
Xu Xian!?
"Oh, okay, I'll explain the situation to the dispatch team. We'll cooperate fully if any problems arise later," the operations control staff member said.
The staff member hung up the phone and suddenly felt something was off. When he turned his head, he met Qin Zongyang's bloodshot, wide-open eyes.
"What's going on?"
The staff were taken aback by Qin Zongyang's sudden and sharp demeanor, feeling a little scared: "Kunlong Airlines just informed us that the co-pilot of their flight 9543 is incapacitated. Fortunately, one of our trainees, Xu Xian, was on the plane and helped replace him. Xu Xian has a flight mission in Luoshui later, and Kunlong Airlines asked us to adjust our flight schedule in advance. They said that after landing, the Administration will question him, and Xu Xian will likely have to participate as well, so he probably won't be able to go to Luoshui today."
"The co-pilot is incapacitated? Kunlong? Xu Xian went to help?" Qin Zongyang's mind was still foggy, and he couldn't quite put his finger on these keywords.
How did Xu Xian get involved with the Kunlong?
"Mr. Qin, it was Xu Xianjia's crew who flew on Kunlong Airlines' plane." The staff member mentioned this briefly when Qin Zongyang didn't react.
Qin Zongyang suddenly realized that he had just woken up from a daze and his head was still a bit fuzzy; he hadn't even figured out such a simple question.
"Is there anything wrong with that Kunlong flight now?" Qin Zongyang asked hurriedly. "What's the intention? Where is it diverting to? Or is it going to Luoshui as originally planned?"
His precious apprentice is still on the plane; he can't afford to have any problems!
"Kunlong said they made an emergency landing in Qianyang. They didn't say whether there were any problems with the flight, but I think there shouldn't be any," the staff member said.
"What do you think?" Qin Zongyang asked, a hint of displeasure in his voice. "What are you saying?"
If there's a problem, there's a problem; if there's no problem, there's no problem. If you know something, you know it; if you don't know something, you don't know it. What does "I think" even mean?
A staff member laughed and said, "The captain on duty for Kunlong 9543 this time is Han Qi!"
"Han Qi!" Qin Zongyang was quite shocked: "That Han Qi?"
"Yes, it's Han Qi!" the staff member confirmed.
"Han Qi. Han Qi," Qin Zongyang paced back and forth a few times, a smile gradually creeping onto his face. He suddenly stopped, then said, "Xu Xian has a flight following him, right? Immediately contact dispatch to adjust the subsequent flights, and then notify the fleet. The authorities might come to inquire about Xu Xian's information; cooperate fully. Also, check our company's recent flights to Qianyang! I need to get to Qianyang now!"
The staff member was completely bewildered by Qin Zongyang's train of thought: "Mr. Qin, you mean we're going to Qianyang now?"
"Yeah! Is there a problem? Our company has a lot of flights to Qianyang!" Qin Zongyang asked curiously.
"President Qin, you still have a little longer to work! If you leave now, there will be no one to watch over the operations control center," the staff member said with difficulty.
Qin Zongyang's expression immediately changed: "Young comrade, what time is it now? Our company's pilots cooperated with another company to handle the crew incapacitation emergency. As the person on duty, shouldn't I go to the scene to find out what's going on? Or am I just going to sit here like an idiot?"
The staff were immediately intimidated by Qin Zongyang's righteous reprimand and quickly went to arrange additional crew members for him.
Qin Zongyang, who was standing still, had his eyebrows practically flying off!
The incapacitated crew's on-duty captain was none other than Han Qi. Wouldn't Xu Xian's help be nothing more than free credit? With such a good opportunity, why wouldn't he go to Qianyang to make a name for himself?
Anyway, Qianyang is only a little over an hour's flight from Dianyungang, so it's very convenient to travel back and forth.
This time, he was determined to give Xu Xian a good commendation! Helping to deal with the co-pilot's incapacitation was a merit in itself, and he couldn't let it slip by! Besides, he also needed to curry favor with Han Qi!
