Legendary Captain

Chapter 155 If one isn't enough, then have two!

"What did you say Xu Xian is? A leader-type personality?" The head of the investigation team for the Chimelong volcanic ash incident and the psychological testers from the bureau both had puzzled expressions on their faces.

The psychological assessor confirmed, "He is a very, very typical leader type!"

To establish proper procedures after the special operation, he had Xu Xian undergo a private physical examination and psychological assessment. Xu Xian's physical examination showed no problems whatsoever; he was in excellent health. However, the team leader specifically came to inquire about the psychological analysis. He was genuinely curious about what kind of person could do something so bizarre.

"What are the characteristics or traits of that so-called leader personality type?" the team leader asked.

The psychological assessor stated, "A strong desire for power, a liking for giving orders, and even a tendency to be aggressive or destructive in interactions are the drawbacks of this personality type. However, the leadership personality also possesses the strengths of resilience and resilience in the face of adversity; the key is whether one can control oneself. This personality type is the most aggressive of the nine Enneagram types, yet also the most challenging, accounting for only one-twentieth of the total, making it relatively rare."

"But this is different from what I heard!" the team leader said, puzzled. He had privately inquired about Xu Xian's character, and he didn't seem to be like the psychological assessor described. Judging from the few comments he had, Xu Xian seemed to have a more gentle personality.

The psychological tester extended a finger and lightly tapped it on the table, a hint of interest in his eyes: "Team leader, do you think personality is innate or formed by the environment?"

The investigation team leader thought for a moment and said, "How about the day after tomorrow? Aren't we all born as blank slates?"

"No!" the psychological assessor said. "We originally thought that nurture played a more significant role in personality formation, but now it seems that innate factors are equally important."

"You just said that the personality traits of Xu Xian you inquired about are different from what I described. That's because of the influence of nurture on him," the psychological assessor said. "When I was conducting a psychological analysis on him, he tried his best to hide his aggression and dominance. I don't know what he experienced during his upbringing that caused him to suppress his true personality, but his deepest tendencies still show up at times."

The head of the investigation team lowered his head and pondered for a moment: "So that's why he was able to lead the handling of an emergency during his training phase? Just like Xu Qing?"

Xu Qing handled the February 2.19th incident in the very first class after leaving the trainee program.

"It's different!" the psychological assessor corrected. "Xu Qing's original personality wasn't a typical leader type; in fact, it was quite different. Our department conducted special research on Xu Qing. Initially, Xu Qing was similar to an ordinary person, even somewhat weak. This was evident in his pilot recruitment psychological test. However, perhaps due to some event, such as under certain special circumstances, a different personality deep within Xu Qing began to develop. The current Xu Qing is completely different from the Xu Qing of the past."

"Xu Xian, on the other hand, was born with a leadership personality, but he was deliberately suppressing it. People with leadership personalities stand out in a group, either becoming leaders or the odd ones out. Xu Xian, however, seems to be trying his best to smooth out his rough edges, attempting to become the less conspicuous one in the group!"

Team leader: "You mean a wolf wants to turn into a sheep?"

"Pretty much! He may have experienced some major setbacks or changes, making him conservative and self-deprecating. He doesn't want to stand out in a crowd, because the tallest tree catches the most wind; the one who stands out might become the leader, but more often than not, they'll be the one isolated! This might be a form of self-protection for him!" the psychological assessor said. "However, in some situations, Xu Xian will still reveal his true colors. No matter how much a wolf tries to hide, it still has wolfish instincts. He even tries to make others believe he's a sheep by biting their necks!"

"What did you say?"

"Towards the end of our conversation, he found himself increasingly unable to hide his true feelings and even tried to take control of the conversation in a childish yet forceful tone," the psychotherapist sighed. "What a pitiful child!"

From her brief conversation with Xu Xian, the psychotherapist could clearly see that Xu Xian was suppressing her true nature. She didn't know the specific reason, but she felt a sense of pity for Xu Xian. She was forcing herself to become someone else.

Leadership-oriented personalities are relatively rare, but that doesn't mean that everyone with a leadership personality will become a protagonist. Personality is one thing, and personal ability is another.

Lacking personal ability, a leader-type personality is seen by others as a synonym for inefficient and ineffective efforts. They possess strong motivation but never find the right approach, ultimately settling for mediocrity.

And if a person with sufficient personal ability is paired with a leader-like personality, that would be a perfect match. Regardless of whether the outcome is good or bad, just or evil, it is destined to be remarkable.

"So, is that kind of leadership personality type suitable for flying?" the team leader asked.

The psychological tester laughed and said, "This is a personality classification method, not a mental illness. What nonsense are you talking about!"

"Since he was able to handle such a major emergency during his trainee stage, his abilities must be quite good. I just hope that he can gradually relax his overprotective nature. If things go well, our civil aviation industry might welcome its third leader!" the psychological assessor said.

The team leader was extremely surprised: "Such a high evaluation?"

"He's already shown some promise; he can't hide it anymore! It's just a matter of how far he can go!" the psychological assessor said. "From what you've said, he hasn't yet come forward to admit his actions during the special operation. It seems he still has some reservations! The moment he can shed his burdens will be the time he soars to new heights!"

Xu Xian, far away in Yunnan, was naturally unaware that he had been completely seen through.

He had taken the time to get a physical exam and psychological tests, but he didn't take them seriously at all. In his limited knowledge, he thought, what could a psychological test possibly find out? It's just a way to create an image for yourself, maybe even to lie a little. What kind of information could you possibly get out of it?

However, true psychological testers are incredibly perceptive. Whether you're telling the truth or not, they can deduce your true nature from your every action. The content of the conversation is important, but not the decisive or sole factor.

The person in charge of the inspection told Xu Xian that they would contact him separately if there were any problems. After a while, no one contacted him, so naturally there were no problems, and Xu Xian put the matter out of his mind.

The flight path inspection passed, of course; it would be a problem if it didn't. The next day, Xu Xian called Lian Shanxue, wanting to invite her to dinner. Lian Shanxue didn't have anything else to do, so she readily agreed.

Xu Xian treated everyone this time, and with tears in his eyes, he found a slightly upscale barbecue restaurant. He had no choice; he couldn't be too stingy when treating a young woman to a meal, especially since Lian Shanxue had helped him so many times.

The two arrived together, and upon reaching the front desk, a staff member pointed out an event they were seeing.

"Take a photo for two?" Xu Xian glanced at Lian Shanxue, then followed the direction the shop assistant pointed to and saw a sign hanging at the entrance: "Couple-themed event?"

"That's right, we're currently running a couples-themed event. Selected male and female customers who are willing to take a photo together can enjoy a 20% discount! Plus, they'll receive a voucher!" the clerk explained.

"Are you choosing? What are the criteria?" Lian Shanxue asked curiously.

The shop assistant was a little embarrassed: "Well, it's all about looks, so it definitely has to be pretty."

If a salesperson notices an attractive customer in their group, they will proactively mention the promotion. However, they will not bring up the promotion if the customer is a couple of opposite sexes or if they feel the customer is less attractive.

The promotional sign only listed the event name; it didn't specify how it would be conducted or provide any details. Most people probably wouldn't even notice it. Unless a staff member specifically mentioned it, no one would have noticed it at all.

Unfortunately, if we didn't select the customers and offered discounts to all couples without any selection process, it would be too expensive. Besides, they only need the photos for editing promotional videos, not that much footage. So, we have to rely on manual selection! After all, better-looking customers make for more visually appealing promotional videos.

Xu Xian gave a wry smile: "Luckily, I'm not bad-looking, otherwise I really wouldn't have any human rights! What do you say?"

Actually, Xu Xian really wanted this discount, after all, saving money is still money! Otherwise, his wallet would really suffer.

"Let's go in and have a bite first! We'll see how it goes," Lian Shanxue said.

She knew what the staff wanted their photos for. To be honest, she wasn't too keen on having herself displayed elsewhere. Of course, if the restaurant was good, she might come back in the future. Then the voucher would be useful; the discount was indeed quite good, and appearing in the photos was acceptable. If the food wasn't good, then this so-called discount wasn't worth Lianshanxue cooperating with the restaurant's "performance."

Women may have an innate talent for calculating discounts. Xu Xian, for example, only saw the 20% discount and didn't expect the voucher's usage.

When the shop assistant saw that Lian Shanxue still needed to think about it, he told his colleague, who then led them to a relatively quiet private room.

The private booths in this area were only open to customers who had accumulated a certain number of points through their purchases in the store, and Xu Xian and his companion were clearly visiting for the first time and hadn't accumulated any points. However, they couldn't help it; Xu Xian and Lian Shanxue were the most attractive couple they'd seen in the past few days, and they absolutely had to win them over.

After Xu Xian sat down, he looked at the bustling crowd in the lobby and said with a smile, "This restaurant is so generous. I see there are still quite a few seats in the lobby! They even arranged a private room for us."

"I just wanted something from you." Lian Shanxue took a sip of tea. "Did you finish your promotion checkup?"

Xu Xian chuckled at the mention of this: "It's all set! I'll hand it in to the helm and then I can change my rank. It's just a pity it's already the latter half of the month, otherwise this month's salary could have been paid according to the standard for a first-class co-pilot."

At Star Travel Airlines, if a pilot changes ranks, for example, Xu Xian is promoted from trainee to first-class co-pilot, as long as the rank change occurs before or before the 15th, then this month's salary will be paid according to the new rank. If it occurs after the 15th, then the salary will be paid according to the original rank.

Just a few days late meant a difference of over ten thousand yuan in salary for Xu Xian, which made him quite upset for a while. However, he was already thankful that he dared to complete the promotion to first-class co-pilot before the promotion restrictions were imposed. Xu Xian wasn't the kind of person who was greedy, so he let it go after a while.

"However, I have to thank you for enabling me to be promoted so quickly!" Xu Xian said.

If Lian Shanxue hadn't taken the initiative to request a change of cooperating personnel, Xu Xian wouldn't have had time to fly flights, and he wouldn't have been able to accumulate enough time to work as a follower so quickly.

Lian Shanxue smiled and said, "It's all a small matter."

"When are you getting your checkup? I'd love to help you out!" Lian Shanxue had helped him so much, she should at least do her part!

"I've already checked!" Lian Shanxue blinked, looking quite playful.

"You checked it? Didn't you say I had to cooperate? When?" This isn't what we planned!

Lian Shanxue laughed and said, "It won't be long. I was originally going to ask you to cooperate, but seeing that you have so many flights, it seems like you're in a hurry to upgrade, so I won't bother you anymore. Anyway, it's just an initial modification check, I can handle it, and besides, not many inspectors will fail me."

"That's true! Not many inspectors will actually flag you down!" Xu Xian laughed. "I'm envious!"

Lian Shanxue: "Envious of being a decorative vase?"

"No, that's not it. I just don't know how I can help," Xu Xian said somewhat embarrassedly. "Besides, I can't pay you back the money I borrowed anytime soon."

"It's alright, I'm not in a hurry for the money anyway." Speaking of the 30,000 yuan, Lian Shanxue thought of Jin Suo: "Has that Jin Suo been found?"

"Found it!" Xu Xian pulled a gold lock from his collar and waved it in front of Lian Shanxue's eyes: "Look, it's been lost and found!"

Lian Shanxue was also delighted: "Where did you find it?"

"It fell into the cockpit of a Chimelong airplane! Who would have thought? No wonder I couldn't find it!" Xu Xian was so excited that he couldn't keep his mouth shut.

Lian Shanxue's eyes lit up, but she quickly returned to normal and didn't say anything.

After Xu Xian uttered the words "Changlong," he realized he had been too talkative. However, seeing that Lian Shanxue seemed not to have heard him clearly, otherwise he would have pressed her for an answer, he felt relieved.

"You'd better take good care of this, it's very valuable." Lian Shanxue deliberately gave Xu Xian a fierce look, looking quite adorable.

Xu Xian laughed heartily: "Of course I know. This gold lock is the most valuable thing I own, no! The most valuable thing in my entire house."

Xu Xian's smile faded: "You lent me money, even offered to help me change people, and lent a hand yesterday. I can't help you with anything, I'm a little ashamed!"

"You're ashamed!" Lian Shanxue smiled sweetly. "Do you really have to be so calculating?"

Upon hearing that the conversation seemed to be getting a little out of control, Xu Xian quickly denied it: "I absolutely didn't mean that."

Seeing Xu Xian's hasty denial, Lian Shanxue's eyes curved even wider. She swirled her water glass, nodded slightly, and avoided Xu Xian's direct gaze: "If you really care, my birthday is coming up soon."

"Huh? It's your birthday?" Xu Xian almost slammed his hand on the table, puffing out his chest and promising, "Don't worry, I'll definitely give you a surprise!"

Lian Shanxue's beautiful eyes fell once again on Xu Xian's confident face: "You've got an idea so quickly? Aren't you guys always so indecisive when it comes to choosing gifts?"

Xu Xian waved his hand dismissively: "How can I be compared to ordinary men?"

Lian Shanxue suddenly became serious and gave Xu Xian a deep look: "You are indeed somewhat different from others!"

Xu Xian didn't understand the hidden meaning in Lian Shanxue's words, and thought that Lian Shanxue was just joking along with him.

"By the way, where are you from?" Xu Xian asked. To be honest, he hadn't really known Lian Shanxue yet.

"I am from Rongfu!"

"Rong Mansion, did your parents come with you?"

This was a very ordinary question, but Lian Shanxue's face darkened slightly: "My father is gone, and my mother stayed in our hometown to recuperate."

"Ah? I'm sorry." Xu Xian's expression turned slightly serious; it seemed he wasn't having much luck.

Lian Shanxue took it all in stride: "It's nothing, it's alright. I'm already lucky to have a decent job. In an ordinary family, my mother would just be waiting to die from her illness."

"You live alone? No brothers, sisters, or anything like that?" Xu Xian asked.

"I'm an only child, the only one in my family," Lian Shanxie said with a smile. "To be honest, for several generations before me, the Lianshan surname was passed down as an only child. After me, my side of the Lianshan family line will end. People online often mock me, saying that there must be a throne to inherit in my family, but I genuinely want to continue the Lianshan surname."

The surname Lianshan is rare in China, so it's understandable that Lianshan Xue wants to pass it down.

"Isn't everything about gender equality now? You can follow your mother's gender!" Xu Xian said.

"It's possible, but aside from marrying into the wife's family, following the mother's surname is relatively rare. Although I hope to pass on my surname, I don't have that obsession. It would be best if he could, but if not, I'd just be a little sad, I wouldn't force him," Lian Shanxie said. "I just don't know where my Mr. Right is now."

As Lian Shanxue spoke, she glanced at Xu Xian almost imperceptibly.

Xu Xian was preoccupied with the issue of surname succession and didn't notice Lian Shanxue glancing at him. Suddenly, Xu Xian slammed his hand on the table and excitedly exclaimed, "If we only have one child, it's really difficult for the man to have the child follow the mother's surname. If one isn't enough, why not have two?"
