Legendary Captain

Chapter 27 A Perfect Example of Sophistry

"Is this a normal simulator program?" Qin Zongyang asked.

"President Qin, I don't understand what you mean."

Qin Zongyang: "I know that there are no points awarded for normal simulator teamwork. But is this considered normal simulator teamwork? Is there any logic in requiring teamwork for initial modifications?"

"This is a special case, Mr. Qin, please understand!" The simulator supervisor still tried to explain in a kind and polite manner.

"I didn't say I wouldn't cooperate! We're trying to reason with them! And reasoning won't work!" Qin Zongyang started to act unreasonably. "Isn't this an irregular simulator program? Isn't this the same as 'grabbing flights'? This simulator program shouldn't even exist in the first place, and now Xu Xian has to spend his time cooperating, causing flights to be canceled. How much does it cost to fly a simulator? How much does it cost to fly a flight? You're saying Xu Xian isn't sacrificing his rest time for the company's operation? Isn't this the same as 'grabbing flights'?"

According to company regulations, each pilot takes turns working with a number of simulators, which is standard practice. However, initial conversion training is not within the scope of regular simulator training, and Qin Zongyang seized upon the rationale behind the initial conversion training simulator training plan to launch a fierce attack. Furthermore, the initial conversion training process is extremely lengthy, taking at least a month, while regular simulator training only takes one or two days.

Finally, there are some subsidies for using simulators, but they are far less than those for flying. Who would turn down money? Especially Xu Xian!

Regardless of its rationale, duration, or income disparity, Xu Xian appears to be sacrificing his personal interests for the company.

"Catch...catch flying?" The simulator supervisor was completely fooled by Qin Zongyang's bluff: "How are these related?"

As a junior leader in the frigate team, how could he not know that promotion points are calculated by the frigate team and what situations can earn extra points?

Catching flights does earn promotion points, but the value is small. The number of promotion points varies depending on the flights caught.

For example, if the flight being captured is a high-quality flight, then fewer points will be awarded; if the flight being captured is of lower quality, more points will be awarded. This is mainly for the sake of fairness.

Roughly speaking, catching a flying enemy ten times will earn you between one and two points. Therefore, earning points by catching flying enemies is quite unrealistic. After all, catching a flying enemy is a low-probability event; on average, you'd be lucky to catch one once a month.

However, even though the score for the flight simulator was low, why did the simulator supervisor feel uneasy?

"How can these not be compared? No, they are the same thing!" Qin Zongyang said indignantly, "They both sacrifice their own families for the greater good. Manager Wang, isn't that the principle?"

"Uh... okay! I'll record it once!" The simulator supervisor finally compromised. He couldn't argue with Qin Zongyang too much, since the 0.1 points were useless anyway, and he could still make the decision on that.

"What do you mean 'once'!" Qin Zongyang persisted. "Everyone knows the initial modification lasts at least a month, so how can it be just once! Once? Are you trying to fob me off?! I won't ask for more, let's say thirty times! Considering the simulator subsidy is so low, it definitely falls into the extra points category, so let's say two points for ten times. Thirty times... six points! Please keep track of this for Xu Xian, thank you..."

Qin Zongyang was willing to do anything to help Xu Xian, even going so far as to abandon all pretense of decency.

"Six points?" If it weren't for the fact that the person on the other end of the phone was the deputy general manager of the flight department, Manager Wang would have already started cursing. He only got five points in his first year if he behaved himself, and Qin Zongyang was already asking for six points – his appetite was too big!

Simulator supervisor: "President Qin, six points is too much, I can't possibly agree to that!"

"You won't agree, huh!" Qin Zongyang said nonchalantly, ignoring the simulator supervisor and turning to Xu Xian instead, "Ignore the simulator plan that Feibiao sent you. I want to see if the flight department is some kind of bandit den, forcing pilots to work for free!"

The adjective "bandit's den" was originally used by the company's senior management to warn Qin Zongyang, but Qin Zongyang just casually used it.

The simulator supervisor was nearly driven mad: "President Qin, why are you doing this? He's just a student!"

"What do you mean, just a student! Xu Xian is my disciple, can't I even stand up for my disciple?" At this moment, Qin Zongyang was full of confidence. It is only natural for a master to intervene in his disciple's affairs.

This is what it means to have a "just cause"!

"An apprentice? Mr. Qin, when did you take on an apprentice?" Things had gotten so far that the simulator supervisor was completely out of his depth. Qin Zongyang hadn't taken on an apprentice in two years; how come he suddenly had one out of nowhere?

"The apprentice we just settled on today! It won't work!" Qin Zongyang said.

"A deal...a deal?" The simulator supervisor was truly impressed by Qin Zongyang's style. Was negotiating to take on an apprentice some kind of business deal?

"President Qin, I can't make a decision on this. President Qin, please wait a moment. I'll go ask President Lu!" A promotion of six points is not something a supervisor like him can decide on his own; it has to be Fei Biao's direct supervisor, Lu Xinyu, who makes the decision!

The simulator supervisor hung up the phone and dialed Lu Xinyu's number: "President Lu, there have been some problems with the initial modification of Lianshanxue."

The simulator supervisor recounted Qin Zongyang's involvement, specifically mentioning the relationship between Qin Zongyang and Xu Xian, as well as the issue of promotion points that Qin Zongyang had raised.

"Are you sure Xu Xian is Qin Zongyang's apprentice?" Lu Xinyu was quite surprised to hear this. The biggest reason Qin Zongyang was at a great disadvantage in their current duel was the lack of a good apprentice. For the past two years, Qin Zongyang had been searching for a suitable disciple. Was Xu Xian the one Qin Zongyang had in mind?

The simulator supervisor said, "This was said by President Qin himself, so it's confirmed."

"Xu Xian..." Lu Xinyu suddenly became interested: "Go to the archives and ask for Xu Xian's file, starting from his time at flight school."

"Xu Xian's file? Mr. Lu, you should talk to the file manager. I don't have the authority to access the file," the simulator manager said.

Pilot files are classified information, and the key to the archives is kept by a designated person. Entry to the archives is not permitted without a valid reason, and at least the level of the simulator supervisor does not have the authority to access the files.

"I'll talk to the records manager, don't worry," Lu Xinyu said. "Also... about promotion points... three points, that's the bare minimum!"

Qin Zongyang is, after all, the deputy general manager of the flight department. If he were to act unscrupulously, it would be a real problem. Moreover, the initial modification process has indeed dragged on for too long, which is very unfair to the pilots involved.

It's worth it to get three points to shut Qin Zongyang up.

As for Qin Zongyang's apprentice, Xu Xian! Things seem rather interesting now...
