Legendary Captain

Chapter 47 The Risk of Being Homeless

Dreams are such a luxury!

Xu Xian once possessed it, only to have it ruthlessly shattered by his stubborn and self-willed father. Now, Xu Xian is nothing more than a walking corpse, devoid of his own thoughts and utterly submissive to reality.

After parting ways with Lian Shanxue in the corridor, Xu Xian nestled in his room and had a good night's sleep. Business at the restaurant was so-so, and the boss had no intention of hiring Xu Xian for a part-time job anytime soon, which allowed him to enjoy some long-awaited leisure time.

Instead of immediately looking for a new part-time job, Xu Xian started looking for suitable flight assignments in the co-pilot's WeChat group.

Lianshanxue's last-minute addition of activities gave Xu Xian an extra four-day vacation. He felt he should take a flight during this time to gain some experience; otherwise, he'd be doing himself a disservice.

Since Xu Xian is currently just a trainee, not even a first-class co-pilot, he receives no hourly or landing fees, only a fixed monthly salary of a little over seven thousand yuan. Therefore, it makes no difference to Xu Xian where he flies. Whether it's an airport with high or low landing fees, his salary won't change.

Overnight flights are definitely out of the question, as they might result in insufficient rest time. Therefore, same-day round-trip flights within the same station are the only option. Xu Xian needs to accumulate 100 hours of on-the-job training. Once he has enough, he can apply for promotion to First-Class First Officer. As a First-Class First Officer, he'll receive hourly pay, more than tripling his previous salary. Therefore, Xu Xian's best option is flights with longer operating times. Of course, longer flights are always preferable, but if not, he won't be picky; he has no other choice right now.

There aren't many people like Xu Xian, overwhelmed by reality, at least not among the second co-pilots. The WeChat group for second co-pilots that Xu Xian is in is full of messages about skipping shifts, but there are very few people willing to take over.

Xu Xian scrolled up the information record until he reached the date of the last shift. Starting from that date, he wouldn't miss any information about skipped shifts.

Xu Xian read through the messages one by one, not skipping any. He found that the shifts others were switching were generally of poor quality. They weren't the kind of overly relaxed shifts where the crew would spend the night on the first day and then return the next day. They were flights with very bad schedules, especially late-night shifts, many of which landed after 1 a.m.

Actually, Xu Xian doesn't mind staying up late. However, if it's too late, it's basically impossible to find a carpool, so Xu Xian still has to consider the cost.

Sometimes Xu Xian thinks to himself, "I'm a pilot, after all. It's ridiculous that I have to worry about transportation costs."

After careful consideration, Xu Xian chose flight 6533, departing for Tianning City at 9:00 AM the day after tomorrow. Although it's only a round trip, the journey takes about five hours, which is acceptable. Moreover, taking off at 9:00 AM means he should be able to carpool to the company, and if he's not in a rush, he can take the bus home, significantly reducing transportation costs.

After deciding on the flight, Xu Xian sent a message to the person who was supposed to skip the shift. The person replied quickly, saying that it was okay to skip the shift and that Xu Xian could just call the dispatcher himself.

As long as it's agreed upon privately by both parties and the flight configuration requirements are met, the dispatcher will generally approve the shift change. Xu Xian found the dispatcher's phone number, communicated with them, and quickly arranged the shift change.

Now that everything is ready, Xu Xian is still missing a few things.

After having dinner at the hotel restaurant, Xu Xian took several buses back to Ningyue Residential Complex. Upon arriving at the complex, he went to the guardhouse to find his father, Xu Jingyang. However, Xu Jingyang wasn't there; only the fat, burly security captain, Wang Shuai, was present.

Wang Shuai saw Xu Xian looking into the guardhouse through the glass, opened the window, and said sarcastically, "Isn't this Young Master Xu? Who are you looking for? President Xu isn't here!"

Xu Xian remained unfazed by Wang Shuai's taunts, as he was already used to it.

All those "Young Master Xu" and "Master Xu" titles are disgusting things Xu Xian uses. When the Xu family was prosperous, Wang Shuai never called him "Young Master Xu." It's only when the Xu family fell on hard times that all these little devils started popping up.

As for "President Xu", isn't he Xu Xianyang, Xu Xian's father?

Seeing that his father was not at his post, Xu Xian didn't bother to waste words with Wang Shuai and went straight home.

As expected, Xu Jingyang, dressed in a security guard uniform, sat blankly on the bed, as if he had lost his soul.

"Dad, did you leave work early today?" Xu Xian put his bag on the table and poured himself a glass of water to moisten his throat.

The shift changeover time for security guards in Ningyue Community should be 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Logically, Xu Jingyang should be on duty at that time.

Upon hearing the sound of his son returning, Xu Jingyang's eyes seemed to regain some of their sparkle.

"Xiao Xian, this house is for sale." Xu Jingyang mechanically turned his head to Xu Xian, uttering the news as if announcing a terrible calamity.

Xu Xian's right hand, gripping the water glass, trembled violently. He asked incredulously, "This house?"

As Xu Xian spoke, he pointed to the ground, and the expression on his face gradually turned ashen.

Seeing the despair on Xu Xian's face, Xu Jingyang's recently calmed mood immediately plummeted again: "Lin Guangrong just called me and said that a buyer has been found for the house. All the formalities should be completed within a month, including the garage!"

Xu Xian felt dizzy and disoriented; for the father and son, who were already struggling financially, this was a devastating blow.

Even though Xu Xian knew that the house would be sold sooner or later, he didn't expect it to be so quick.

"How could it be so fast?" Xu Xian muttered to himself, somewhat lost in thought.

This house is worth tens of millions, so there shouldn't be many buyers. The father and son originally thought they could hold on for a long time, but they never expected to be evicted so soon.

The Lin family had a slight relationship with the father and son, practically giving them the rental rights to the garage for free. However, the subsequent tenants weren't so kind. If they couldn't find a suitable place to live, the father and son would be left homeless.
