Chapter 145 The Right Awareness: The Mediterranean is the Godfather's Free Fishpond
The high-end seafood buyers in Syracuse didn't take the large mussels and Mediterranean lobsters, but that didn't stop the three brothers from making a small fortune.
Larger molluscs exceeding 7 cm can be sent to higher-end locations; Aesop even found some over 9 cm individuals among them during their inventory check.
After moving the entire clam bed, Leo received half of the profit, 180 million lira, plus the accompanying catch of two Mediterranean lobsters, earning nearly 200 million in three days.
Enzo, who provided the ships and crew, took the lion's share of the remaining profits.
The big guy joked that he had planned to take a few days off and relax, but he unexpectedly made a windfall.
Bianchi, the rich young master, was also very happy to receive a considerable amount of pocket money.
Deep diving is very physically demanding. After the harvesting was finished, Enzo told the two young men to rest for a day and not to practice ropes anymore. These two guys would do some training on the boat when they had nothing to do, like they had ADHD.
Unexpectedly, they didn't listen at all. Not only did they continue to get up early to practice their basic skills, but Leo also went to sea again, seemingly not planning to rest.
"Don't you think Leo and Natale look alike?"
After delivering the last batch of mussels, Leo was eager to go out to sea, Bianchi was eager to find his mother, and Enzo stayed behind to chat with Aesop for a few minutes.
"I've always thought they looked alike," Aesop replied while sorting through the goods.
Dude, I heard Leo's name from Natale long before you even knew him.
Enzo, leaning against Aesop's truck, said, "These hard-working guys are terrifying."
Aesop scoffed: "When hardworking people encounter good luck... it's even more terrifying."
He pulled a box off the truck, opened it, and showed it to Enzo: "Natale sent two European abalones this morning, and they're quite large."
Enzo took one out and held it up in his palm: "Natale found something good again?"
Aesop clicked his tongue in amazement and said, "Isn't it terrifying? Natale keeps bringing in such good stuff..."
He placed the abalone in the container and put the lid on. "In the past, I wouldn't receive more than a few good things a week, but this week, good things have been coming to me non-stop. One minute it's abalone, the next it's prawns, then it's a bed of mussels... Luck is such a magical thing."
Enzo pointed to the truck parked next to him and joked, "I can tell, you have a little brother now."
The mussel beds were so large that just transporting the mussels brought by Enzo and his two companions filled a truck. Aesop would have to bring another truck in the next couple of days to transport all the seafood away.
Aesop shook his head: "What little brother? A temporary helper. You know we earn our money through hard work, we can't afford to feed a second person."
"You said it yourself, luck is a magical thing," Enzo said, crossing his thick arms. "Natale and Leo are both hardworking guys. If you can keep up this luck, and you bring back good stuff every now and then, it's only a matter of time before you get another helper."
The profit margin for ordinary seafood is low, but the profit margin for high-value seafood is high.
Aesop laughed and asked him, "Why don't you say you'd work harder so I can earn more money to hire a helper...? How many times did you go out to sea in August?"
Enzo changed the subject, opening the door to the truck's cab: "How many years have you been driving this truck? Look how old it is, the engine oil smell is too strong, it should be replaced, get a bigger one."
He pulled a wooden stick from under the driver's seat, frowned, and asked, "Still keeping it? Has someone been giving you trouble again?"
Aesop glanced at it and shook his head: "No, it's just a habit."
Enzo put the stick back in its place: "Don't hide anything. My fists aren't just effective in Malzamemi."
Aesop closed the driver's side door and said in a good mood, "Alright, we're off. When we see Leo, tell him to fill up the tank; I'm counting on him to get me a bigger truck."
Aesop's words were a joke, but they hit the nail on the head.
Leo seemed to be blessed by Lady Luck, bringing back several good things every day.
The first day's meal consisted of a large grouper and two Mediterranean lobsters.
The next day featured European sea bream and several enormous abalone.
On the third day, an entire nest of wild mussels, each over 10 centimeters long, was found.
Not only Aesop was stunned.
The high-end seafood buyer in Syracuse province was also stunned.
Because Aesop had been told to ask them first if he found anything good, he called them every day.
Although it's not what they've been searching for, the frequency is a bit too high.
On the fourth day, when Aesop called again, the other person couldn't help but ask, "Where did you get all these good things from?"
"Malzamemi".
"Marzamemi, that little fishing village?"
"Yes, it's that small place."
"Is there any tide around there? How come fishermen bring back good catches every day?"
"There were no tides, so everything was found by a single fisherman."
"A fisherman?"
"Yes, Malzamemi... has produced a very impressive guy."
Normal fishermen take a day or two off each week.
But Leo hasn't had a break for two weeks, spending every day at sea.
The villagers thought Leo didn't want to let his good luck run out and wanted to work hard to keep Lady Luck watching him.
But Leo didn't care about any of that, because he was the goddess of fortune himself.
He found these valuable seafood items through his own abilities, and luck had absolutely nothing to do with them.
As for why I'm working so hard... it's because I'm persistently searching for treasure.
Over the past four days, Leo has explored all the underwater sinkholes within 2 kilometers to the east, fully illuminating parts of the minimap. Although he hasn't reached the bottom of some extremely deep areas, those depths exceed the sponge's growth area, so going there is not very meaningful.
Today, he began to venture deeper into this rocky uplift.
In the past few days, he has found a lot of good stuff, and even chased and killed several high-value big fish with his fists. He has also continued to search for sea urchins... but he has yet to encounter any self-proclaimed sponges.
Before setting off today, Detective Leo conducted a phased review.
Finding a sponge using the current approach is a long way off; we must change our methods.
Now, whenever he sees a high-value catch, he can't resist going over to collect it.
There was no other way; I was terrified of being poor.
But this mindset is wrong.
The right mindset should be—
"The entire Mediterranean is a free fishpond for the Sea King." Those things will be his sooner or later. There's no need to rush for immediate gratification; we need to have a long-term vision.
Let them live a couple more days to grow bigger; it's most important to get the important things done right now.
So today, instead of rushing to catch fish, Leo focused on the places where the high-value sponges he had read about liked to live.
Where do these high-value sponges prefer to live?
Dangerous places include "hard limestone caves 3-100 meters deep or almost vertical cliffs".
So Aquaman decided to explore these dangerous places in the Mediterranean today.
"Of course... if you come across anything valuable, you should still grab it."
Having finalized his plan, Leo jumped off the wooden boat.
