NBA: A collection of super busts
Chapter 83 Wow, LeBron, you're so proactive! I thought you were a man of your word.
"So early, LeBron." Ye Feng looked at James as if it were a chance encounter, waved and greeted him. After not seeing each other for several months, James did not show any hostility towards Ye Feng, and nodded and reached out, wanting to give Ye Feng a high-five.
But he never imagined that what touched his palm was not Ye Feng's hand, but Ye Feng's bag.
"Wow, LeBron, you're so proactive! I knew you weren't the kind of person who talks a big game, refuses to admit defeat, is a complete sore loser, and is utterly untrustworthy and dishonest!" Ye Feng grinned and said, "This month, my bag is in your hands!"
After Ye Feng finished speaking, he didn't give James any chance to react or resist, and swaggered away whistling.
James, who was left behind, really wanted to pick up his bag and throw it on the ground, but after hesitating for a long time, he picked up his bag and followed Ye Feng forward.
Ye Feng just gave out way too many buffs...
By this time, most of the Grizzlies' players had arrived in the locker room.
The most active person was undoubtedly the team's star point guard, "White Chocolate" Jason Williams, who was blasting music from the loud speakers and swaying his body to the rhythm.
He was listening to the purest gangster rap, and his whole body was covered in tattoos and big gold chains, gold watches, and gold rings.
Aside from his skin color, this guy looks exactly like a typical black street kid.
But strangely enough, apart from Williams, the other key figures on this Grizzlies team were all unusually quiet.
For example, Pau Gasol, who hadn't grown a beard or long hair yet, sat there quietly changing his clothes. He looked more like a college freshman than an NBA All-Star.
Young and shy, with a friendly smile on his face.
Battier, who was standing next to him, was almost identical to him in temperament. The two sat together, chatting and laughing in hushed tones, clearly having a very good relationship.
Not only the two white players, but even Antonio Davis, the team's highest-paid veteran and fellow Black player, didn't join Williams in the commotion. He just sat in his seat, showing no hostility towards anyone. But clearly, with age and injuries, he didn't have the energy to build relationships with anyone.
Although he has earned a lot, he is very clear about his role in the new season: to mentor and guide the younger players, provide them with experience, and be prepared to be traded by the team at any time.
His contract, totaling over $39 million over the next three years, would be a burden for any team.
As for legendary star Hakeem Olajuwon, who came to Memphis with him, he didn't even report to the team. Nobody knows if he's in Toronto, Houston, or anywhere else.
He has already retired, but he is still on the player roster because his contract has not expired.
Then James Posey, who had just joined the team this summer with a full mid-level exception contract, also walked into the locker room. However, instead of joining Williams's fun, he plopped down next to Battier and started chatting with the two white men.
This guy is also quite introverted.
Overall, this is a rather young team with a refined and quiet demeanor, lacking both troublemakers and wildness.
This can be seen from the fact that almost the entire team had arrived an hour before the meeting time.
Of course, this doesn't include the two young people outside who were walking from the parking lot to the locker room.
"Hey, your leadership position might be in jeopardy," Battier joked with Gasol after he finished changing. "Maybe your locker will have to be moved to the side."
"Maybe two," Posey chuckled. "That Ye guy might even steal your starting power forward position."
"Then let's just take it," Gasol said nonchalantly. "I'm happy just to play. I don't care about my position on the team."
"Boss!"
Just as a group of people were chatting, Haslem, who was sitting in the corner, suddenly stood up and shouted towards the door, causing many people to subconsciously turn their heads to look at the locker room door.
Ye Feng walked in with his hands in his pockets, swaying slightly, and said with a smile, "What are you doing, Udonis? Keep your voice down."
"Okay, boss," Haslem said. "I'm just grateful. Without you, I might be playing in France or Spain again."
"You've been here for two years, and nobody's ever treated you this respect," Bosh mocked. "You might as well move over a couple of seats."
"I already said I don't care," Gasol shrugged, then said, "But I have to say, playing in Spain is actually pretty good. The climate is mild, the fans are friendly, and the reporters aren't as veiled and aggressive as they are here."
"This Ye, doesn't he have a backpack? Did he forget to bring his equipment?" Battier, with his keen eyes, quickly spotted the blind spot: "Hubi isn't easy to fool. If he doesn't bring anything today, he'll definitely get scolded."
"I'll go ask him."
Just as the good-natured Battier was about to stand up, he stared wide-eyed in disbelief, or rather, the entire locker room stared wide-eyed.
They saw James walking into the locker room not far behind Ye Feng, carrying a bag in each hand.
"Excuse me, everyone, which seat is mine?" Ye Feng greeted everyone with a smile. "I need LeBron to put his bag there first."
"You want the chosen one to carry your bag, kid?" Williams looked at Ye Feng with interest. "I haven't even had him carry it yet."
"Then you'll have to talk to Jason yourself," Ye Feng said with a smile. "Nice to meet you. I've always been a fan of yours. I've been watching your highlights all summer, and I've always dreamed of receiving the ball from you and making a dunk."
Speaking of this, Williams' expression turned somewhat disappointed. Those flashy, acrobatic passes were his signature move, and also the thing that head coach Hubie Brown hated the most.
He had argued with Brown several times last season about those things, and Dan Brown just wouldn't allow him to do it.
After realizing he couldn't challenge Brown's dominance and even being DNP'd twice, Williams chose to back down in order to continue playing and earn a living.
But Brown wasn't the kind of stubborn old man who would just make him back down. After seeing that Williams was willing to change, Brown offered Williams a very lucrative deal.
What about truly top-tier guards, what about legendary guards, what about those who earn recognition through skill rather than showmanship?
These favorable conditions, coupled with Williams' career-best performance in the second half of last season, completely won over this troublemaker.
He has basically given up on those things.
But giving up doesn't mean you don't like or want to use those techniques.
This guy's swagger is ingrained in his very bones.
"Is everyone here?" At this moment, the team's head coach, the league's oldest coach with a full head of white hair, Brown, also walked into the locker room: "Hurry up and change your clothes, we're going to that damn media day. Get it over with quickly, don't let it affect our afternoon practice!"
