Six Realms Immortal Emperor

Chapter 8 Mysterious Figure

The arena is finally set up!

When Xu Jingtian returned to his dilapidated room, the moon was high in the sky, and it was already midnight.

They worked on building the arena for most of the night, a full three hours. He and Zhao Jingcai didn't know how many pieces of wood they had moved; their bones were almost broken from exhaustion.

Zhao Jingcai was exhausted, his tongue lolling out, but he still dared not slack off.

Beside them, a chief steward led a dozen or so junior stewards, keeping a close watch on them. Each of them held a long leather whip, ready to serve them at any moment. Those who tried to slack off were whipped until their skin was torn and bleeding.

Xu Jingtian was also a bit exhausted; he was so young and had practiced martial arts all day. After helping Zhao Jingcai to the room, he collapsed onto the bed.

His dilapidated room was extremely simple. Apart from some essential living items, there was only a wooden bed, which was covered with straw.

"I'm so tired, but I'm finally done!" Xu Jingtian sighed and lay down on the wooden bed. Although the bed was hard and not warm, he didn't care. He felt weak and powerless, and his limbs were stretched out in a starfish shape.

"Those damned stewards! Even the cats and dogs are resting now, yet they still bully us mercilessly. Even the best horses have their naps, let alone us servants who can't even get proper food. It's killing us! Are they trying to kill us?!"

Back in his dilapidated room, Xu Jingtian no longer had to hold back and muttered a whole bunch of things.

"Pah! Those bullies who rely on their master's power!" The more Xu Jingtian thought about it, the more he disliked them.

"When will we be able to stop seeing their ugly faces and stop suffering the unwarranted resentment of those Eastern disciples?"

Suddenly, he thought of Dongfang Siyu, who had returned from the Brahma Sect, and sighed enviously to himself, "Ah! When will I be able to become a disciple of a celestial sect like Dongfang Siyu, so I won't have to endure these people's disdain? Then my life won't have been in vain!"

And then, he could finally go find his parents whom he had never met. Thinking of this, Xu Jingtian felt a surge of joy, but his head was also spinning, so he prepared to fall asleep.

"Heh, you really want to become a disciple of the immortal sect?"

However, just as he was in a daze, lost in thought, another person's voice suddenly came from the empty room.

The clear sound suddenly rang out in his room, startling him and instantly waking him up.

"who!?"

Xu Jingtian's half-closed eyes suddenly snapped open.

Was it just his imagination? Xu Jingtian got up and scanned his small room. Although it was late at night, he couldn't see a single person by the moonlight.

"Is it because I'm too tired?" Xu Jingtian thought, his head feeling a little dizzy.

But in the next moment, he immediately regained his senses.

A figure stood silently in front of the window, which was about a foot square, and the shadow fell right in front of his bed!

Who could cultivate martial arts to such a high level? Even the patriarch, Dongfang Shanzhan, probably couldn't do it!

"Who are you!" Although Xu Jingtian was quite surprised, he was not particularly timid, as he always traveled alone. Besides, this was Dongfang Prefecture; who would dare to cause trouble here?

The figure chuckled twice before saying, "Who I am is not important. I'm asking you, were you telling the truth just now?"

Xu Jingtian, however, did not rush to answer him. He stared intently at the figure, pondering the matter for a moment.

Although he couldn't see the person's face at the window, he could tell from the voice that the person was young. Since this person had managed to sneak into his room unnoticed, it meant their martial arts skills were at least several levels higher than his own. Furthermore, the fact that this person didn't show any obvious hostility after hearing his comments detrimental to the Dongfang family suggested that the person was an outsider.

Having figured all this out, Xu Jingtian's vigilance lessened considerably. He said calmly, "I wonder what brings you to my dilapidated house, sir? Aren't you afraid I might shout something and prevent you from leaving this courtyard?"

Having spent over a decade investigating and maneuvering within the Dongfang family, Xu Jingtian was not one to be easily fooled. Before ascertaining the man's identity and background, he naturally wouldn't directly admit to what he had said.

The figure gave an awkward smile, surprised that Xu Jingtian, despite his young age, possessed considerable experience in the ways of the world. Instead of directly answering his question, Xu Jingtian had instead tried to probe him indirectly.

"Hmph! Your place is so remote, I'm confident I can kill you and silence you before everyone else arrives!" The figure then softened his tone, saying, "Alright, let's not talk nonsense. If I can help you enter the Brahma Sect, how will you repay me?"

The figure remained with its back to the window, motionless.

Under the moonlight, it was filled with an eerie atmosphere.

What? This person wants to help me get into the Brahma Sect?

The figure's straightforward words startled Xu Jingtian, instantly clearing his mind and making him think several times more than usual.

"What makes you think you can do this?" Xu Jingtian asked, a barely perceptible smile playing on his lips.

The figure was taken aback; he seemed to have underestimated Xu Jingtian.

The seemingly frail young man before him was incredibly quick-witted and definitely not someone to be trifled with. Xu Jingtian's meaning was clear: if he didn't make an appropriate gesture, why should the other person believe him? Any words he uttered would be a waste of time.

The figure gave a bitter smile to himself. His wishful thinking had backfired, and he hadn't gained any advantage at all. He was now in a passive position instead of an active one.

"What courage!" The figure gave Xu Jingtian a thumbs up, then took something out of his pocket and spread it out on his flat palm.

By the faint moonlight, Xu Jingtian could see a round, spherical object, completely black and gleaming.

The figure chuckled and said, "I have a pill here that can rapidly increase your martial arts level and attack speed. Do you dare to take it?"

Pills? Xu Jingtian was taken aback upon hearing this.

A pill that can enhance martial arts prowess and attack speed—looking across the entire Dongfang family, there probably isn't one. If there were, the martial arts prowess of those Dongfang disciples wouldn't be so low; after so many years of practice, they wouldn't even be at the third level. Such a rare item is not something easily obtained in the secular world.

Xu Jingtian thought to himself, "Could it be poison? Is this person trying to harm me? But I've never bullied anyone in the Dongfang family except when I was bullied myself. Where would I get an enemy?"

Judging from this person's martial arts skills, he should be at the level of the family head, Dongfang Shanzhan, or even higher. If he wanted to take my life, it would be a simple matter. There's no need for such underhanded methods.

A faint medicinal fragrance seemed to emanate from the room, and the pills in the figure's palm gleamed mysteriously in the moonlight, attracting Xu Jingtian's attention.

This shiny black object doesn't seem to be poison, and the figure's account seems somewhat plausible.

"I don't know martial arts, so what use is this to me?" Xu Jingtian remained clear-headed and was not fooled by what the newcomer had taken out.

Xu Jingtian was puzzled. He had been very careful to conceal his martial arts skills; he had never revealed the slightest hint of them within the Dongfang residence, and the location where he practiced was extremely secluded. Even his close friend Zhao Jingcai was unaware of this. How did this person know?

The figure chuckled and continued, "Then let me ask you again, did you steal your martial arts skills?"

"Not bad!" Xu Jingtian steeled his resolve and said. Fine, he'd take the plunge; this person didn't seem to be from the Dongfang family anyway.

"Heh, you're quite the clever one." The figure chuckled, appreciating Xu Jingtian's caution. He continued, "Since that's the case, let's get straight to the point! I just want to ask you, what I have can greatly enhance your martial arts level and attack speed. Do you want it or not?"

It seemed this person didn't care whether he had secretly learned martial arts, and Xu Jingtian felt relieved. He remained outwardly unmoved, but his mind was racing, with a thousand thoughts flashing through his head in an instant.

Why would this person give away such a precious elixir, and why choose him of all people? But there's no such thing as a free lunch. Since the other party promised such a great benefit, they must be asking for even more.

"What are the conditions?" Xu Jingtian swallowed hard as he asked. To say he wasn't tempted would be foolish.

The figure smiled with satisfaction, gave him a thumbs up, and said, "Good! This is the kind of person who can achieve great things, not those short-sighted people. I was right about you."

Xu Jingtian felt embarrassed by his praise and thought to himself, "Luckily, he can't see through my true thoughts."

"You're so long-winded!" Xu Jingtian said, trying to cover up his misunderstanding.

"Then why do you want to learn martial arts?" the figure continued to ask.

Xu Jingtian hadn't seriously considered this question, but it wouldn't stump him. "It's nothing more than wanting to stand out from the crowd, to become an official or general in the future, to be as powerful as the head of the Dongfang family, and never have to be subservient to others again!" Xu Jingtian said casually. He figured everyone in the Dongfang family probably thought the same way, so let's see what you can get out of him.

"Hmph! Even if he becomes emperor and rules the world in the future, he will still be just an ordinary person. What difference will it make if he gets old, sick, and dies? He will still have to leave it to fate. His destiny is still not in his own hands," the figure sneered.

"Then...how can I take control of my own destiny?" Xu Jingtian was utterly shocked. It turned out that the life of luxury he had always believed in, the life he had pursued and longed for, was a complete mistake from the very beginning!
