The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.
014 Barring any unforeseen circumstances
Before the pool, Samuel wrapped a silver chain around a cross. The cross began to reveal a faint golden hue.
"To ensure the test's authenticity, I will not enter with you. You must focus all your efforts on dealing with the aliens."
Ex couldn't help but say, "You said you wouldn't let us go to our deaths."
"So I'll be keeping an eye on things from outside. If necessary, I'll bring you back."
Is it reliable?
"Of course, barring any unforeseen circumstances."
No, could you please not use the word "accident"?
Axe suddenly realized he couldn't rely on Samuel anymore.
Based on years of gaming experience, once someone says there will be no surprises, then something unexpected is bound to happen.
However, this was too mystical, and he couldn't very well protest to Samuel.
"The testing grounds are about to open," Samuel continued. "The door to the 'Rain World' will only be open for three minutes. So once inside, you'll have to defeat all the aliens before the door reopens... or I can force it open."
Ex immediately translated what he said himself: Next, we will enter a dungeon or a secret realm.
You can only exit after defeating the enemy normally.
Samuel threw the cross into the pool.
The pool instantly boiled. Steam carrying the stench of blood assaulted her nostrils, and Angel's pointed ears immediately pressed against her scalp: "It's...it's the smell of a different species!"
She gripped Ax's clothes tightly, her blue eyes wide open. "Master, the air is trembling!"
Fairies can even sense this?
"Hmm, hold on tight to me." X grabbed her wrist.
The water curtain suddenly rose vertically. It wasn't clear water; it was a viscous, silvery liquid.
Then the central liquid separated, transforming into a door with a silver liquid border.
The sinister aura intensified, emanating from the doorway.
Samuel's black robe was lifted by the air currents.
"Don't worry about it, the world is full of malice. Just don't have too many negative emotions."
"What negative emotions?" Ex asked.
"Like fear," Samuel said, pointing to the water gate. "Go in."
Angel watched the water gate nervously.
Compared to the known monsters, the unknown door seemed to make her more uneasy.
X suddenly laughed: "Scared?"
The fairy blinked her blue eyes, then suddenly took a deep breath: "Don't be afraid! My master said he's stronger than Ultraman!"
"Then let's go."
The moment he passed through the water gate, Axe heard Samuel muttering to himself behind him.
"Stronger than Ultraman? What is Ultraman?"
There's no time to explain, because the world has changed.
……
Behind the door, it was raining.
Rain doesn't just fall from the sky.
Another part of the rain comes from the ground, which then sprays upwards.
Chaotic, disordered, and bizarre.
Ancient ruins emerge from the rain. Gothic spires jut out from among the vines, broken stained glass windows piece together a distorted sun pattern in the puddles, and steam pipes emerge from the cracks in the stones, spewing out white mist with a rusty smell.
Angel suddenly tugged at his sleeve: "Master, look!"
At the top of the ancient bell tower in the center of the ruins, there was something glowing. It was impossible to see what it was from a distance.
This scene looks familiar.
X immediately remembered the book he had read last night, "The Epic of the Gods." The image before him was the illustration from that book.
This ruin is the ancient land where fairies and humans once coexisted, if the epic is true.
But... how come it looks exactly like the illustration?
Ax suddenly realized something.
I did not actually come to the ancient ruins.
Instead, it was a rainy world... simulating the ancient scenes in my mind.
As Ex walked forward, his boots touched the puddles, when he suddenly heard Angel's exclamation.
He turned around—and found the fairy's silver hair entangled by the upside-down, shimmering raindrops, as if being pulled by countless hands. The silver hair scattered into ribbons of light, drifting like a cloud of mist in the rain.
Rainwater... is alive!?
"Don't move." Ex drew his revolver and was shocked to find that it was not the revolver he was familiar with—the barrel was wrapped with glowing thorns, as if it had received some kind of blessing.
So he pulled the trigger, and the bullet drew a silver line through the rain, precisely cutting through the raindrops that were tangled in his hair.
Splash splash splash splash—
The rain returned to normal, and there were no more glistening raindrops.
Angel threw herself into his arms, her blue eyes sparkling: "Master, your gun lights up!"
Because of this discovery, she even forgot to be afraid.
"It must be a blessing from the Church of Jesus Christ."
"Hehe, that's right—" Then Samuel's voice came from afar, "You entered the Rain World through the Holy Way ritual and received some of the Holy Way fairies' blessings."
"This additional power will allow you to remain sufficiently safe in the rainy world."
"Alright, the enemy has begun to appear... Please prepare for battle, the test is about to begin."
X looked up: "What exactly is the 'Rain World'?"
Samuel did not answer.
Angel's pointed ears twitched: "The aliens are here!"
Three monsters crawled out of the ruins. They weren't the same alien species we'd met the night before; they were stitched together monsters of gears and greenery: ferns grew on their brass spines, amber liquid seeped from the meshing of their gears, and with each step they took, scattered seeds sprouted and took root on the ground.
"What kind of mutant is this!?"
Samuel's voice came from afar again: "The aliens in the 'Rain World' do not have a fixed, logical form. They are stitched together according to your thoughts."
"But overall, their strength has always been at the lowest level."
"Make good use of your teamwork and take them down."
Got it. Let's fight first and figure things out later.
"The gear on the left is leaking oil!" Angel's fingertips blossomed into ice flowers. "Master, let's hit it first!"
X's revolver rang out with a "bang." The silver bullet pierced the brass spine of the fern, and the alien suddenly let out a scream like a baby crying.
The sound made Ax's scalp tingle slightly.
Just as the second alien attacked, Angel's ice flowers exploded again.
It wasn't a scattered petal, but an entire ice flower precisely embedded in the meshing of the gears. The gears jammed instantly, emitting a piercing "click" sound.
The alien's roots suddenly grew wildly, about to entangle X's ankles—Angel rushed over and hugged his legs, ice flowers spreading along the ground, severing the entire root system.
"Master, look, they're stuck!" The fairy stood up, clapping her hands, her blue eyes full of pride. "Easier than dismantling the steam engine in the workshop!"
X's revolver clicked again. A third mutated amber gear fluid splattered onto his coat, corroding tiny holes. He suddenly remembered Samuel's warning—mutated creatures could corrupt fairies.
"Angel! Use ice flowers! Try to stay away from the aliens!"
The fairy's fingertips glowed blue once more. This time, the ice flowers, studded with spikes, flew out like tiny daggers, striking the glowing core at the center of the alien gear. The alien suddenly went limp, its brass spine crumbled with a "crash," and its roots turned to black ash.
Angel jumped up and tugged at his sleeve: "Master, Master! We won!"
"Excellent..." Samuel's voice came again from the distant rain, "And your resistance is very high."
"The door is opening... Please return."
As expected, the Holy Way Society's test was safe enough.
They never intended for humans and fairies to die.
As a result, a curtain of water rose from the nearby puddles.
The door with the silver frame reappeared.
X pulled Angel up and walked towards the door, habitually raising his hand.
The hand did not reach into the door—the water gate was slowly freezing, turning into a smooth mirror.
"this……"
Before Ax could even ask Samuel outside, the frozen "door" shattered like glass with a "crack".
The moment the debris flew up, Samuel's voice pierced the rain: "Parameter anomaly! Alien energy has surged dramatically! How is this possible—"
Angel suddenly covered her ears and squatted down: "My head hurts so much... The alien is screaming!"
X cannot hear the aliens' voices.
Clearly, that was a frequency that only fairies could hear.
"Anomaly detected in alien energy fluctuations!" Samuel's voice even crackled with static. "Sir Moore! A new exit is being deployed! You must... contact... temporarily..."
The sound stopped abruptly.
But Axe had already seen a new "door" rising beneath the distant clock tower.
In front of the "door," even more alien species crawled up from the ground.
"Okay. I knew it... an accident was bound to happen sooner or later."
