The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.

032 Magic that exists but is ignored

With a new idea in mind, Ex also became a little restless.

However, he remained patient and continued chatting with Sir Hooker.

Sir Hooker felt it was a rare opportunity to meet someone he clicked with, and he became even more hospitable. He even went to the organizers to ask for a tea set, poured a pot of his own privately treasured tea, and shared a cup with each of them.

"This tea is delicious!" Angel exclaimed in surprise after taking a sip from her teacup.

"Haha, that's for sure," Sir Hook laughed. "This is the finest Assam tea, with a rich flavor. Not many people have the chance to taste it yet."

Ex and Elena also picked up their teacups and took a sip.

However, X said he didn't care. Assam tea... I was already tired of Assam milk tea before I transmigrated. It's so-so.

Besides, my sense of taste isn't as sharp as it used to be.

Elena, however, was quite captivated by the taste. Sir Hooker even kindly gifted her a small tin of tea.

After patiently finishing their conversation, the group parted ways with Sir Hooker and then thoroughly toured the Royal Botanic Gardens.

When they came out of the Royal Botanic Garden, Irene suddenly turned around and looked at X.

The sunlight at the entrance to the botanical garden was still blinding. When Elena turned around, her long emerald hair fluttered in the wind. Angel noticed Elena's action, her blue eyes filled with confusion.

"What's wrong?" Ex asked.

"Did you... discover something?"

"Oh? You're quite perceptive. I was thinking about the silverware theft case."

This topic made Elena feel discouraged.

"Thinking about this again?" Elena sighed. "We've run out of clues."

"No," Ex shook his head, "I suddenly thought of a possibility."

He looked at Elena: "Did the Holy Order inspect those ritual silverwares before they were shipped to the port?"

"Of course," Elena nodded. "The chest was opened and inspected, but only the exterior of the silverware was checked. The silverware was protected by a barrier that couldn't be broken. However, everyone present saw what was inside the barrier with their own eyes."

Sure enough.

"That's the problem," AX smiled slightly, "What if the box doesn't contain silverware at all?"

Irene was stunned: "What do you mean?"

"Think about it, it's just like performing magic," Ex gestured. "The box fell into the river, was pulled out intact. When you opened it, all the silverware was gone. There wasn't a single sign of damage."

"so?"

"So the silverware may have been switched long ago," Ex said in a low voice. "The box contained something else. Like... something that would disappear if it got wet."

"That's impossible!"

Irene categorically denied it.

"We couldn't possibly be mistaken!"

But X did not refute it. Instead, he took out the gilded fern specimen from before and displayed it to the two fairies again.

Angel suddenly realized, "Oh! That's right, Master, I almost thought it was gold!"

Elena was stunned again. She had initially misjudged the true nature of the item as well.

"Many things can't be figured out without handling them and analyzing them," Ax explained simply. "The key suspicious points in the theft case are twofold: one is the fog, and the other is the method by which the silverware disappeared."

Exton paused for a moment: "Since the trail leading to the creation of the fog has gone cold, we can only start with the method by which the silverware disappeared. And the method... is not something that can be easily erased."

Elena's eyes widened. "So it's not silverware in the box!? Then what is it?"

"My first thought was metallic sodium. But as you know, even without considering preservation, sodium reacts violently with water. That would definitely cause the Templar Knights and fairies present to hear unusual sounds."

However, seeing the half-understanding looks on Angel and Elena's faces, X couldn't help but laugh.

These two are actually survivors of the nine-year compulsory education system.

"In short, if it's not metallic sodium, I guess it might be rock candy or a salt block. They look very similar too."

But Ax himself ruled out rock sugar.

Fairies love sweetness; if it were really rock candy, the fairies of the Holy Path Society might have smelled it long ago.

Irene clearly thought the same thing, immediately ruling out rock sugar and frowning, "Salt?"

"Salt blocks," Axe nodded. "Compacted salt blocks, shaped into silverware. We've all seen them; the silverware designs aren't complicated."

"Ridiculous!" Elena blurted out. "I can see the sheen of the salt at a glance!"

"Normally yes," X smiled slightly, "which is why I didn't think so at first."

Axe knew perfectly well that the color of salt blocks was far from being able to imitate silver.

So Ax didn't think about it in that direction at first.

Until he suddenly realized that he had fallen into a fixed mindset.

Salt blocks certainly don't look like silver. But this is a world of magic! Perhaps there's some kind of magic that makes salt blocks appear like silver?

So Ex concluded, "But what if... some kind of magic on site makes the salt block look just like silver? What if it happens to have a metallic sheen like silver?"

Angel whispered a reminder to her master, "Master, master, you forgot, there were no signs of magic at the scene. Otherwise, Sister Elena would have discovered it long ago."

Elena, too, had thought X was going to say something, but she sighed again: "Sir, you've seen the case files as well. There were no traces of magic at the scene."

AX gently patted Angel's little hand, then said to Elena, "No, you're mistaken. There just happens to be some kind of magic here... a kind of magic that everyone would naturally overlook?"

This is a blind spot.

A blind spot for everyone. But this blind spot is precisely the most fatal. It is probably also the key to the thief's method.

What!

The imposter detective, Elena, stared at X in surprise.

I've overlooked something! What have I overlooked?

Irene is very smart.

After being reminded by X, she thought for a moment and then her whole body trembled.

"Huh? What kind of magic?" Angel didn't understand.

"It's... a barrier magic," Elena murmured.

"Yes."

Axe shook his finger and recited the previous newspaper article.

"According to a report in The Times last week, all the relic exhibits in the Medieval Antiquities Museum have been fitted with silver barriers and are guarded by two Templar Knights 24 hours a day."

"And according to what you just said, there was also a barrier during the inspection, which should be the same silver barrier, right?"

The protective barrier commonly used by the Church of Jesus Christ is the "silver barrier." This is a highly transparent barrier, making it versatile and suitable for use on exhibits.

But since it's called a "silver barrier," it must be silver in color.

X had personally witnessed those barriers when he was stealing things. They were indeed a faint silver color.

Angel glanced at the dazed Elena, then at her composed master, and asked:

"Through the silver barrier... does the salt really look like silver?"

Elena snapped out of her daze: "Yeah, is it true?"

X shrugged. "How should I know? So... we need to verify."

"So..." Ex suddenly said, "Elena, do you know barrier magic?"
