The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.
035. Is Elena here to apply for the boss position?
"This place is too dilapidated."
Elena stood with her hands on her hips in the outer room of the workshop, her emerald ponytail swaying in the breeze. Her pointed ears twitched slightly, as if she were assessing something.
Angel squatted in the corner, drawing circles. She muttered, "My master is so mean! They don't treat me like a human being at all!"
"You're not even human," X replied casually. "Besides, I've been ignored by Elena too."
X remembers that Elena came to apply for a job as a shop assistant.
They shouldn't be here to apply for a boss position. Why are they now managing everything?
So Angel snorted... and then quickly forgot about it.
Then she saw Elena muttering something to herself, so she ran over to her.
"Sister Elena, what are you doing?"
"Design the setting." Elena's lips curled into a smile. "Make this the most unique mechanical workshop in London."
Ax, leaning against the door frame, raised an eyebrow.
He looked at the former Holy See fairy: "You have experience?"
"Of course," Elena said confidently. "I've been to high society and seen the best workshops. I know what a good workshop should be like."
She had already made her move before she even finished speaking.
"Angel, come help."
"oh!"
First, all the clutter had to be removed. Discarded gears, broken pipes, dusty planks—everything was cleared away. Angel helped with the moving and cleaning.
Actually, Ax did put on a show; at least the guests couldn't see how messy the back room was.
But Irene was clearly determined to completely renovate the workshop.
"Are we going to throw these away?" Angel asked, holding a pile of old parts, her blue eyes filled with reluctance.
Elena glanced at them and shook her head: "No, those can be used as decorations."
She redesigned the space. Leaving aside the inner rooms, the outer lobby has exhibition areas on the left and right, and a reception and guidance area in the center. Each area has a clear function.
"The signboard needs replacing too," Elena said, pointing to the dilapidated wooden plank at the entrance. "It's too shabby."
X nodded: "It's your decision."
Irene immediately sprang into action. She took out paints and brushes from her bag and began designing a new sign. Angel assisted her.
"What should I name her?" Elena paused her writing, pondering.
"Moor Workshop?" Ax suggested.
"Too ordinary." Elena shook her head, her pointed ears twitching. "It needs to be unique, memorable."
Her eyes suddenly lit up: "How about calling it 'Miracle Workshop'?"
Angel clapped her hands: "That sounds great!"
What's so good about it?! It's just ordinary!
Ax said he didn't understand the aesthetics of fairy names.
Ex sighed helplessly, "Whatever."
Elena began to draw. Her movements were fluid, clearly showing her experience. Angel helped her mix colors, something she was quite capable of doing herself.
A little while later, the new sign was completed.
The four large characters "Miracle Workshop" shone brightly against a background of a combination of mechanical gears and fairy wings. It was both modern and mysterious, very attractive.
Angel exclaimed in surprise, "Fairies really do have wings..."
Ex wasn't surprised. He'd seen winged fairy figurines all before at Elena's detective agency.
"Hang it up first," Elena continued to instruct.
Ax and Angel helped hang the new signboard at the entrance. The rare sunlight shone on it, making it sparkle and stand out prominently.
"Beautiful!" Angel cheered.
Elena nodded in satisfaction: "Now, organize the goods."
She reorganized and arranged the goods. Mechanical parts were placed in the left display case, and finished products in the right. Each location of the goods was carefully designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
"These should be arranged by price," Elena said, pointing to commonly used mechanical parts. "The expensive ones go on top, and the cheaper ones go on the bottom. A height of 1.2 to 1.5 meters is the 'golden height,' where customers' eyes are most likely to linger."
Angel obediently helped tidy up. Ax, watching from the side, suddenly realized that this former Holy See fairy indeed had a good business sense.
"The curtains need changing too." Irene frowned as she looked at the worn-out curtains. "They're too dark and lower our standards. We need to let the sunlight in beautifully."
"I'll do it."
Ax took the old curtains back to the inner room, and when he came out, the curtains were brand new.
Equivalent exchange is that convenient.
"When did you get ready?"
"It's a secret," Ex said with a smile, offering no further explanation.
Irene changed the curtains, the pale blue fabric fluttering in the breeze. The entire workshop instantly brightened up.
"Finally, let's add some decorations." Elena took out some small ornaments from her bag, including a mechanical bird, a fairy statue, and a few small plants.
She placed the decorations in the right spots, and the whole workshop immediately came alive. It was both professional and cozy, and very unique.
"It's finished!" Elena stood in the center, hands on her hips, looking at her work with satisfaction.
Even X had to admit that the renovated workshop was indeed much better than before. Elena was truly skilled.
"Open for business now," Elena announced. "I'll make this place a thriving business."
Ex raised an eyebrow again: "So confident?"
"Of course. I have both theoretical and practical experience."
■
Soon, the first customer arrived.
As the doorbell rang, a gentleman entered. He was dressed in a fine black tuxedo, with the Royal Botanic Gardens crest pinned to his chest.
"Welcome to Miracle Workshop," Elena greeted with a smile. "How can I help you?"
The gentleman looked around, his eyes filled with surprise: "This place... has a very special atmosphere."
"Thank you for the compliment." Elena gave an elegant bow. "We repair machinery here, sell all kinds of precision parts, and can also customize small and medium-sized machinery."
The gentleman's gaze fell on the display case, and he examined it carefully: "These gears are exquisite."
"Yes, these are all handmade." Elena picked up a gear. "Look at the craftsmanship; every line has been carefully polished. Take a closer look."
Irene then handed her a magnifying glass.
The gentleman took the gears and magnifying glass and examined them carefully: "They are indeed very exquisite. How much?"
"Five shillings," Elena said with a smile.
The gentleman frowned: "Too expensive."
"But these are all handmade," Elena explained with a smile. "Each piece is unique, embodying the mechanic's unique understanding and soul."
The gentleman hesitated for a moment, then took out his purse: "I happen to need this part, I'll take it."
Elena took the money and carefully packed the gears: "Thank you for your patronage. Welcome to come again next time."
After the gentleman left, Ax sighed, "Five shillings? The cost is only one shilling."
Elena blinked: "That's sales technique."
Angel asked curiously, "What technique?"
"Make customers feel they're getting their money's worth," Elena explained. "It's about emphasizing the product's uniqueness and craftsmanship."
"...Just who are you?"
X didn't think that former Holy See fairies should have business acumen.
"It's a secret," Elena said with a smile, offering no further explanation. She was clearly using X's words against X.
Ex shrugged.
Then, more guests came in. There were nobles, merchants, and ordinary citizens. Elena handled each of them with ease, being both professional and friendly.
"Miss, look at this wind-up bird?" Elena picked up a mechanical bird. "It can not only sing, but also fly. It would make a perfect gift."
Ex was almost stunned. "Isn't this the decoration you brought?"
Second-hand decorations suddenly become brand new items for sale... What a rip-off!
The noblewoman's eyes lit up: "It can really fly?"
"Of course." Elena wound up the bird, and it immediately flapped its wings and flew up, making a comical movement, but it successfully circled once in the air before landing in her hand.
"This is amazing!" the noblewoman exclaimed. "I want it!"
Irene smiled and packed the package: "Thank you for your patronage."
Ex couldn't help but give Elena a thumbs up.
Irene readily accepted.
As the afternoon approached, the workshop became increasingly crowded with customers. Elena was extremely busy, but she maintained her elegant smile.
"Please wait a moment, I will serve you one by one," she said gently.
Axe also had to help receive the guests.
Although not as professional as Elena, she could handle it thanks to the original owner's memories.
Angel was responsible for packaging and collecting money, and she did it meticulously.
The number of guests gradually decreased as evening approached.
Elena sat behind the reception desk, counting her earnings for the day: "I made quite a bit today."
Ax nodded: "Your sales skills are impressive. The Holy Path Church shouldn't be teaching these things, should they?"
"Of course not, what are you thinking?"
"How did Elena learn it?" Angel asked curiously.
Irene looked up, a hint of nostalgia flashing in her emerald eyes: "It was a noble lady who taught me."
"A noble lady?" Ex stroked his chin. Do the fairies of the Holy Path Society really have time to attend noble gatherings?
"Yes." Elena nodded. "She's a very good friend of mine."
Angel asked curiously, "Good friend?"
Irene smiled and nodded: "Yes."
Angel wanted to chat a little longer, but X could tell that Elena didn't want to talk about it, so he interrupted Angel and changed the subject: "By the way, you'll be sleeping on the wooden crate tonight."
Irene was taken aback: "A wooden crate?"
This is finally in Angel's area of expertise.
Angel immediately began enthusiastically introducing the products: "The wooden chests from our workshop are incredibly comfortable to sleep in!"
