The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.
042 I almost thought I went to the wrong door
The silver water gate closed behind them, turning into water droplets that merged into the ground.
X gripped Angel's hand tightly.
Upon re-entering the "Rain World," X felt a moment of disorientation.
Because... X almost thought he had entered the wrong "door".
What greets the eye is still the familiar London street scene.
A light drizzle was falling from the sky, and the sky was overcast with dark clouds, making it appear slightly gloomy. However, the sky wasn't particularly dark.
So it's daytime now... but it's raining, so it looks dim.
Ax made the first judgment.
The gas lamps lining the street flickered in the rain and mist. Their dim light shone on the wet cobblestones, reflecting a hazy glow.
A carriage drove by, its wheels splashing through the puddles. The driver's shouts faded into the rain.
The scene before him was far too normal, completely beyond X's expectations. Therefore, X wondered if Deacon Samuel had teleported him to the wrong place.
"Master, it's raining so cold." Angel shrank her neck.
But this is not rain, not rain in the conventional sense.
Ex looked up. He saw a hazy sky with tiny water droplets falling continuously.
Occasionally, tiny water droplets seem to lose weight, not coming from the clouds, but taking off from the ground.
This familiar sense of disorientation immediately made X realize the situation—he was indeed in the rain world.
"Welcome to Elena's inner world," Ex whispered to himself.
"Master, look, those buildings are so strange." Angel tugged at his sleeve at this moment.
Ax nodded. It was indeed strange.
The buildings are still the same buildings. Gothic spires, ornate decorations—but the walls are covered in vines. Some of the vines are swaying slightly.
Compared to the real world, this city has a particularly environmentally friendly feel, with exceptionally fresh air. This is due to the extremely high level of green coverage throughout the city.
Everywhere you look, there are vines.
"Elena... I see," Ex murmured.
"What?"
"This is Elena's inner world," Ex explained softly to Angel, "which is why it bears her mark. She loves vines, so there are many vines in her world."
Angel seemed to understand, but not quite. Her blue eyes curiously scanned her surroundings.
At the street corner, a newsboy was hawking the latest newspapers. His clear voice rang out crisply in the rain.
"Breaking News! Breaking News! Buckingham Palace has decided to host an international exhibition in 1851 and plans to build temporary pavilions! Get a sneak peek at the pavilion designs!"
Ex paused involuntarily.
The 1851 International Exposition? Wasn't that the Crystal Palace Exposition?
Buckingham Palace just decided to host this event... the timing is off. What year is it now?
Ax immediately waved to the newsboy.
The newsboy, with his sharp eyes, immediately ran over with a bundle of newspapers wrapped in oil paper.
"Sir, would you like to buy a newspaper?" The newsboy asked with a bright, innocent smile.
Ax felt his pockets; he had money. So he took out a few copper coins and asked, "What's the news lately?"
"There's plenty more!" the newsboy exclaimed excitedly. "The Expo design is currently soliciting opinions, and Joseph Paxton's Crystal Palace design is leading the pack! Also, I heard there was some trouble at the East End docks, but the police won't let us know the details..."
As he spoke, the newsboy carefully unwrapped the oil paper and pulled out a brand new newspaper that hadn't been wet by the rain.
Ax took the newspaper from under the eaves and opened it. His eyes immediately fell on the date.
1848 3 Month 15 Day.
The time was three years ago...
"What's wrong, Master?" Angel leaned closer to look.
"We've gone back in time," Axe said softly. "This is London three years ago."
Or rather, this is London as Elena remembers it.
In just three years, London should not have changed much.
While pondering this, Angel widened her eyes in surprise and asked, "Where would Elena be at this time?"
good question.
"Right now, she's probably still a fairy from the Holy Path Society."
This is just speculation. After all, we haven't asked Elena about her professional background yet.
"But this isn't reality!" Angel pointed out the key issue. Here, Elena's identity and profession were also uncertain.
"That makes sense... but no matter how different they are, they must have some similarities to reality. Why don't we just ask around first?"
Ex said it, and he did it.
He first bought hats for himself and Angel to shield them from the rain, then walked along the street. Rain continued to fall, pattering softly against the brim of the hats.
Ax looked around. The streets were now lined with neat rows of houses, all with a similar design—black iron railings and white window frames.
A typical middle-class residential area.
"There are people over there, let me ask first," said X.
He immediately walked over to an old woman who was watering flowers in the yard.
Actually, this scene is quite bizarre. Watering flowers in the garden on a rainy day... It just goes to show that the rainy world can sometimes defy logic.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
"Excuse me, madam. Do you know a fairy named Elena?"
"Ha, what did you say?" the old woman asked with a smile.
"Excuse me, madam! Do you know a fairy named Elena?" Ex raised his voice.
The old woman looked up again. Her eyes were cloudy, but her expression was friendly. "You mean Elena? Oh, that green-haired fairy girl?"
I actually know him! I'm so lucky.
"Yes, do you know where she lives?"
"Of course," the old woman said with a smile. "She lives in that red brick house on the corner of the next street. She passes by here every week on her way to the Church of the Holy See."
"Thank you," Ax said, bowing in gratitude.
"Master, we found it so quickly!" Angel exclaimed excitedly. "That's great, and there aren't any alien species here. I feel like Deacon Samuel must have made a mistake."
You'd better not open the champagne halfway through; I'm afraid something might happen.
X shook his head and frowned. "Too easy."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"If things go too smoothly... it feels unreal."
Before his transmigration, when playing games, X always went straight for the highest difficulty. None of those missions were easy.
Having achieved his goal so easily, X began to become suspicious. His mind was filled with thoughts like, "There's always a treacherous minister trying to harm me."
"Master, you're overthinking it. Didn't Deacon Samuel say that Irene's heart won't resist us? So we'll definitely have a smooth journey."
"You know, you're right."
Angel tilted her head: "Then..."
"Let's keep asking," Axe said.
So be suspicious. After all, you only have one life, so caution is always the best policy.
Angel naturally obeyed. So they asked several more passersby, including a baker, a grocer, and a postman.
Everyone gave the same answer. Elena lives in the red brick house on the corner.
"Master, is there any other question?" Angel asked.
"That's all. If I had to say something..." Ex stopped and looked at the red brick house in the distance. "Yeah, it's amazing that everyone knows her."
"Hey, isn't this good?"
"Not really, but Samuel said that Elena has almost no friends," AX said softly. "She shouldn't be that popular. At least, it's impossible for everyone to know her."
Angel suddenly realized: "So..."
"So this isn't a real memory," Ex said, "but rather the past that Irene herself wanted to see."
Do you want to see yourself as very popular?
Ax hesitated again.
Irene doesn't seem like the kind of person who particularly craves attention.
She likely had other reasons for wanting to be popular in the past.
